    Today, we are looking at another cool budget handheld. This is the GB300, and it's only $12 and comes with 6000+ games! It can play GB/GBC/GBA/FC/SFC/MD, and I'm just blown away at how low these price to performance ratios are getting. The screen is not IPS, but it looks fine from straight on. The dpad is okay but could be better. The face buttons are decent, and the funny looking triggers work great. It has a nice contoured vertical design that is comfortable to hold, and it uses a rechargeable 18650 battery! It even includes AV out.. All this for $12 is pretty amazing!
    Thanks for checking out the video!
    You can order the GB300 here: www.aliexpress...

    Man, you can't seriously fault a $12 device that works as well as this. It's obviously not perfect, but it's freaking $12 bucks! I would gladly buy this over a Big Mac, lol. Thanks again for taking the time to review these super budget devices!

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  8 месяцев назад +13

      Totally! It’s crazy how fast these things are getting pumped out. To the point where we can play almost all of our old systems for the price of a Big Mac. Lol. Some people may complain about eWaste but it’s sorta like recycling/repurposing because I think most of this stuff is made from old cell phone chip overstock. Cow farts are probably doing more damage to the planet than emulation handhelds ever will.. 🤭

    To those who are making disrespectful comments like “what’s with the Parkinson’s” because my hands get shaky at times.. I’m not going to bother with more of an explanation than this. You ask some bullshit… you go poof. Gone forever. For those who actually have a heart. PTSD is a real thing and shouldn’t be made light of.

    Screw the haters, my man. I just subscribed.
    Preserving classic games has become very important to me because I don't trust the megacorps to do right by them. I will reward them for when they do well; I bought Metroid Prime: Remastered even though I setup PrimeHack on my Steam Deck, and I'll buy Mario RPG because wow, that's a great remake, too!
    But it's become apparent that for me to feel comfortable with my own game library, I have to *own* my library and be able to reliably play the regardless of the hardware I might have in the future. Hence, my interest in emulation.
    The handheld emulator space is a fascinating one and while I swear by my Anbernic RG35XX and its Plus sequel, I'm really glad to see that ultra budget handhelds like this are getting attention and people like you are taking what folks like Russ at RetroGameCorps have been doing for the more expensive handhelds and applying the same scrutiny to the ultra budget category.
    Well done. You earned my Like and Subscribe.

    The Sega Nomad (portable Genesis) was $180-$200 at launch in 1995. The NEC TurboExpress (portable TurboGrafx-16 AKA PC Engine) was well over $200 when new in the late '80s-early '90s. And that's just for the handhelds themselves, the games cost extra. A lot extra. As a result I never owned either. The fact that this unit is a Nomad and TurboExpress combined with all the games would've blown little me's mind back in the day. And that's not even getting into all the Nintendo systems on offer, some of which hadn't even been invented yet in the mid '90s.
    Thanks to the constant march of inflation $12 today is the equivalent of like $5 then. Maybe less, I don't know. This has a bigger, better screen than pretty much any handheld on offer at the time, all the games, a rechargeable lithium battery instead of being powered by a crummy Ni-Cad or a handful of disposable AAs, etc. It's crazy how far we've come in 30 years.
    For what it's worth; I like cheapo tech coverage in general. There's an old joke about engineering that says, "Anyone can make a bridge that'll stand up, only engineers can make a cheap bridge that'll stand up" or something to that effect. Anyone can make a fancy handheld that'll play everything. It's not hard and I'm kind of over things like the Deck and Ally. But to make a $12 handheld that is, presumably, profitable and can play a lot of things well takes talent and I find that sort of thing fascinating. It's the same thing with economy cars vs. supercars. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to own a new Porsche 911 in real life; but, a Mitsubishi Mirage is honestly the more interesting vehicle. Anyone can make a world class car on a Porsche budget; but, Mitsubishi spent about $3 developing the Mirage and they sell it for $12k. It has no business being as good as it is.

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  8 месяцев назад +3

      It’s tough today at this early stage. I love the SNES controller design so that’s a huge plus and it the SF2000 has a better screen. I’d probably go with that one, but I might change my mind in the future. If I can do the tape fix to the dpad and cfw comes out for this it’s going in my pocket everywhere. Super small and comfortable. I really like it.

    • @OGTechNick

      Yep. You know the process. I haven't done it on this one yet. I use kapton tape because it is super thin and less slippery but electrical tape works too. Good advice for those who are dealing with the false inputs

    Less than a hamburger! It's cool but I don't like the idea of supercharged disposable hardware. Sounds terrible for the environment... other than that, it looks fine but the screen seems inferior to SF2000's. It could be just the reflection though.

    For 12 bucks that's kinda impressive, I mean I guess SNES and it's specialty chips are a bit much for it but otherwise it's a fair little toy. You could probably fix that dpad thing with a bit of electrical tape of the inner edges of the contacts or something.

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  8 месяцев назад +1

      I agree. It holds up pretty well, and yeah, a little kapton or electrical tape should be able to mitigate the dpad issue. I did that to my Switch Pro Controller and my 35XX. Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate it!

Hoping for a CFW for this soon, like MinUI. Also if you load Master System roms onto the SD card it'll play them

    Este portátil é muito honesto pelo seu preço. Funciona muita coisa perfeitamente de snes e GBA, os mais criticados.
    Recomendo ir testando um a um e aperta o X para colocar o jogo que roda perfeito em favoritos.
    Jogos como Rock in Roll Racing rodam perfeito, só para terem uma ideia.
    Isto tudo original, ele melhora ainda se instalarem o multicore.
    Roda master system também, só criar a pasta ROMs.

    yeah reddit has been iffy with everything below their standard so i minimized how much i use it. This could be nice competition to the sf2000s monopoly on decent handhelds for under a 20€, Have you tried the custom software for the sf2000? And i wouldn't be to surprised if the software could work on this machine.

      @OGTechNick  5 месяцев назад

      Hey man. You just caught me scrolling through my comments at 2:45am. I'd have to say I think SF2000 is better. It has a better build quality and better screen. Shoulder buttons are super loud and clicky, though.

  • @Qinti101
    @Qinti101 7 месяцев назад

    I was looking at the store links, and noticed the trigger buttons are dependant on that "floating on a plastic piece" mechanism, if you can call it such, so when it breaks, the trigger button will just fall off? Looks like bad design. Can you confirm?

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  7 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure which part you're referring to in regards to breaking. The microswitch, or the plastic buttons? (shoulder buttons are just part of the shell cut out), so if it does break, it would probably be better to just replace than try to repair. The microswitches are easily replaceable if you can solder and they're only a few cents, but it's really just a budget device and a pretty good one for the price. I'd still suggest the SF2000 over this because it's more solid, has a better screen, and already has cfw. It's only like $2 more.

    • @Qinti101

      I think the added roms need to be unzipped and just have their names changed to match the extension of the roms that the console does recognize. Did you change/rename the .gb extension to .zgb and that didn’t work? Or did you just try the .gb file and the .zip file without unzipping? If so, unzip the .gb file and rename it .zbg or whatever the working GameBoy roms suffix/extension is named as.
