I’ve read somewhere this species don’t like root pruning, even a slight touch can kill them. I tried twice to turn it into bonsai. Both plants died as I touched the root system 😔
Tried one a few years ago, didn't like the transplant and lost her, not advisable to shape and root cut in one sitting, Plan to start a few Manuka bonsai from seedlings and pot up slowly over the years rather than a drastic downsize and leave the roots alone as much as possible.
Hey! 🙂 I just bought one of this species. It’s in as big container as yours was. But it’s actually two trees in one container. Is there any way to separate them? If the roots can’t be even touched, then I don’t know how to separate them. 🤔
@@bonsaihigh Thank you!🙂 I was thinking on the same, so I will only keep the better one, and sacrifice the other. And as I know I should not bare root it, just cut the rootball as you did on the video, right? 🙂
@@LaszloBToth-rb8qg yes, after that try not to keep it in a sunny area. For a week or two, watch the humidity level, this plant can be really delicate sometimes depending on the region
@@bonsaihigh thank you for the advice 🙂 it will be in full bloom these days, I wait that. Then after that I’m gonna make the transplant and styling, and put it on a rather shaded place with a humidifier tray.
I have the deep red variety absolutely beautiful when it goes into bloom. I love the pink flowers thou.
I wish I could see what it looks like now, I ended up selling it.

Maori and NZers call this tree a "Manuka".
Hows this tree 1 yr on?
It was sold a few months ago. But with good care I’m sure it’s fine.
I was wondering the same thing. Kia ora

It’s hard at that point, i would recommend making a twin trunk or cutting of the one that you don’t like.

How’s it doing? Is there an update on this tree? I found one at my local nursery and bought one!
Not too sure, I sold it some time ago.
I hope yours grows well ! Before working on it, try to keep it alive in its new home for at least 2 weeks
