He's a MUSICIAN just like the 1000's of other professionals I've known in my long life. Have you EVER, once, seen a bow go wrong in any professional orchestra? And very few amateurs. Musicians make "human beings" look like chimpanzees! (Incidentally he's not even looking at the score) . As a student I used to busk in London's West End arcades: I soon had this concerto, plus the E major, plus all 6 solo sonatas from memory, and I'm far from being the world's greatest violinist. I started in July 1954: in November the same year I bought my first house with the proceeds. It's only Bach, for heaven's sake, not Elgar! Technically kid's stuff. (MUSICALLY? That's different of course!).

There is an aspect of the music of Bach that always intrigues me. He keeps the music interesting and exciting. When you listen and think that now you have captured the idea and know what "the continuation" will be, the music always evades you, but not in a disappointing way, but in a surprising and exciting way, always keeping your interest.

Maurice, thank you for this amazing video. I have been working on this piece for 3 years now. Listening and loving the piece for over twenty years. Until now I have watched performances of it and tried watching the same five to ten second segment at a time to work out the best fingering and shifts. So I’m sure you can understand how grateful I am for your video format. Your playing is gorgeous and tomorrow I will be at my stand with pencil in hand, and hopefully one day I can play as you have here! Thank you again, especially for making this amateur violinists dream of playing this piece, a little bit closer!

Being able to play along with you and the piano, and then with the piano only in different tempi, starting with a very slow tempo first, is incredibly helpful for my pupils. Plus, they really enjoy it and it makes their practice a lot more fun. Your hard work is much appreciated. Vielen Dank und viele Grüße aus London.

Absolutely beautiful. My son is learning this on the marimba for an upcoming competition and your version is perfection. It's clean and crisp and so much more enchanting when played without an orchestra. He plays along with you and makes notes on his sheet music. I have to admit, I'm obsessed and listening during workouts, cleaning the house, driving, and any other chance I get. If your ears are burning, it's me telling Alexa to play it again.

I played this first movement on marimba for my college percussion audition. And I was accepted! Can you imagine writing a piece of music in 1730 and having thousands of people still playing it daily almost 300 years later? Amazing. This would have been a great practice tool but we are all a product of our time. Kids these days have no idea how amazing having access to this at the touch of a button is! It's such a fun piece. Now, 35 years later, I'm an unemployed musician! 😂

Dear Sir, would you be willing to record yourself playing this piece much slower as you did with the piece called Handel Bouree which you took from 148 to 66 (a huge drop, but very helpful), whereas this piece has only been dropped down in tempo 20 beats I think....so I am struggling at this speed to play along. I am overjoyed at finding you channel - thank you so much for all that you have done for us!
