Nanci Caroline Griffith (July 6, 1953 - August 13, 2021) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She appeared many times on the PBS music program Austin City Limits starting in 1985 (season 10). In 1994 she won a Grammy Award for the album Other Voices, Other Rooms. Griffith toured with various other artists, including Buddy Holly's band, the Crickets; John Prine; Iris DeMent; Suzy Bogguss; Judy Collins and The Everly Brothers. Griffith recorded duets with many artists, among them Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, John Prine, Don McLean, Jimmy Buffett, Dolores Keane, Willie Nelson, Adam Duritz (singer of Counting Crows), the Chieftains, John Stewart; and Darius Rucker (lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish). Griffith had a backing band which she referred to as the Blue Moon Orchestra.
This video for me began as another correction project. First it was attempted to be rendered on a 16 x 9 background while shot in 4 x 3. This seldom works, 2nd the color was woefully off which I’ve attempted to make better. I am a newbie on the software and I am old but I am learning.
Finally the events in this video are probably at her favorite bar in Austin about 1986. It was a rollout party for her 3rd album JUST ONCE IN A VERY BLUE MOON. The video is not the entire gig. It ends with a band break.
Cut it out woman oh, you're making me fall in love with you. Your music is so beautiful
Easy to do
"To me, you are perfect."
*The original performance of this Nanci Griffith recording was at Anderson Fair in Houston on September 29, 1984.*
*It was supposed to be her Once in a Very Blue Moon album release party, but the album release was delayed, and the show went on as scheduled.*
TO add to the list of duets, Wall of Death with Richard Thompson. Simply fabulous. I sense a very smart / savvy as well as talented artist. Austin must have had musician additive in the water through the 60s, 70s and 80s
Was it Red Lion in Austin?
You are like Melanie
Thank you. We sure miss her 😢
Years ago I saw the Killroy name carved in a cave in Corrigidor.
Happy 🎉day dearest Nanci
You said about divorce or separated my girl died maybe you should have mentioned that one to girl yes I know how it has to be torn apart
Cool music you are talented
Thank you for posting. This is very valuable.
Which bar is this at?
Can't remember the name but Nanci started performing there at age 14.
@@janhammer39 When she sings "Spin on a red brick floor" she says "it was written about this place" - so I think this must be Anderson Fair in Houston, and not the Red Lion in Austin where she played aged 14.
