Jenn, you showed me more about Doodly in 20 minutes than the same time spent trawling their site. Exactly the in depth review I wanted.
Hilariously, at the exact point your play of the final product finished, RUclips started playing the Doodly ad and it flowed in seemlessly. I was kinda confused till I realised the ad had stitched in.
If my planned video project is half as good as this I'll be deliriously happy.

Hi Jenn! Thankee for this VERY useful tutorial.
I'm the marketer and have some questions about this topic:
    1. For what video-formats (I mean guides, demonstrations etc.) Doodly will be handy most of all?
    2. Could I mix up an animated video with real video (while editing process)? For instance, video on my phone + Doodly animation.
    3. Maybe, we should pay attention to other services, which could be more cheaper and convenient? What could you advice?

I really enjoyed your video. It was good to see Doodly from the viewpoint of a video production professional.
I haven't looked at Doodky since I bought it in their prelaunch promotion. I think that might have been in 2016? I never did much with it. After I bought Doodly I discovered Explaindio and loved one feature of Explaindio that Diidky didnt offer.
That feature was to be able to take an image and do it as a line art drawing and then fade in the color image to replace the line art. They went ine step further however. You could do the same thing with a video.
In Explaindio you also had the ability to insert videos into scenes. The ability to add a transition from doing a line drawing if the first frame into the video starting to play made me choose Explaindio over Doodley.
I have not needed the whiteboard software in a while but I am starting a project where i believe it will be a useful tool.
I would like to hear what you think about Explaindio and if there are any other tools that are worth checking out.

Your honesty and candor reviewing video software is a breath of fresh air in a “web” of confusion. Your presence and voice is genuine. As a teacher of video production, your reviews allow me more time with students and less time wading through the ever changing market available for video software.

You can time it to the voice over audio if you just observe the waveform while it's playing. Make a note of the time where the audio portion stops, silence shows as a valley in the waveform, then adjust your scene accordingly (move the end point in this case).

Thank you for reviewing this software, although I think I would have been less frustrated and actually watched your video entirely if you had run an example of the finished video first to build engagement and interest, then broke down your process, these explainer videos work much better if peek your audience's interest or they have a finished image in mind to share your interest and understanding of the steps you are expanding on from the start rather than holding their attention hostage for the climax in the end with the video reveal. This likely serves those who own the software well because you do go into great detail. The truth is I was hoping this would be a good introduction for my daughter, who has been all over me to download Vyond for her, and I have been trying to find her something a little more affordable I thought your video might be a little more influencing for her than it was, even still it is a great video I am sure for those who do own the software and are aware of what the finished videos look like. Thank you again!

    Great video!!!
It really gave me what I needed to make an informed purchasing decision on the product; you saved me a bunch of time and effort.
I love that you don't up-talk or exhibit any other kinds of annoying speech patterns that seem so prevalent these days, especially on RUclips. Your style is a breath of fresh air, and I truly appreciate it. Usually I cant get through videos of this nature in their entirety because the speech cadence of the presenter is like nails on a chalk board to me. Your very professional and well spoken, articulating things clearly.
That all being said, I wondered about the audio timeline issues and if perhaps using an audio editor like Audacity to chop up the voice-over would help make timeline editing any easier.

I put together my first Doodly video. I think you did a good job reviewing it. It's not as robust as I had hoped it would be. It's good for producing a basic video but I wish it had more features. I had to figure out a lot of work arounds to get some simple affects like adding color to an image. What I like best about it is that it allows you to import your own images and add the drawing path (takes a long time but worth the outcome). I hope they keep adding more features and improving it.

Thanks for the review. Honest and informative. Questions: 1) Is it better to first choose the music to inform the tone and pace of the voiceover? 2) I doubt that Doodly has enough volume and quality of artwork to suite my taste. Who does better in that regard?

    • @JennJager
      @JennJager  4 года назад

Good question. Whenever I hire narrators, I give them direction about the kind of read I'm looking for- happy, serious, whatever. A good VO person is like an actor. THEN I pick the music. I subscribe to Audioblocks (now called Storyblocks) which has thousands of tracks.

@6:20 , yes the need to "perfect" our audio first is a holdup at the desk. I figure on being ready to create a ScreenCast alongside my video so as to have something to edit the progression of the audio somewhat while being able to add/subtract further elements.

I was thinking the same thing as a Premier Pro and Davinci Resolve user...why take ages learning a new software? However I really wanted the hand writing animation in my videos so decided to give doodly a shot and spend a day watching doodly videos and practicing it. It is so much easier to learn everything you need to know in one day unlike video editing software that takes forever! Now I use doodly to make a base video from my narration...then put that video into davinci resolve and add stuff in to enhance it. It is so good!

Hi Jenn, thank you so much for taking your time to do such a thorough/great review of Doodly! We try very hard to listen to fellow Doodlers, as well as other online reviews, to help us find what we're missing and how to always improve. (Video explaining things below: ruclips.net/video/-6rGiOnmsTQ/видео.html )
We typically release a software update once every 1-3 weeks, depending on how extensive the new features are. That said, we've released quite a lot of updates since you left your initial review about 8 months ago, and if you don't mind, I'd like to list some of the things you mentioned in your video that Doodly couldn't do at the time and/or were annoying for you, but I'm happy to say, can now do :-) Thanks again for your Doodly review (and other reviews you do on RUclips. They're great), and for showing everyone, some of what Doodly can do. It truly means a lot!
Here is the video that I created to explain everything below:
    ruclips.net/video/-6rGiOnmsTQ/видео.html
    1. 3:20 out-dated UI. We've added several new things to the UI based on Doodler feedback. Some of which are:
    - preview video button
    - doodly rainbow option for full color
    - pan and zoom in timeline
    2. 8:40
    - Cool new cartoon hands added
    3. 11:20
    - New video preview window and how you can use that to match up the audio within the video.
    4. 19:30
    - Limited images for different kinds of businesses. Noticed that you are running the standard version of Doodly, which does come with the lowest number of stock images (you're able to import your own images if you'd like). The Enterprise version comes with close to 20x the number of images, and 7x the number of audios. We're also releasing the Doodly Marketplace this week, which will start with an additional 14,000+ images, all organized into specific niche bundles (in both black and white and color), so you can grab what you want, in an ale cart format. And we'll be adding more niche bundles every month.

Hi Doodly, I just picked up your software and have a comment. I apologize if I missed this but there isn't a way to "favorite" a character, prop, or sound? That makes it kind of tedious for multiple projects when trying to find things. Also, once you place the prop, character, etc.. on the screen there is no information about what was used (ie, prop name). Again, I'm new so if i missed this please let me know where I can accomplish these things. Thanks!

    • @doodlyofficial6033
      @doodlyofficial6033 5 лет назад +1

@@jeremyg4164 Hey, welcome to the family :-) I don't want to "take over" Jenn's youtube video (or make this seem like some sort of ad or something), but I'll answer this one and then if you (or others) have questions, it's probably best to ask Jenn or, better yet, email support@doodly.com. Our team always tries to be really fast at responding to support ticket questions. Ok, answers below:
      1. We don't have a "favoriting" option, per say, but I'd recommend just pulling out notepad or something and making note of the character's name. Then you can do a search for that character's name the next time you want to use him/her.
      2. If you used an image in a previous video, but forget what image it was, you can click on the image in your video and go into the settings (click the gear icon) for the image and you'll see the image title/name in the top bar. Then you can perform a search for that image, in order to find and use it again. You can also just right-click and select "copy" and then paste it into your new video. That's super fast and easy.
      3. If there's a feature we don't have, please go to our feature requests center here: www.doodly.com/requests and either vote for the features you like, and/or add your requests there. This is how we prioritize which things to add next.
      4. And be sure to join the Doodly FB group (the link to that was included in the "welcome email") to ask specific questions etc. We have over 46,000 members in the group at the time of this post. Everyone is super helpful there. Lots of great tips shared. I laugh sometimes because Doodlers are finding ways to use Doodly that I could have never thought of myself.
      5. You mentioned you were new to Doodly, so definitely take a few minutes and go through the tutorial videos here: www.doodly.com/tutorials/ They will help you a lot.
Anyway, thanks again and have a great day!

I like the motion blur in the hand as it draws across the screen and the options for changing the background from white to chalkboard. I'm looking for something that I can create these kinds of animations quickly and add them to Priemere or After Effects. The doodle effect would cool for custom lower thirds. Is there another product you would recommend?

Thank you for the reality check. What DO you get when you pay the $67 one time fee? How many graphics are in their library? How much are the additional graphic packs? How many are in those? What types of graphic packs do they have? I'm kinda interested in ones related to doctor/clinic/therapist/insurance/money. How many people with disabilities are represented? Are races adequately represented? So curious about this software!

hi J ! greatful for your videos...they really help a lot..... question.....can you make a video on how much should a producer/creator charge for whiteboard...blackboard..glassboard....chalkboard....and also toonly videos etc in generals?

TBH, I hate to do that because there are so many variables when it comes to pricing. Experience, geographic location, the length of the final deliverable etc. If I gave prices I feel like I might be inadvertently setting expectations that could limit someone's income. You might want to start by deciding what your hourly rate is worth to you, and then see how long it takes you to make a minute of finished video. The number of hours it takes x the number of minutes per finished video could determine your rate. Thanks for watching :)

I have version 2.31 and it has the pan feature. I did upgrade from the $67 version and gain lots of stock photos.. If you click the Plus logo in the timeline it offers a start and finish pan fx appears in the timeline and you can set duration also. Very similar to videoscribe I imagine.

I would agree creating a video in 60 seconds is misleading as you have to sync your audio with the images and text which isn't as easy as it could be. Having said that, I have managed to create three Doodly videos in a day in the space of a couple of hours by combining it with other software like Speechelo that uses A.I. voices for the voiceovers. But then again that might not suit everyone. Like a lot of software programs you have to find a balance between the vision in your head and the time and resources you have available to bring your vision into reality. As the saying goes, "Perfection is the enemy of the good."

Hi Jenn. I want to create a video tutorial for explaining an engineering subject and for which I am not sure which software (Doodly or Videoscribe) is more effective. I want to create my own objects which would not be there in the standard library of either of them. Which software support that better.

Hey Jenn, when you are previewing the scenes the animations are kind of choppy and don't really flow. However, after you exported I noticed it wasn't like that anymore. Is the preview supposed to be lower quality?

    • @JennJager
      @JennJager  5 лет назад

Hi, I think it was because the software was cloud based, but once I exported, the video file lived in my computer so the playback was better. That’s the challenge with cloud based platforms overall- working with them is a little slow.

i just started playing with this platform yesterday. I picked up some tips from you. I was wondering if you could import your own images. I think you could probably use a program like Blender to create some of the characters or affinity photos which is cheaper than photoshop.
