he just became crazy after Russian campaign. In 1812 retreat he was exemplary. He covered french army with his men and see all of his soldiers being frozen and dying. We can excuse him for Waterloo. Despite he is a ginger, I believe that he has a soul
Yeah, Napoleon himself dubbed Ney "The Bravest of the Braves" for Ney's ability to break his army out of a completely hopeless battle, heavily outnumbered, while fighting alongside his men.
Please Excuse the way I say Wellington. It was a slip of the tounge. But to be fair I do that stuff all the time. But I do have a question about the Ad break. Do you prefer the Ad break before the battle after the army comps. Or do you prefer it right in the middle of the Video? Thanks
Last year, I went to Waterloo, on the 200th Anniversary, as a History Buff, I was amazed, Waterloo was the reason I liked history (especially the movie, made in 1970), I went to Belgium and saw the battlefield, I remember seeing Prussian, French and British 'troops' marching down, I noticed the 42nd Blackwatch in the British Forces. Plus, I went to St Pauls Cathedral where they were holding a special service for Waterloo, finally, I got a medal, very special one with a lion on one side and the Duke of Wellington on the other, platinum plated bronze medal. 2015 was a great year for me.
what I really love is that you played this on twitch, but I love how you still sound so excited and pent up even if you played this alresdy, props to you man
just got been to the Woolwich armouries museum in London and they have cannons that were at Waterloo and they were saying that artillery really made a huge difference
I love your vids dude, i really like the total war warhammer and third age series and i really like your commentary. pleas keep making these vids i love them!!
It was interesting to see the French win loosely following Napoleon's battle plan. Every time I played Waterloo trying to follow Napoleon's plan I lost badly. In the end the only way I could win was to throw Napoleon's strategy out the window and heavily attack the enemy's left thus outflanking and then steamrolling right across their lines to their far right. I never attempted to capture any of the buildings that were part of the original plan. So thankyou, I thought perhaps it wasn't possible to win Waterloo in this game using the emperor's strategy.
Thanks for the film recommendation! Napoleon escaped after the battle of Waterloo, but was caught later and sent to St Helena. I think he died a couple of years later.
It is so refreshing to see some good old NTW gameplay. Best game ever made, classes above the "spirit leech", "fate of bjuna" and all the other TWW horse crap. Immagine if one day we could have a Napoleon 2, with tens of thousands of troops, huge maps and stunning graphics.
I remember on the napoleonic wars warband mod my old regiment used to be able to take on 3 regiments at a time in melee and win with at least half the regiment left.
I agree, that battle is really made to be historically accurate. I think he just did vanilla because thats the battles that he normally commentates are. Plus he was doing it on stream with viewers, so it would could have complicated it, and dragged it out since he played it multiple times with new people. It is an unfortunate missed opportunity though
Important battle? Well, it did mean the last nail in the coffin for Napoleon. Even if he would have won, his army would have been too battered to face both the Austrians and the Russians. Not to talk of his lack of navy. No, the real battle was Leipzig in 1813 after his defeat in Russia and then later in the Peninsular war. Sorry, the aspiring historian got the better of me.
I agree completely with you my friend, though symbolically speaking Waterloo is the last shout of Napoleon. I really respect him as a general and as man a true testament to what ambition and hard work can bring.
It definitely would have been a big deal if he had won. He wouldn't have been able to successfully invade Austria or Russia with that army, but saying he was fucked regardless is not true.
Well, if he had given Wellington and Blücher a good trashing, he might just have scrambled a peace treaty. But at this time his enemies had learned the importance of a people's army. He would have been swarmed in the end, especially by the Russians with the Zar with deep hatred of Napoleon.
He was fucked. The Allies, at the outset, had 850,000 men. The French had 250,000 men, with no possibility of allies outside of maybe a liberated Belgium. Spain certainly wasn't going to ally with France after their betrayal. The French populace was also war-weary and decades of warfare in Europe had left its economy in tatters, so a long-term war could not be sustained. Napoleon might have been able to drag the Hundred Days out for a bit longer, but there was no way he'd cling on forever. He was getting old and plagued with illnesses, and his enemies were rife and had sworn to bring him down.
I don't think he will fight the Austrians and the Russian after the battle in Waterloo. When he returned to Paris from being exiled, he wanted to propose a Peace Treaty with the Coalition but instead, they denied it and declared war on Napoleon himself, not France. So he planned on having a fight with the British and the Prussian forces that way his peace treaty will be accepted and become the Emperor of France again.
Incidentally Napoleon took ill with piles in the afternoon of the battle and took a rest which is when Marshall Ney committed the cavalry much to the Emperors regret, that's when the British formed squares and held.
Pixelated Apollo, I know this is a few years late, but, I just went and read this after watching, and Napoleon DID survive the battle of Waterloo and was sent into exile again, 3 days after the battle. he died a few months later of stomach cancer from the poor living conditions.
It's pretty cool you were the one charging in first there! The French forces trying to capture Hougoumont (the building and little forest you tried to storm in early on) were actually the one opening the fights! But yeah... no matter how many men they threw at the place, the English stood on for the entire battle. There's been a lot of intense close quarter action and pointless unprepared rushes on this side of the battlefield... You actually played quite historically Ahahah Great video as always, quite the good stuff going mate, cheers from France!
Well I say historically, since in this scenario the French end up winning the battle I'd say that your men's sacrifice was for the "greater good" ahah!
I was the person you mentioned that "Was in command of this battle" who suggested we didn't target houses with artillery, but charged them with our elite melee troops. I didn't think I was in command, but thank you for the mention. I struggled a bit this battle and can recap my part when my men were shown. 1. (+) At 7:15 the grenadiers charging the middle house were under my command, I'm glad they made it in initially with relatively few casualties. I used the terrain to shield them from fire, a tactic I actually learned from your videos :) Unfortunately, I had some weird glitches and only about 60-70% of them would enter the house. The rest were killed in the open :( 2. (+) At 8:35 my men are supporting your push to the house, I noticed your men taking fire so I thought I'd send in some support. 3. (-) At 8:55 my artillery was engaging the English Cavalry for about a minute before the melee began; I didn't notice the clash until after some friendly fire warnings. You asked to stop firing and I quickly did, sorry about that! 4. (-) At 9:34 My "Hunters" were not being effective, I noticed them eventually but realize they had a bad angle of attack. Again, this is something I've improved upon after watching your videos. 5. (-) & (+) At 12:43 My general is sacrificed in order to protect my "Hunters" from the impending cav charge, he died from enemy artillery fire sadly. However, I did managed to kill off most of their elite cav with my artillery crew - who you actually came to save at 13:15! Thank you for the support :) 6. (+) At 20:58 We witness the last of my infantry, my light inf doing the "We will rock you" dance for some unknown reason :) The end. I spent most of my men's lives taking the middle and right house. In the end, it was my first battle with you after watching countless hours of your videos. It was an honor and a privilege to have my men fight and die besides yours and our allies. Thank you sir for all your hard work and dedication to your fans! TKS Slipstream_Saint (Steam name)
I'm french and it's always so funny to hear you saying some french words like "cheval" or "vive la France" XD But the battle still so epic, as all the Total War's Battle
I feel like fighting with more people in your side really helps because you have people taking care of a specific area and specific units of soldiers, you have to make sure to follow your comrades orders and do your best in order to win the battle, they did an excellent job in working together and if napoleon could see this video I know he would have been very proud of this players way if fighting, just like napoleon they fought very bravely for france, viva la France !!!! viva napoleon emperor of France!!!
so I had an idea for another life of a soldier video, remember the isengard campaign you did. well what if you followed around the great Lurtz as he terrorizes Rohan lol
Wellesley, the Duke Of Wellington against Napoleon, the Emperor of France. The Battle Of Waterloo was possibly my favorite battle in the Napoleonic wars, right up there with Austerlitz.
They made a fantastic movie of the battle back in the 70s, you can buy a DVD of it online, no digital versions. Called 'Waterloo', the Kremlin lent the director an entire Red Army division.
Hey man, I found your channel a couple days ago looking for warhammer content and I have to say, I love your videos. Your Napoleon series is by far my favourite. If you happen to see this comment could you please upload another Napoleon video where you play as the British? As a McCallum (and a Scotsman) I love seeing the Black Watch dawn the tartan of my family. Keep up the good work man I really appreciate you constant upload rate.
OMG , this is the coolest battle I ever seen in my life! By the why you have german followers too... Me and my class are all german and we love youre videos! Pls say in the next battle my name (Benjamin) I would be really , really happy. Sorry for my bad English XD.
I played Wellington in his first battle he mentions in the video! It was a fun fight, I was worried when I saw I was directly opposite Apollo's forces. Luckily me and the guy to the left of my position held on long enough for Prussia to clean up the field, in the end my only unit left on the field was Wellington and his guard :p
I BEAT THE BATTLE OF WATERLOO ON THE FRENCH SIDE WITH MY LAST TROOPS LEFT BEING MY OLD GUARD AND THE YOUNG GUARD AND THE BRITS ONLY HAD 2 CANNONS LEFT WITH NO AMMO AND IT TOLD ME I LOST WHEN I TOLD MY TROOPS TO ATTACK THE LAST CANNONS, BUT I WON AND I FEEL LIKES I HAS A SAD! ;(
Pixelated Apollo do the Battle of Trafalgar. It is when the Royal Navy took on Spanish and French navies and won without losing any ships. That is why the British are awesome.

+Mat Seg true....
He wanted to prrove that he was loyal after the treason of Napoleon and proove himself that he could replace maréchal Murat at the cavalry commander .
Yeah, Napoleon himself dubbed Ney "The Bravest of the Braves" for Ney's ability to break his army out of a completely hopeless battle, heavily outnumbered, while fighting alongside his men.
Although it was a disaster, Ney thought they were retreating so he tried to exploit it
Less historical battles more moving your desk up and down simultaneously with your eyebrows
Damnit Alex you are so demanding!!!
:D
@@AlextheRambler Hey there rambler boy
Why hello there Alex

After army comp
first like then watch
army com stage
Actually his name was Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington. Many people call him just Wellington, even though it's not his name, just title.
After army comp
"March divided, fight united" Such a good quote to start this battle!
:D
I'm so glad somebody still covers this great game. Best Total War ever
you know its not apollo commentating if he doesnt talk about each units style choices
Hahah you know it

Great vid as usual pixie
thx for doin the 201st anniversary of waterloo
I really liked this one ahaha, specially the beginning and some history about it , that's nice bro!
just got been to the Woolwich armouries museum in London and they have cannons that were at Waterloo and they were saying that artillery really made a huge difference
also they explained that when the old guard got defeated that started the French army to turn and run!

I like France
Good ^^
Lord8976 im not even from France but France seems cool xD
Azrakul I know Napoleon was conquering everything, but he wasn't crazy or anything, wasn't he chill?
Yeah he was a pretty chill guy, he only wanted to get rid of all the sovereign Monarchies and replace them with a single empire under his rule.
By God sir, so you have.
I get it, Waterloo film 1970. Uxbridge says that to Wellington and Wellington replies with “It seems you have.” I love that film.
Ivan that was an actual quote
Well... "Grenadiers à cheval"... I love Pixi trying to speak french 😂 Bon courage Apollo, don't give up ✊
"Some of them could call me more than Colonel Eh!" Duke of Gordon
I heard that William II of Orange was leading his army on the frontlines instead of in the back like most generals did back than.

Dude this is the best total war channel ever. i dont suppose you have a battle replay with like a war of 1066 theme?. Almost nobody does
this is seriously the most aggressive napoleon battle i've ever seen
i playd in this battle and commanded the french cavalry. we had to be agressive because otherwise we would have gotten sandwiched by prussia
KoDeZ it definitely worked out! I honestly never thought france could ever stand a chance in that battle.
You really shouldve done the NTW3 mod's version of the battle. A million times better than the vanilla battle seen here.
I agree, that battle is really made to be historically accurate. I think he just did vanilla because thats the battles that he normally commentates are. Fun fact in Ireland there is a Napoleonic museum with the biggest model soldier display in the which is the battle of waterloo
Duke Of Wellington was also named Iron Duke because he was the master of defense
Incidentally Napoleon took ill with piles in the afternoon of the battle and took a rest which is when Marshall Ney committed the cavalry much to the Emperors regret, that's when the British formed squares and held.
Greatings from Wellington, New Zealand! Or as the guy in the video would call it: Willington... -.-
I love Waterloo when defending and no artillery is allowed or attacking when artillery is allowed.
