Youkali - Kurt Weill (a Tango Habanera) | Amsterdam Sinfonietta

Weill wrote this melancholic song as part of his opera Marie Galante, which premiered in Paris during the Second World War. It wasn't as large of a success as his other opera's. Some of the memorable music has withstood the test of time. Subscribe here: bit.ly/subscribeAmsSin

In the song Youkali, we long for an imaginary place where 'love is shared' and where one can 'leave their sorrow behind'. But in the end, this place is too good to be true.
