@@noneyabiz1513 No, she didn't. It was their CEO/producer who asked Moonbyul to. At the time, she was the least strong, vocally speaking, and it was fashionable to have a rapper in the group to succeed (it still is, somehow).
True but worth pointing out that they had very loosely defined roles early on and dropped them almost entirely after their rookie years. They're three vocalists and a rapper (Moonbyul often introduces herself as being in charge of rapping and performance but that's the only variation) and you will never catch any of them saying they're "main/lead/sub vocals". Also, the only reason there's a gap between Moonbyul and the other three as vocalists is because they continued receiving vocal training and she learned how to rap. She was never a rapper prior to the group forming and she was accepted into RBW as a vocal trainee. If Mamamoo was meant to be purely vocals, she would have no doubt been one. The group was actually meant to be five strong but she was picked to rap before the fifth member departed so they were always meant to have that rapping part to them. The fifth member was rumored to be a stronger singer than Hwasa but Hwasa was seen as initially more talented in rap than Moonbyul (Moonbyul credits Hwasa with teaching her how to rap) which is why when the group was young, Hwasa was often split between raps and vocals, which is why we got stuff like "Dab Dab" and once Moonbyul fully came into her own they backed Hwasa off the rap stuff and put her entirely on vocals. Also, that fifth member was the eldest of them all which most likely would have made her the leader which is why, for Moo Moos who know, that Solar struggled as leader early on because it was thrust upon her and she had no idea how to act like the eldest (she is the baby of her family). And just FWIW they're still quite close with that lost member, I believe she and Hwasa are super close. Mamamoo history lesson over lol.
She was originally going to be a lead, but her rap skills are outstanding so they positioned her as the Rapper of the group. Her voice is really excellent.
To the poeple watching this and commenting, if you actually listen to more kpop you'd know that the "this sounds like a boy group song" isn't supposed to discredit and offend Moonbyul's work, it's just the fact that this type of industrial sounding instrumentals and musical elements are pretty popular and trendy among boy groups recently and it's actually undeniable cause everyone's doing it, it's just about musical styles and trends, not gender and there's no reason to get butthurt! She's actually breaking the stereotypes by doing it, we should stop getting offended by everything!
Honestly, I like EXO but come on, this is better than any EXO song. And j think the biggest difference is the lyrics. They're beautiful lyrics and the powerful voice, oof!
Moonbyul is the most underrated idol ever.. her style is very unique but it doesnt fit the stereotype so people just sleep on her work. she's also very talented she writes and composes as well. check her and mamamoo out they are insanely talented..
Love how Charlotte is talking about the traditional male-associated style of her clothing, her moves, her everything and that she's always been one to break from the traditional female associations, the comments on the song overall sounding more like what we're used to from male groups is the first step to get those hard lines softened in my opinion. Btw Rafael and Jamal were a mood the whole time.
I’m so glad I watched this, I haven’t listened to her album in a couple of months and now I want to listen to it all again. As always I hear things that I didn’t before now that musicians pointed things out. The thing that I can’t believe I didn’t notice was that the male voice did the backing in that part.
I think the reactors would enjoy her b-side "ILJIDO". Another interesting instrumental, smooth and free vocals, and a vibe on par with songs like "Candy" by Baekhyun,
When Moonbyul puts on the suit, there's nobody who can look more handsome than she does. Btw, I hope you guys will react to other songs from Moonbyul's Dark Side of the Moon album, like Iljido and Mirror.
Eclipse is a masterpiece. I love this song. She can rap abs sing at the highest level. Queen. “Absence”, “love & hate/worthless”, “mirror”, “Iljibo”, “moon movie, “snow” , “in my room” and her new song that she released around her birthday. “Selfish” that she did with Sulgie is also good. While I like Selfish, the tracks from Moon and Darkside of the Moon are more Moonbyul to me while still showing her versatility.
"Dal dal mosendal" "moon moon which moon" is actually a children lullaby... and she made it into this .... and the fact this song represents her the best in all of it's aspects.....
8:30 “They never focused on her for more than 2 seconds” IS SO MY FEELINGS ON THIS MV. I love the quality of Mamamoo’s music videos in general (they’re shot very well), but their editors always go and chop them all up to the point that I’m left confused and disoriented by the end. RBW seriously needs hire better editors because they always ruin Mamamoo’s videos with amateur editing.
Moonbyul talked about wanting to do music, and that there should be no boundaries between male and female artists in kpop, saying its a boy group song reduced its impact
I think fan reactions saying "oh this sounds like a boy group song" is part of the transition to getting rid of boundaries! First it's shocking, since there's such a big difference between sounds, but the more boy groups and girl groups blend sounds, then the boundaries will finally fall? Those are just my thoughts...what do you think?
@@ReacttotheK i am glad that it started this conversation, i am longing for a concepts in kpop where there is no typical gender norms restrictions, Like she said, by doing this, she is bridging the gap between the lines dividing "feminine" & "masculine" music
I think it's less "this sounds like a boy group song" and more "this sounds like songs by [instert boy group here]". The distinction is that Moonbyul is obviously not a boy group. And she did a great job, nobody would say it's not her song. So now we're starting to build a base of music that sounds like [instert boy group here] that is by female artists, pushing us away from boundaries between male and female artists in kpop.
maybe getting rid of the boundaries between the norm of what music a boy group should make and what a girl group should, aka girl group songs should be generalised to just this, and same with boy group songs?
Eclipse is off of her album, Dark Side of the Moon. ILJIDO is one of my favorite tracks from the album. You can watch her performance video of it on her group MAMAMOO ‘s homepage
I love how Moonbyul took a risk with going with the kind of music and concept she wants and more comfortable with, despite it wouldn't be general public friendly. At 4:50, that's actually ONEWE's main vocalist Yonghoon and some of the other backup vocals are ONEUS Seoho's too.
An amazing fact about Moonbyul that sets her apart from the rest of the K-Pop world is that she helps compose a number of her groups pieces alongside writing all of her own raps. She is the most credited female idol in the genre. True artist overall!!! It's funny that on Mamamoo's comebacks one of the Universes she is depicted as a producer....Real talk, I would pay serious money to experience any artist, group or band produces!

Thank you so much for reacting to Byul's Eclipse!!! I loved to hear how the musicians pointed out the more technical side of the track, I dont know music theory but they managed to explain things pretty well. Thank you for also remarking on the concept, how it tied to the music, and visuals of the MV. Moonbyul's Dark Side Of The Moon really shows her versatility combining hard-hitting tracks like Eclipse and Moon Movie, with slower, emotionally-driven songs like Mirror and Snow (and later on Absence in Moon repackage), there's also ILJIDO and Weird Day as a couple of chill, easy-listening tracks. These all speak about various facets of Byul at this point in her life, I definitely recommend giving it a listen if you're interested in her solo music!
@@viraoktaviani8290 f(X) was late 2nd gen, MMM is early 3rd gen. 4th gen is like G(I-DLE), aespa, ITZY, etc. And hard disagree on Amber, she was just a tomboy, she and Moonbyul are very different artists. Great reaction! Moonbyul is so underappreciated. Eclipse is so powerful and the world was not ready for it. I just wish the world could have experienced it at least once to realize how fucking amazing not only Eclipse (the main track) but the entire album was artistically and lyrically speaking
Moonbyul has a particular talent of being able to flow from a rapping set easily into a melodic line. That’s why (in my opinion) her solo album was so good even though she’s slated as the “rapper”. And most moomoos know she went to RBW to sing not rap, but they had auditioned enough singers so our Byulie rapped and history was made. EDIT: Guys, it makes me so sad they’re so surprised by her range. She’s a singer and a rapper. I’m so glad she got this solo because she was able to shine. The b-sides are fantastic.
Wow this is actually the first time I'm hearing Moonbyul's position being called as a sub-vocalist lol. From all I know the only position Mamamoo has are only Leader, Vocalist, Rapper, Performer, and Maknae. This is interesting tho, if Moonbyul indeed is a sub-vocalist just like what you said (*which is in terms of rank, sub being the lowest tier, while main vocalist being the highest) then imagine how good their main vocalist are.
You're right that they don't have any sub/main/lead distinction, that's something that spread from kpop fandom, not MMM themselves. She *could* be considered a sub-vocalist, especially now that she's getting more vocal parts in MMM songs, but it isn't anything official.
I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but I just wanted to clarify that vocalist = sub vocalist, and yes it's the lowest vocal position....The second highest vocal position being lead vocalist and then main vocalist...I wanted to say this because many people confuse vocalist and sub vocalist positions while they're the same. Mamamoo now has ditched the lead, main titles and are only categorised as vocalist, performer and rapper.
@@aradhyasaraf_ True, but in most groups those categories are set in stone. For Mamamoo it only means to indicate things they are strongest in because when push comes to shove... they can all dance, rap and sing. If one looks at how Moonstar up to now has been used vocally, then however yes sub vocalist comes to mind because when actual singing (not rapping) wise she gets the least solo bars but provides harmonizing support where needed.
Everyone already know that Moonbyul can do anything : SING RAP DANCE VISUAL what else... She also have good personality and very kind I love you imbue :)
Looking forward to Moonbyul's 2021 comeback and what she's gonna come up with this time! but before that we're getting Wheein solo soon...looks like we're getting well fed this year as well
it's CRIMINAL that eclipse went by so unnoticed, and not many people outside the fandom even know the song. kpop was not ready for this song, i feel like if it was released today, it would have gotten a lot more fanfare! i love that moonbyul is trying out different concepts now with her solo and showing her versatility, but this one suited her the best! i really hope she'll come back to this concept sometime because it showcased her agenda perfectly. she has always been more on the androgynous/masculine side and this song shows exactly how well she can pull off a boy group esque concept, without making it a higher pitch or more girly. of course, there's nothing wrong with either of those things, i just want to see more songs like this from girl groups or female idols. even the more “girl crush” or “badass” groups like blackpink, everglow, etc are still not truly breaking any boundaries in terms of gender presentation and stereotypes.
Is really awesome to see people appreciating Moonbuyl's song and all the effort that she put it on more in an musical perspective. I hope more fans could see this and support her as mucha as they support the other members. Thanks for this and always ¡Moonbuyl FIGHTING! 🥰🥰 PS: she told that she wanted to make a song like this trying to do more like a boy group song performed by females just to proof she can do it too. So she made it. ¡QUEEN!
Wowwww I wasn’t expecting this reaction almost a year after the release! I really enjoyed the breakdown of this track! It was composed by so many people, and I always wanted to hear the musical breakdown of it. I actually would have expected a reaction to “Absence” by Moonbyul since it’s more recent and probably shows off her vocals better. But on second thought, Eclipse might be more interesting if I set aside the vocals. I’ve always appreciated this track for trying to break down gender stereotypes in kpop. Thanks for reacting to it!
MoonByul is so talented and strong that she managed to sing, and dance to a song that an entire boy group could but she did it all by herself if this isnt talent I dont know what it is . I hate how many people look down on MoonByul because she doesnt sing that much when it comes to MAMAMOO so they say MoonByul doesnt sing but I am SOOO glad she proved them SOOO wrong with this song .
Could you react to krock band Onewe? They’re with RBW (Mamamoo) and they’re the brother group of kpop idol group Oneus. You heard right, she was supported by male vocalists Seoho (Oneus) and Yonghoon (Onewe). You can hear Yonghoon clearly from 4:41- 4:52. I think you would really like them from a musical and vocal perspective. Some suggestions from them: Regulus, Reminisce About All, A Book In Memory, End Of Spring, Parting etc. And like Mamamoo, they are phenomenal live.
Moon is known for her deep voice. And i love that he said it was really put together. Love it because that is Mamamoo all together. They know who they are and what they want.
Moonbyul has quite a strong voice, and she's not even a main vocal! Mamamoo is an all rounder girl group, they deserve more recognition internationally imo
You can also hear some higher notes near the end were made by Seoho from Oneus and Yonghoon from Onewe. And it all fits perfectly. Moonbyul out here showing women can keep up with the boys.
Thank you for doing this video. It’s my number 1 favourite song right now because of its rock undertones and Moonbyul.. just her lol Would you ever do a reaction to Gain - Paradise Lost??
that guy read my mind about the chorus!! i wish it had built up more or a little less so the chorus would be very explosive huhuhu nonetheless i love eclipse, it doesn't get old and how much it means to byul, like,, she fought for that concept and she owns it! despite getting a lot of hate (from sk men lol). i just wish for her to do whatever she want with her music (and let her produce!! bcs she already can and she needs to have more control abt the songs) :(♡
Please react to Moon Byul's other solo songs. Among Moonbyul's solo songs, I want to introduce C.I.T.T and G999 first.
Everyone already know that Moonbyul can do anything :
SING
RAP
DANCE
VISUAL
what else...
She also have good personality and very kind
I love you imbue :)
Looking forward to Moonbyul's 2021 comeback and what she's gonna come up with this time! but before that we're getting Wheein solo soon...looks like we're getting well fed this year as well
Yessss from an artistic standpoint truly breaking those societal gender standards!!
it's CRIMINAL that eclipse went by so unnoticed, and not many people outside the fandom even know the song. kpop was not ready for this song, i feel like if it was released today, it would have gotten a lot more fanfare! i love that moonbyul is trying out different concepts now with her solo and showing her versatility, but this one suited her the best!
i really hope she'll come back to this concept sometime because it showcased her agenda perfectly. she has always been more on the androgynous/masculine side and this song shows exactly how well she can pull off a boy group esque concept, without making it a higher pitch or more girly. of course, there's nothing wrong with either of those things, i just want to see more songs like this from girl groups or female idols. even the more “girl crush” or “badass” groups like blackpink, everglow, etc are still not truly breaking any boundaries in terms of gender presentation and stereotypes.
YESSssss our talented hardworking Queen moonbyul
Moonbyul rap so very very fast she queen of rapper....!!!!!!
Moonbyul always try to break standard since day 1. Love that for her
I love how she helps write her songs! She's my favorite and I wish I could be her friend
Is really awesome to see people appreciating Moonbuyl's song and all the effort that she put it on more in an musical perspective. I hope more fans could see this and support her as mucha as they support the other members. Thanks for this and always ¡Moonbuyl FIGHTING! 🥰🥰
PS: she told that she wanted to make a song like this trying to do more like a boy group song performed by females just to proof she can do it too.
Good point about the contrast. The chorus could have hit harder.
I knew there was a reason Moonbyul caught my eye
moonbyul is legendary
If this was a boy group’s song, it probably would’ve been more successful. It deserves so much more because she killed it.
I cannot get over how good the editing is now. It really brings out everything in the reactors 😭
Moonbyul!!! 🥰 Can't wait for her next album
Let's give love to our Moonstar ❤❤
Could you react to krock band Onewe? They’re with RBW (Mamamoo) and they’re the brother group of kpop idol group Oneus. You heard right, she was supported by male vocalists Seoho (Oneus) and Yonghoon (Onewe). You can hear Yonghoon clearly from 4:41- 4:52. I think you would really like them from a musical and vocal perspective. Some suggestions from them: Regulus, Reminisce About All, A Book In Memory, End Of Spring, Parting etc. And like Mamamoo, they are phenomenal live.
I wonder if you will do a reaction for "Absence' since it has more isntrumental and i think is totally different to Eclipse, will you??
Yes to this!
oh yes please !!
Yeeesss
yes pls omg that song is everything!!
Yeeees, so happy to see people reacting to our talented Byul 🖤
I've always loved Moonbyul's vibe and voice. She can literally pull off any kind of sound. How can one be so perfect? How bizarre... 🤔
i really love how you introduce moonbyul to them!!!
She is the kind of person I want to be.Thank you for your react.
Moon is known for her deep voice. And i love that he said it was really put together. Love it because that is Mamamoo all together. They know who they are and what they want.
I'm really glad she continue to train her vocal lately 👍👍👍 she shouldn't stop at the first place..
I WAS LITERALLY WAITING FOR THIS AHHHHHH
Even if the music kinda has a taste of a usual boy group sound, she pulled it perfectly and made it her own. I love the sound
its so cool to see moonbyul being appreciated :)
also yall should react to mamamoo's killing voice
MOONBYUL 💘😭 i love how they pointed out that she owned a usually bg kind of sound and her artistry 🤧
Thank you for reacting I'm rlly learning a lot from you all. I'm a moomoo(MAMAMOO stan) and this makes us proud of her.
I was sooo happy for this!
Moonbyul has quite a strong voice, and she's not even a main vocal! Mamamoo is an all rounder girl group, they deserve more recognition internationally imo
That background add lips and high notes was seoho from oneus the young brothers to mamamoo
Moonbyul is so cool
I've been waiting for this!!!! Thanks guys
YES! I've been eagerly waiting for this one!
"When the moon covers the sun" - I think she added that line to troll her bandmate Solar. Since she is the Moon and her BFF is the Sun. HAHA
It comes FINALLY!!!!
Please react to Purple Kiss pre-debut single ‘My Heart Skip a Beat’ they’re a new girl group under RBW! They’re going to debut this year.
Girl in the peach shirt/highlight hair passed the Moonbyul vibe check 😌
You can also hear some higher notes near the end were made by Seoho from Oneus and Yonghoon from Onewe. And it all fits perfectly. Moonbyul out here showing women can keep up with the boys.
Thank you for doing this video. It’s my number 1 favourite song right now because of its rock undertones and Moonbyul.. just her lol
Would you ever do a reaction to Gain - Paradise Lost??
The most underrated artist
Woohoo thankyou for the video!
I love Yonghoon's adlib towards the end
YES MOONBYUL ❤️
MoonByul Oppaaaa
Super love it when music experts appreciate our moonbyul ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The intro totally remins me of G-Dragon. Love this! She brought it!
Really enjoyed this video especially with the explanation and song break down in the second half
She is ARTISTS indeed
what a great way to start the 2nd week of january
that guy read my mind about the chorus!! i wish it had built up more or a little less so the chorus would be very explosive huhuhu nonetheless i love eclipse, it doesn't get old and how much it means to byul, like,, she fought for that concept and she owns it! despite getting a lot of hate (from sk men lol). i just wish for her to do whatever she want with her music (and let her produce!! bcs she already can and she needs to have more control abt the songs) :(♡
Thank you for the 🌙🌟 react!!
Her voice actually fits ballad so much. But she does rap and she likes to break stereotypes with this kind of music.. SHE IS VERY DIVERSE!!🌟🌟
Woahh! Thank you so much for bringing this reaction to life, Umu and the gang. I hope moonbyul sees this video somehow. ❤️
Please react to Moon Byul's other solo songs. Among Moonbyul's solo songs, I want to introduce C.I.T.T and G999 first. Because I want to show Moon Byul playing better than anyone else on stage with a bright and exciting song that's the opposite of Eclipse. C.I.T.T definitely recommends the stage version.
C.I.T.T
