- As the tango craze swept through Europe in the 1930s, Warsaw became the Eastern European capital of this dance and bore witness to the birth of its most eclectic permutation: Yiddish tango. Polish-Israeli singer Olga Avigail Mieleszczuk, one of Europe’s premier performers and scholars of Jewish music, presents a magical, multilingual concert that includes new arrangements merging the traditional Argentinian sound with the unique style of pre-war tango, which was heavily influenced by klezmer. During this concert, Olga shares the stage with her band, Tango Attack, as well as a pair of talented tango dancers (from the group "Tango Dos") who perform during several songs. The concert also features a special guest performance by noted NYC clarinetist Michael Winograd. Sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute of New York and Momentum Artists, this event was recorded at the JCC in Manhattan.
Remarkable the talented Olga and the three piece band in perfect harmony bringing Yiddish to life and the true atmosphere of 1930’s Warsaw Jewish cabaret singers. We forget how vast Yiddish theatre and film was even in those dark days in the Ghetto. So few survived but as we tragically know so many perished but for Ms. Mieleszczuk to bring this to the stage with such verve is a true Mitzvah.

Hello
Olga, you are fantastic!!! Get away from the stand-up mic, use a mobile one and show us also how you are a great dancer. I see that in you so easily. Your body wants to follow your beautiful voice and spirit. Do it!!! You are my greatest discovery.
Amazing! Beautifull Yiddish and Polish!

It was very nice. To było Bardzo ładne. Warszawa dziś i Polesie before. Shalom

Fortunately, a combination of exile,
sympathetic people who had many countries underground hideouts,, and partisan guerillas,, US, British,
French, Canadian, Soviet, etc. armies, to liberate
some Jewish musicians, composers,
singers who survived to teach younger generations.
Also, there may be Argentine and Uruguayan tangos and milongas that were written in Spanish by
Polish Slavic and Polish Jewish
composers in those 2 countries---
the. Argentine musicians might know, since immigrants from all over W but especially E and S Europe went there. A famous mid
20th c tango singer was Roberto
Goyeneche, kniwn as El Polaco,
(The. Polish Man)--- hopefully
there are more Buenos Aires and
Mobtevideo connections.
There is also a pre tango documentary film from 1980s or 90s in US, shown on PBSTV
Der, Yiddische Gaucho Atgentine
Jewish cowboys!! (NOT a comedy!
(Though US in 1970s? hadva feature film comedy about an
E Euro rabbi who had to cross
Wild West frontier to reach San Francisco, starred Gene Wilder,
but forgot title. But, almost all is in internet, except Taiwan Chinese
impersonater of Jewish American
singer, Al Jolson, who often did black face minstrel show style,
but the Chinese impersonater even
studied Jolson enough to to include Yiddish klezner music during breaks (But did he sing in Yiddish? Euro colonialists called
SE Asian Chinese. (and Indians?
Japanese?) as the " Jews of SE Asia" (for
many reasons, including
pogroms, reform and revolution,
small and medium business, etc
Finally, Spanish Civil War Republic foreign volunteers--included, am on many others, Chinese from China and US, Polish Slavs, Polish Jews, etc. and from W and E Europe, N and S America, Caribbean, E SE S Asia. Mid E and N Africa both Jews and Arabs, etc
Hopefully, the amazing Olga A M
and co. can, if not already, perform in Argentina and Uruguay!!!
A gdzie Rabi?🤔🇵🇱
