      @majortomswife  4 года назад

      I dont have an answer for this, honestly.. not without some research. If I were you, I would call the pet store, or a koi/pond supplier for advice. It may have something to do with water quality, or oxygen levels. Do you have a bubbler? Have you treated the water appropriately for your fish? - thats where I would start. Educate yourself about goldfish care! ♡ good luck with your fish baby!

    • @majortomswife
      @majortomswife  9 лет назад +2

      Mark Goldfishna
      yes I certainly did get an algae film on the glass.. it is a sign of health within the system.
      my water changes increased as the fish grew, but always I made the change once a week (until they got too big and the water needed to be changed every 5 days) During the water change, I would use a rubber squeegee to clean the glass.. and rub away any buildup with my fingertips that the squeegee missed.
      The fish have since gone to live in a pond, but I did enjoy caring for them.
      I will join this group =] thankyou. Perhaps I can pass some knowledge on.
      Not enough people are educated about how to care for their fish. I encountered my own set of unique problems, as everyone does.

I can't wait until they get this big though. I think it's supposed to be 10 gallons per goldfish right? Meaning I have to upgrade them to at least a 36 gallon tank. Anyways, nice video.

      I would imagine they have a similar lifespan... Google likely knows better than me, but if I recall, 10 years is about average. And it seems like the half way mark is approximately full grown.

    • @zezekingyo2374
      @zezekingyo2374 6 лет назад

      majortomswife true. And do you know how comets are created in the US? The old breeders crossing the ryukin and the prussian carp to create a single, long tailed goldfish. A popular myth states the comet is a mutation from a common goldfish.

  • @shai3029
    @shai3029 8 лет назад +2

    I recently got a small comet goldfish and I really would like for it to grow to a nice size. like the ones in this video. Does anyone have tips on how I can make this happen? it is currently about 1 inch and is in a 3 gallon tank. I know it will need a larger tank, but my mom is only allowing me to upgrade as it grows, because larger tanks are expensive.

    • @elysemcclure148
      @elysemcclure148 7 лет назад +1

      Good food and great water condition will allow it to grow bigger, but It probably won't get too much larger in a 3 gallon. It most likely wouldn't live longer than a year or two either. Ultimately, it will probably need a 40 gallon tank at least, just because they get so long it'll be hard for it to turn around in anything smaller. You can get a tank less expensively through sites like craigslist. You will also find a larger tank easier to maintain because you don't have to change the water as often.

    • @shai3029
      @shai3029 7 лет назад

      aw man. so ultimately would it just be better for my fish for me to just release it in a nearby lake or something? because I want it to live a good life, but I'm soon going to college and it wouldn't be that reasonable to my mother to keep a 20+ gallon tank for one small goldfish

    • @ivanvillanueva2670
      @ivanvillanueva2670 7 лет назад +1

      Shainya Frazier
      You should NEVER release a fish into a lake. You can just give the commet to the store if you cant get a bigger tank.

      Just over time I guess. I'd bet their diet didn't hurt at all either.. freeze dried shrimp, algae pucks, and cooked peas (popped from their skins --- read about this beforehand if you intend to try it, I'd hate for anyone to hurt their fish---) as treats.. They also had live plants to nibble at.

      love and care.. and education.
      you definitely need to know HOW to care for them. You need to want to know what is best for them, and find out. So I suggest reading and reading, and cross referencing. (I geek out on everything I try.) And if you have problems that are beyond reading, seek out a professional.
      Keeping fish healthy and happy isn't hard, its a little work and a lot of satisfaction. Like any pet.
      I had the fish from "feeder" size, up until they were 10 inches from lip to tail tip.
      At that point the maintenance of the tank was beginning to escape me, as at that size they produce a lot of waste which makes their environment toxic. It was time to go live in a pond.

    • @majortomswife
      @majortomswife  6 лет назад

      Yes!
      Males will display small bumps on their gills when they reach maturity.. have to look a bit closely to see. I observed what I thought was a pretty aggressive chasing behaviour, and then discovered the physical trait. So cool! The pale orange fish, and the mostly white one, are the males. They would chase the girls around trying to get them to release eggs!

      These fish went to live in a pond.. I haven't followed up in the past year. Mainly because I got bad news last time I checked in..
      LAST I HEARD........
      Unfortunately a Blue Heron attempted to pluck Sushi (white mottled with red) from her pond and FATALLY injured her, though her new keeper did her best with a hospital tank. :(
      The keeper also lost one of her own during said Heron attack. :(
      I'd like to assume the rest live on in the beautiful pond I saw pictures of, being "wild" fish for the rest of their natural lives.
      Soon after sending my fish away to a better life, I sold my tank and all accessories for super cheap.
      I'd love to do it again one day. Next time with a larger tank, or a pond of my own. It was an educational and rewarding experience.
      Thank you so much for inquiring. I wish there wasn't a sad ending for Sushi. But I was told she was a real jumper.. which doesn't surprise me. At least she got to be in a large pond for some time.. Eating real bugs and everything!Most feeder fish don't get the chance, right..
      Cheers.

    Для золотых рыбок растения в аквариуме, это как здания в городе для людей
    ваши рыбки уже очень красивые, они и есть декор аквариума а всё остальное нужно убрать

      +Stephen Ray common are bigger then comet
      common have blunt rounded head while comet smaller body and curved tails
      common goldfish get 13inch in ponds

      Bob Tim same to comets. Comets and commons have blunt heads too. Every goldish have different faces. Anyways, both common and comet grow over 10-12 inches. Difference is that comets have long fins, and streamlined body shape. Common goldfish are broad and wide.
