- The LEGO Speed Champions 76917 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 was revealed a month ago, I shared my detailed preview about it back then with a presentation of Chris Stamp, the lead designer of Speed Champions. Now here's the real deal, and I can show you all the tricky building details of this amazing set!

Those SC designers deserve some recognition. It's just amazing to see how much work goes in these small models. The building techniques are mad for these little builds.

Wow. As always, the techniques in these 8-wide Speed Champions are unmatched in any other LEGO theme. Can't wait to pick this up!
I have to disagree. Although there are some nice techniques used for the 8-wide SC sets, many Creator Expert or Icons sets use far more advanced techniques. E.g. to get the angles for the 10497 Galaxy Explorer right with only the smallest gaps is much trickier to design than the pretty much straightforwards snot connections for the SC cars. Usually the angled parts of the SC sets are only secured at one point. That is so much easier. But don't get me wrong: The 8-wide SC sets are still a joy to build.
They're definitely way better than the 6-wide ones.
I just collected all the Speed Champions sets. Should I build oldest to newest? Or newest to oldest?

Speed champions has been constantly evolving, providing great builds and cars that years ago you would never have thought would be available outside of the extremely expensive technic sets. At the end of the day, theres a charm in lego cars trying to look as close to the real one as possible and not a lego city 1 seater, its quirky and unique with lots of potential for mods. If you want hyper realistic model cars then maybe you should buy die-casts instead of Lego.
I love the transparent plates to represent the underglow.
For attaching stickers I usually use X type locking Tweezers. When squeezed, the tweezers open and when released, the tweezers close. Very useful if something has to be held for a long time with tweezers. These types of tweezers are often for sale in hardware stores.
I use toothpicks
I'm partial to ifixit's halberd spudger. Really thin blade, lets me position the sticker with precision.
I use normal tweezer but its like a sharp one kinda like 2 toothpicks
Speed Champions sets on an absolute roll the past year. 2023 looking equally epic.

I like that we're seeing movie cars in the Speed Champions theme. There are so many great, and iconic, movie and TV cars to choose from, without having to do a whole franchise of kits. I'm really looking forward to seeing which cars are done next.

3:59 - YES! I knew I wasn't the only one who did that technique, using the big sheet to remove the stickers for corrections!
As for the set itself, another super impressive set and even more crazy techniques to build it. These sets always look so simple from the surface but deceptively complex to build (for the casual buyers especially). They're pretty much masterclass level in design, and yet are still relatively affordable. Speaking of which, I know the designer said he couldn't fit a light brick in but it's really not needed, and we don't need Lego to have an excuse to bump the price up even further! Looking forward to what's next; especially the supposedly upcoming McLaren double pack which is claimed to include a version of the legendary McLaren F1....
The car looks amazing from a distance sitting on the table like that. This is a buy for me.
I think it could have looked better, but it´s nice they left some studs visible, like we used to do in our own cars as little :3

This will be my second Speed Champions car after the Lotus Evija, which was a ton of fun to build. Can't wait till i got my hands on this one!
Nice video as always. I appreciated that sticker trick using the edge of the sheet. I will have to try that next build.
I kind of liked the smooth look when you added that extra tile to the hood. I may have to add some tiles to see which I prefer.
Do you happen to know what those tile pieces are called? I want to look for them so that I can do this to mine.

Would love to see other iconic cars in speed champions line up from the big or small screen. Kitt, General Lee, A Team van, Eleanor, Smoky n the bandit, other fnf cars, bond cars etc....

I was looking for a review video as i was concidering buying it. But when i saw the stickers i was out. The blue stripes is what makes the nissan a 2f2f car 😅

I really like the build, but i think that compared to another speed champion set like the Koenisseg, it's 1 stud too long, the end like hood and roof could have been thought a bit more but the rear of the car as for every other speed champion set is soo good looking, and the interior too

sucks that they went with alot more stickers I was so happy with the dodge charger's goal to minimize stickers
There's a slight difference between the look of the two original cars, the Charger is fully black, doesn't really need many stickers :)

Be nice to see more real speed championship. Like NASCAR AND NHRA. They did a blue Chevy Camaro car number 5 or 8. They did a nice Top Fuel car from NHRA which was part of the Moper set. I do like all the sets, they are really cool
Its a nice set but I do prefer the RollingBricks R34, only downside of that is the lack of livery.

I just watched (again) a video of the Mercedes 300 SLR (Uhlenhaut Coupe). That would also be a nice model! Unfortunately quite round and difficult to build with Lego, but they did a good job of the Aston Martin DB5! Greetings, Martin from Dresden 🙋🏻♂️

Picked up 1 today... You can tell they put a lot of effort into these cars - shame about the number of stickers over printed pieces... I'm still hoping for a James Bond lotus or something from the 80s TV shows I grew up watching 👍🏻

Edit: if you use an X-acto knife, it is infinitely easier to apply the stickers, especially if you're really ham-fisted like me

I will say this about the Hot Wheels Mega sets, they PRINT all their graphics on bricks. This is going to be a pain to apply all those stickers. But well worth the effort I am certain. :D
Apologies if this is a bit obvious, but how does one attach the bumper that's connected by the 2 yellow snap bricks? I've done all the steps according to the building instructions but for some reason the yellow snap bricks just won't click on/stick to the 2 brown shaft bricks on the main body no matter how much force I try.

Hi i have a problem with mine skyline.The right front wheel(if you look from the back of the car) doesn't spin while every other spinns and it seems to wiggle a bit to that side. But if i push it to the ground a bit e everything works fine.Can someone help me?

The set came out on January 1st. The reason you can't find it is that it tends to be sold out...... I had to buy it online
I really do hope we get the Supra Mark 4 they can do it if they can do the R34 we can get a mark for Supra because we have the answer 35 and GTR and we have the mark 5 and Supra I did hear someone saying that they can't do that because they've already used a car from that brand which is a total lie because this car just proves that we can do it yes I understand they still have to get their hands on the licensing but still

Honestly this feels like a lot of steps back for Speed Champions, yes I know its lego but the design feels kinda lazy compared with other modern builds but well thats only my opinion, lets hope they keep improving
You are not the only one who feel this way! In my opinion the new Ferrari and the new McLaren F1 LM are pushing the series forward but this one is a dissapointment because of the appearance. I do not criticize the building technique because it is cool but the final look is just off. If I put the new very cool looking supercars next to this one, the Skyline just looks lame next to them sadly. Probably they tried their best but this car type just not fits the Speed Champion lineup well just as the Supra which was a shame too. For example Jesse’s Jetta would be a better choice because of the car shape for this lineup.

Cool Review. I don’t like the grey slopes in backside of the GT-R. Side by side the Dodge is too small. That makes no sense. But for the fans of FF franchise a nobrainer. Keep up the good work.
