    I just like how the pipe weapons are made purley of salvage. It really gives a wastelandish feeling.

      Ive downloaded a mod that reskins the PWs. Leaving the Damage and all that Vanilla. That reskin fits the whole Game much better. I just dont like how they look. If Bethesda woudlve used real darker wood textures and steel instead of making them this yellowish it woudlve been fine with me.

    Pipe weapons ironically would work best in the older fallouts when weapons and armor had degrading condition. they naturally wouldve been easy to maintain and repair, and their cheap nature would have made them VERY desirable because those games had a tougher economy.
    But in fallout 4 there are no conditions, you make FAR more money, and on top of this things just generally cost less. which is unfortunate.

    • @Macrochenia
      @Macrochenia 7 лет назад +62

      Cheap to repair, yes, but their condition should degrade much, MUCH faster than an actual gun like a 10mm pistol.

    • @RunningWithRoses
      @RunningWithRoses 7 лет назад +49

      yeah but pipe weapons would be easier to come by. point is they'd make a great early game weapon. shame there is no early game in fallout 4

      Rational Skeptic you my friend clearly have not done your research. Busy right now, more on why later

    • @RunningWithRoses
      @RunningWithRoses 7 лет назад +27

      Doesn't matter if you've put in 5 hours or 500; time doesn't make your opinion correct, facts do. Giving players a power armor that increases their damage resistance by ten FOLD over the best set of armor they can acquire very early game (heavy raider armor). Heavy raider armor, the full set, has a DR of 50. regular t45 armor has a base of 500. the frame by itself has a DR of 60. which means at level, what, 4? you've already entirely eliminated the early game in terms of armor; especially since the game practically gives you all the fusion cores nonstop. and it can quickly be upgraded to t45-b without any perks.
      as for weapons, the laser musket deals about as much damage as the hunting rifle, but its all energy damage; most enemies have lower energy resistance than regular DR, which makes this weapon, especially when upgraded, more effective than most long range weapons in the mid game.
      and you're just given these things, as well as your choice of two companions (dogmeat and codsworth) with zero fucking effort, thus allowing you to just take everything on looting excursions. This removes the early game requirement in previous fallouts that made you triage what loot you would bring back, until you managed to get a companion.

      They did, I miss the 9mm guns in New Vegas. There's not many weapons I like in F04. I've came across several high-tier weapons but I always go back to my trusty Hunting Rifle and 10mm. ... If that says anything. >,,>
      Ah yeah, the Chinese Assault Rifle. I miss that as well now that you mention it; I have a fascination for Chinese tech in the series so I immediately grabbed one in F03. Thankfully there is a Chinese officer's sword that you can use in F04 on the other hand, but it is saddening that there isn't much else besides that.

    • @screenwolf
      @screenwolf 7 лет назад +4

      For sniper rifle kills in pistol form there aren't any other options than a bolt action pipe pistol. The other silenced weapons available (all two of them) have far shorter ranges and less damage up front. Rifle users can move on to several other options but they simply don't exist for pistol users. That's not to say there aren't great pistols out there, but none that do that specific role for that specific (gunslinger) build.

    I like Pipe Weapons. More than any other weapon type, they make me feel like "This is mine". Namely pipe snipers and revolvers. They may not be the strongest, but they are the most fun upgrading, and the most "Fallout", to me anyway. On a lot of characters I've had, I've always had at least 1 pipe weapon with me from beginning to end game. Early on just to make do, but then on simply because of their amazing ammo reserves. I'll sacrifice a little damage to be able to utilize common ammunition in my backup guns. My only wish is that there could have been more advanced part mods which were in much better condition. No rust and things like that. Just to really nail home the journey of a weapon you may have had your entire game by giving it some needed boosts and a nicer construction.

      @Livid72Des 7 лет назад +46

      Pootis Man the only thing sub machine guns seem to be good at is getting money from vendors. Their secondary highly "useful" trait of wasting 45 caliber ammo.

    • @XoRandomGuyoX
      @XoRandomGuyoX 7 лет назад +17

      The regular SMGs have one good purpose: giving the player up to 100 extra .45 rounds when picking up the weapon from a fallen enemy. Even if you don't use .45 ammo yourself it can be converted into 100 or 200 caps to use on something you do want.

    • @jessethane6910
      @jessethane6910 7 лет назад +10

      Screw the submachine gun. It's awful. So are pipe weapons.

    • @screenwolf
      @screenwolf 7 лет назад +17

      Everyone respects Sub Machine guns? That simply isn't true. But anyway, The Sub Machine Gun does have about double the ammo of an automatic pipe pistol. I believe it is more stable in general too. The big problem with the SMG is that for the brief period of time where they are actually useful as a weapon, you don't tend to have buckets of .45 ammo and because you know a combat rifle is likely not far off chances are you'll want to save that up anyway. By the time .45 is plentiful the gun is simply too weak and limited (baring the top legendary effects like bleeding or explosive). Mostly though SMG's main purpose seems to be selling them for cash. That means they are very useful, just not as actual weapons.

    • @matchesburn
      @matchesburn 7 лет назад +5

      ...Who the hell likes the vanilla Sub-Machine Gun in Fallout 4? It's shit. Uses .45 ACP, which is probably even less common than 10mm, it's heavy, has few customization options and its damage is pretty shitty - especially for the ammo. The only positive thing about the vanilla SMG is Spray n Pray... and pretty much any automatic weapon is going to effective with explosive rounds and a 100 round drum.
      Personally, without mods (which is about on par with ranking decaffeinated coffee on the scale of pointlessness and stupid pursuits), the only ballistic weapons I care for in vanilla Fallout 4 are the 10mm pistol, Combat Rifle/Shotgun and especially the Handmade rifle. Assault rifle may, on paper, be great but outside of excellent recoil management I hate them because they look terrible and they're heavy as fuck, and the Combat Rifle fills an almost identical role while allowing more leeway in late-game upgrades for damage. Laser and Plama weapons are also more rewarding and fun to use in Fallout 4 than in 3.

      In guns:
      Fallout 3 was the most bland one
      Fallout New Vegas gave lots of options, but had limited gunplay
      Fallout 4 gave options but tried keeping it more casual, above your average players dont like that but they did improve much of the gunplay
      What I would want:
      Durability options from the armor to some of the weapons
      Pre war guns would just need a tap of oil, a few springs and screws
      Pipe weapons would need the whole barrel remade, but would be a little cheaper than now to make
      Bullet types would be nice, but it must not be at the cost of people not using energy weapons anymore

      New Vegas took place in Nevada, Fallout 4 takes place in Massachusetts. Compare the gun laws of both of those states and, considering that what one finds in a Fallout game is influenced by whatever was there before the bombs fell, it is clear why there will be more guns in New Vegas, and less guns in Fallout 4, and why it would be more common to find homemade guns in Fallout 4 than in New Vegas.

      I created a pipe revolver rifle out of it, the 6-Shot. Got a complete visual overhaul, has a large bayonet attached to it (the one from the missile launcher), and can use 8 different calibers, each one also providing a different side effect. For example, 5mm ammo deals bleed damage and bypasses all physical ammo, 10mm ammo is extremely AP efficient in VATS, 44 magnum has a chance to knock enemies over (stacks with the Sniper02 perk), and .50 cal deals 125 damage by default and staggers enemies (also has enhanced AP).

      Even now at level 48, I still have a regular pipe rifle as a mid-range rifle meant to start engagements and clean up raiders because I got one to drop with the Incendiary effect. So, when I could finally swap my Overseer's Guardian to .308, I pulled it out of it's case and swapped it to .45 since I had about 1400 rounds of .45 by them. Yes they were intended as early game weapons. However, (largely thanks to the removal of weapon and armor condition) there really is no early game in fallout 4. within the first hour of gameplay you end up with a sizable arsenal of far more powerful weapons and a suit of power armor. Players never really have a need, and thus no desire, to use pipe weapons. Hell even the starting 10mm pistol you get is far better than the pipe weapons you find, and you get an absurdly plentiful amount of ammo for it.
    The early game is so horrifically bungled, its actually recommended you avoid concord and lexington and sweep down through abernathy farm and around into diamond city, as you end up with an early game thats not only more lore friendly, but also less noob friendly. Its also far too easy to earn caps and better guns. so theres really no "early" game. you kind of just start at a mid-game level of weapons.

    • @Warp2567
      @Warp2567 5 лет назад +2

      Nah. Concord and Lexington for the most part have weak weapons. Laser Musket, 10mm Pistol and Pipe guns are just about it. I'd hardly call those good guns at all. Also the introduction to Power Armor in the beginning doesn't break the early game. Power Armor requires Fusion Cores and those are incredibly hard to find anyway, so that in itself is balanced, because by the time you kill the Deathclaw in main storyline, the first Fusion Core is almost gone. You can't use the armor again until you deviate a bit from the main quest.
      It's not until you discover Cambridge Police Station (BoS storyline) that's when you get some actual good guns (Institute Rifle and Righteous Authority)

      Mr. Coffee My issue with repairing is that you have to have multiple of one gun to repair it. If you really like let’s say a super sledge, you barely ever find them so it just keeps breaking. If condition of weapons were to come back it would be good to have to use scrap parts like how you can repair power armor with scrap parts. I think it’s just dumb to make you carry multiple guns just so you can continue using them.

    I started playing the game this week, and this semiautomatic .38 pipe rifle I found is _much_ more effective against feral ghouls than my sawed-off shotgun, especially due to the huge amount of .38 ammunition I've found (I'm almost constantly over a thousand rounds), which allows me to put a lot of bullets "downrange" into enemies, as opposed to the shotgun, which only allows me to fire two shots before I have to reload again, opening the window for the ghouls to rush my ass
    As modern military doctrine would suggest, it would seem like sustained fire from lightweight, low-caliber ammunition can be way more effective than raw sdobbin' bawah at medium to close range

    I freaking love pipe weapons, actually. I tend to prefer the feel of automatics, and given that an auto pipe rifle can be upgraded to near-optimal status with a single rank of Gun Nut, it can be a very powerful early-to-mid game weapon allowing you to cut through lightly-armored enemies like butter at any range. Once I even got lucky enough to get a Mighty pipe rifle very early on... between that and the Deadeye 10mm auto pistol I also found, it was never really even worth bothering with the combat rifle at all.

    I'm a huge stickler for my carry weight so I use these guns a lot because of their comparatively light weight and easy to find ammo/mods. The SMG being a Thompson is awesome but I'm not going to lug around a 15 pound gun I rarely find pre modded when one that weighs 5 and was fully decked-out by a raider I shot in the face will do the same job. Same goes for the sniper rifle.

    revolvers aren't that great you know, just because a gun is a revolver doesn't magically give it more power.
    typically, revolvers use higher power cartridges than automatic pistols, but for the same cartridge, the revolving mechanism doesn't help any.
    that 'pipe revolver' has a shorter barrel, and the gap between the barrel and the cylinder can actually cause a loss in pressure and hurt the performance of the gun.
    the higher upgrade requirement doesn't make that much sense though, revolvers are mechanically simpler.

      Mancomb .Seepwood i haven't played fallout but have been watching some videos. I'm kinda old - but seriously considering getting back in to video games.
      anyway - when you say the gun was broken, with context - it was so CRAZY overpowered and a behemoth must be a pretty strong enemy, it's not "fair" or fun to use? with the.38 ammo talked about in the video? just curious - I've never played a fallout game. .38 ammo is .38 ammo in "the real world" and try & auto fire it all you want - it's still .38 - I'm guessing from the videos that I'm watching there are different game mechanics that not only let you upgrade your weapons but also your skills which all combine to deal more damage. I kind of always heard Fallout was supposed to be a realistic kind of game but some of this is a bit ridiculous seems like some of the modern video game hand-holding I see. BUT it's a game and looks awesome. but then you talk about survival mode and maybe that the real game LOL I need somebody to sponsor me with a console I'll buy the PC and do the gruntled old gamer PC vs console Channel. you all heard it here first if you take my idea I will sue you. HAHAHAHA that's a troll. But seriously - that's my idea. the entire concept. especially the gruntled gamer, gruntled old gamer, all variants and anything resembling anything even tangential but also directly related to anything in this post.
      ok that's done. Brilliant.
      Anyway - here's the question is Fallout a good enough game series to buy a modern console just to play? also are my statements at the beginning of this post correct regarding my assumptions about the game

    • @itsmethatsit.2934
      @itsmethatsit.2934 7 лет назад

      Mark Vickroy yeah, you’re statements about it are correct, and yes I believe that the series is good enough to buy a console for. You can buy an Xbox 1 and get fallout 4, fallout new Vegas, and possibly 3 on it. But you would have to buy the 360 edition of new Vegas and 3 because those games also work on the Xbox 1 and haven’t been released with their own Xbox 1 version.

    An automatic pipe weapon with wounding effect is good enough for beginning to the end of the game. Even behemoth s and deathclaws. Just spray down anything repeatedly, big or small that's in your way, and it's down shortly. I have gunsmith extended installed that lets you put effects on guns after unlocking certain perks. I loving taking an enchanted weapon that was acquired, and sticking another enchantment on it, like they wounding effect. Currently I have a kneecapper automatic pipe pistol, with wounding effect added. Behemoths beware!

    I quite enjoyed a pipe bolt-action .308 sniper on a survival playthrough. The damage isn't as much as a hunting rifle but it weighed only around 8-9 lbs compared to a hunting rifle that was at 15-18 lbs. Half the weight at almost the same stats? the damage was less, but it didn't make that much of a difference and the free carrying capacity was quite useful.

    I once had a instigating pipe revolver, It really was the best stealth pistol ever. Being able to switch between the .45 and .308 receiver's made life so easy. Also it has a decent fire rate, something that the bolt action pistols didn't have. Ammo capacity might've been low but I just put points into quick hands and that problem went away fast. Then ofcourse there was all the mods for it, settled on a comfort grip with a short recon scope, and a long ported barrel with a suppressor.

    Furious legendary effect is great on the Pipe gun. 15% extra damage each consecutive shot is great, and quickly gets up to double or triple damage and beyond.
    Explosive is great if you upgrade the explosives perk.
    The effect that makes enemies bleed is great because the effect stacks with each shot.
    Basically anything with consecutive damage is good.

    1:42
    * Revolver-type weapons lose some gas pressure through the opening between the cylinder and the barrel, so all else being equal, they'll have a lower muzzle velocity than a pistol.
    * The handgun (revolver or pistol doesn't matter) typically also has a too-short barrel, meaning that the bullet comes out before the propellant gasses have done their work properly.
    Yes, this does mean that a shorter-barreled weapon will victually always be both louder *and* less potent than a weapon with a proper-length barrel.
    Remember: Noise = Waste.

      3. Crit bank first few enemies to build Gun Foo bonus

    my problem with pipe weapons isnt that they are too weak; it's that they are too STRONG. They're ugly, ramshackle guns that don't become obsolete fast enough, and heavily overstay their welcome as they continue to outshine other, cooler weapons well into the mid and even late-game.

    I did find an automatic pipe rifle that had a bottomless clip effect so I had to make it with a small clip to reduce weight. Plus, I made the weapon use its weakest ammunition because I gather a lot of it. But with the rifleman or cammando perks, the bottomless clip weapon proved effective enough to be a decent weapon for dealing damage against most targets, especially since I'm mostly playing without using vats.

    Apart from the revolver I hate the way they look though, and for me that's a very big thing on choosing a weapon. Tbh I noticed on a lot of your vids you don't really take aesthetics into account, i remember the toilet parts synth armor being a top armour on one of your vids and i was like 'WTF? how can anyone like that?' Not a gripe just an observation.

    It's been awhile, but I remember using pipe weapons some times even in the late-mid game. The reason being the one I used had an ammo type (i forget which) that didn't use on any other weapons and had a SHIT TON of. So....when ever I was in low risk areas I would pull out the piple gun and save the heavy stuff for when things got dicey.

      There's actually a magazine you can find in FO4 from the Guns and Bullets set that has a pipe revolver on it BEFORE the bombs fell. I think its there as a sort of time capsule as the government before the great war banned/collected all weapons from the general public and then the street gangs started to make these crude but reasonably effective pipe weapons as a "fuck you" to the government.

    Maybe it's just me, but I UTTERLY HATE the pipe weapons in Fallout. Not because of what they are, but because they look so damn awful. Like, I installed Yona's Defense Gun and use the optional mod that uses that model as a replacement (the Defense Gun itself looks something like a Sten gun). Because THAT'S WHAT PIPE WEAPONS LOOK LIKE! Not a random block of fucking wood with nails hanging out and fucking Star Wars blaster rifle finned barrel extensions for no god damn reason. And, worse yet, the vanilla Fallout pipe guns are even textured lazily. It's just this amorphous blob of orange and red and brown that is supposed to be rusted metal and wood arranged to make a gun... but... no. It doesn't make sense how they look like they do. It's shit.

    • @jessethane6910

      Actually the physics on the finned barrel checks out and is accurate in real life. I do agree that pipe weapons suck though.

      _"Actually the physics on the finned barrel checks out and is accurate in real life."_
      Yes, I saw BRT Gaming's video on pipe weapons as well. Unfortunately, finned barrel extensions *_DO NOT_* check out. For a counter-balance, having something heavy enough on the muzzle of your rifle to mitigate recoil would also be large enough to make it unwieldy and cumbersome. Front-heavy rifles are also a pain in the ass to carry around constantly as well. Compensators/muzzle brakes would be far more effective and probably take less effort to make (and wouldn't be as heavy).
      As far as heat sinks, they're more effective in that than as a counter-weight (if you take the barrel jacket/shroud off a Lewis gun, the radiator underneath it would look somewhat similar - ironically, Bethesda seems to have slapped similar looking shit onto the Assault Rifle for whatever reason. Someone at BGS really has a hard-on for Lewis guns, it seems), but the game mechanics also don't address overheating nor do the stat changes seem to indicate that's what is changed. Also, this method isn't really used anymore and bull/larger diameter barrels are several times more effective at absorbing and dissipating heat than a finned radiator.
      There's just no damn reason for it to exist on the gun outside of "hey, that looks like the Star Wars blaster, that's cool). Especially when you consider the amount of time and effort it would take to weld all those damn fins onto the barrel shroud/jacket extension and it would do basically nothing to justify it.

    I didn't realise for a long time that you can get heaps more ammo by picking up guns off dead enemies and then dropping or selling them. You essentially get the ammo that was in the gun as well as the few extra rounds in their inventory that you pick up normally.
    Doing this yields sufficient ammo for most semi auto weapons (not so much revolvers and hunting rifle, as their magazine is small).
    If you're willing to swap between a couple of weapons periodically, you could probably maintain ammo supply for fully automatic weapons as well.

    I noticed another benefit to using a pipe as a close quarters or backup weapon. There is no safety or power on animation. That means the gun is shooting slightly faster then say a 10 mm (safety) or a laser pistol (power on). If you have ghouls or dogs charging you that 1 second animation can mean the difference between being saved by the pipe or taking a hit.

    In the late game I have only found use for one pipe weapon and it's real specific. My first character was a gunslinger and no matter what level he reached (I last left him about 130 I think) I never invested in alternate combat skills. he's all pistols all the time. The Bolt Action Pipe pistol allows him to have a heavy hitting, silenced, sniper pistol with excellent range. It's the only weapon of it's kind for gunslingers. That character usually carries at least four different pistols for different situations, but that one in particular has been a constant companion ever since he had access to the top tier mods for it (which being a Pipe weapon was pretty early).
    I've also found in the early-mid game, where you have plenty of weapons not not huge amounts of ammo it is good to pass on decent Pipe weapons (automatics with legendary effects mostly) to companions. They do well enough with them and you can hoard all the good ammo for yourself. Especially useful if you are running a commando build. Meanwhile the spare non-pipe weapons go to settlers as they only need one ammo anyway.

    With ranks in the Scrapper perk, Pipe guns with mods on them are quite useful for scrapping for resources. They're common to find with at least one or two mods on them on your average Raider or Super Mutant, and they can provide a decent amount of good materials with multiple ranks in Scrapper.
    Plus, they're cheap to buy from Settlement-built Weapon Kiosks and their .38 Ammo is good to use as merchandise to sell if you don't intend on really using it.
