    Everybody whining about the manual transmission, yet NOBODY was buying them. Subaru says less than 5% of sales were manual. If you wanted one you would have bought one while they were built for the last decade. Quit pretending. The only manuals that sell are in sport(y) vehicles that enthusiasts drive. Nobody wants an econobox with a manual anymore. You want a manual and more power... Get the wrx. Dont try to pretend the impreza is anything more than a commuter appliance.

    I vote Impreza RS. I really wish it was an automatic, but as a fun commuter I can live with the CVT. I like that it’s non-turbo. I really wish car makers could balance between power and mileage. I don’t need class leading for either, but I do need it to be in the game. The RS works for me.

    I like the Impreza's clean lines, compared to the excessive cladding on the Crosstrek. But will reviewers ever stop calling CVT shifts "simulated"? When using the paddle shifters, you're shifting between actual, physical, preset transmission ratios, regardless of whether there are small, internal gears or the two large shift drums.

    • @Just1nt1me
      @Just1nt1me Год назад +5

      So you understand the point of the word "simulated"? They say this because there is no "gear ratio" in a CVT. Sure, they are physically preset ratios, but it doesn't make them any less simulated lol

    • @zacharyreynolds4303
      @zacharyreynolds4303 Год назад

      It's not called that because it's simulating a change in ratio. It's called that because it's simulating the thump, the hard feeling of going instantly from one gear to another. Many customers when the CVT came out complained that they couldn't "feel it shift gears" when driving in normal use, so ever since then manufacturers have been trying to tweak that feeling to simulate a geared automatic, instead of smoothly revving up and down from one ratio. Even though that's not how CVTs work, and they're just adding extra steps to make idiot consumers happy. So yes, it's the simulation of an Automatic transmission.

    I find it crazy how many terrible choices Subaru tends to mask with catch phrases like "take rates" and consumer "demand changes". No on wanted a manual impreza cuz they saddled the smallest engine to a 5 speed, while honda has making six speeds in its honda fit since like 2012, and that's a smaller engine. Making something that no one wants and then saying that no wants it cuz they made it terribly. With that said enthusiast's are hard to make happy, so let me give subaru an obtainable goal. I think they should bring back the impreza sedan, one engine only the 2.5, one trim only being the RS trim, since they don't need all the other trims, and have it available with the CVT AND the 6 speed from the WRX, dual exhaust, even if that doesn't change the hp output, and the tech package that come swoth the ears goodies. Sedans are the new coupes, you have to make them more special in order for them to sell, and I think a sub 30k manual awd sedan with 180hp is a very old school but enticing option for many.

    Actually no.... _Real_ compact cars took a hit when every car-maker decided to turn them into mid-size cars to increase room on the inside. Then decided to play pretend that these new versions of their *actual* compact models were "Compacts." Let me grab my Polish gas-mask, toss on a new filter, before the stench from that collective pile travels up into my nose. And quite frankly, shame on all the major reviewers for drinking the Kool-Aide concerning this nonsense. Couple of months back, sports sedan was in the shop. Needed to rent a vehicle. Didn't care what I got. Ended up with a Nissan Sentra SV (previous gen. model). Wasn't perfect. But I liked the size, surprising bit of power under the hood. Info-tainment system intuitive and properly designed. Yeah... Nissan stretched it out to the size of an older Altima, in its current form.
    If I wanted a mid-size sedan, I'd go and buy a mid-size sedan. I want a compact with some real power. My choices are now horribly limited.

    They got everything right except the engine. RS should have gotten 2.0 turbo making at least 200hp with 200ftlb, and leave it to the enthusiasts to tune it. The 2.5 is just bigger bored but less reliable cousin of the 2.0. things being expensive as they are, Subaru should just let the people have the cake for a little more.

So now, a decade later, there’s this. Call it a step in the right direction but still a work in progress. All wheel drive makes this a great choice in some regions but otherwise I think the other cars mentioned as competition would be preferred by most drivers.

    No embedded navigation is a deal breaker for me. I'm not going to spend another $3,000 for the limited model in order to get the embedded nav. I think Subaru continues to not realize this is a deal breaker for very many potential buyers. It's looks like I will have to check out the K5 AWD, which has a 10.25 screen with KIA's excellent embedded NAV STANDARD.

    • @boost331
      @boost331 Год назад +16

      Nobody likes built in nav. It is always out of date and never as accurate as apple\google maps. Thats for old farts that don't understand technology. You dont "need" cell service for them to work either. You can download maps for offline use on your phone and never have to worry about a data connection.

      I'm 70 years old "Old Fart." I have just a $35.00 monthly fee with Boost Mobile. If I begin to use my phone for Nav, regardless which company I'm using, what would my monthly bill jump to using all that data for navigation?

    • @boost331

      @@CombatVeteranUSNAVY That is possible if it is not an unlimited data plan. But with built in nav you often lose valuable features. Traffic updates, faster routes, etc. The way the world is building up leaves things ever changing. Built in units rarely if ever get updated.

      @@Just1nt1me Honestly, I didn't know the Google maps for example, are updated frequently. My embedded nav in my KIA Forte GT, and my previous cars, are updated 2X a year. I've been using embedded nav in my cars for since 2018, and they are very accurate, During the last 5 years there have been a few minor wrong way directions. Such as, make a right turn, when I should have made a left turn, but I usually realize it and make the correction. It's my personal choice to not use my phone. Thanks to you, I'm going to use my phone to see how I like it. I believe my car has wireless for my IPHONE, I will have to check that out. If I like it, then I very well may consider the new Impreza. Seriously though, sorry for the rudeness. Rough Monday morning so far.
      I highly recommend either Android Auto or Apple Carplay integration, either wired or wireless. It makes navigating anywhere so easy. And it helps you to just leave your phone plugged in and use your car's interface for navigation instead, if that's what you're worried about.
