Oregano is one of those herbs that you can dehydrate very easily. The flavor remains strong like the fresh leaves and you can store it for well over a year. Gotta love it! Thanks for sharing this video 👍
WOWW my Oregano 1:09 & Thyme are trailing close to the ground & only a couple inches tall but spreading a good foot. They were new this year , but we had terrible drought & heat so watering with well water was a constant need. I still have my plant name stakes. Is this normal for 1st yr. Plants? 1:09
Hmm nice...but here in the U.K. my oregano never gets that tall, it is very low to the ground. Presumably the important thing is to use the bottom woody stem?
I think it would be the variety of oregano that would cause variance in its height not the place you or I are growing. And YES get that more mature stem for the propagation and it'll work just fine!
Sustainable Stace thanks, after I posted the comment I realised that it is spring here so the plants are very young and they do get taller in the summer...Doh! Oregano and marajam plants took over my garden after I planted one a few years ago. Then we got chickens and they wiped out my herbs except the rosemary but the oregano reappeared in our car park so I want to take cuttings and keep them in pots in my conservatory, away from the feathered fiends.
Do they get purple flowers? I bought some oregano yesterday and it looks like basil to me but it’s got purple flowers on it. I hope they gave me the right herb Cos they were not sure themself if it was oregano and it didn’t even have a label 🤦♀️
Your oregano looks great and I love using rooting hormone as it’s much faster and easier to take n grow new roots. Although I do like using other methods too, I love to try all ways of gardening. I can’t wait to have my own oregano growing, I should have done this ages ago. I did have a pot of oregano ages ago but it died (I think it was too cold and wet for it) so I’m going to make a heap plants so I have plenty of back ups. All my cuttings I am using to try and grow 🤞I will be using rooting hormone for most of them like u did and I will use the water method to grow some roots and then plant too. I may even try and see if it will grow without rooting hormone. Atm I have them all cut and ready sitting in some water to hydrate them as they were so dehydrated when I got them from the shop. They were in bad condition but seem okay enough to bounce back. A lot of their leave were not the best too some were black but I as long as I get some plants out of it the $5 is worth it. I got tonnes of small cuttings but they have flowers on some so that’s a worry to me as I don’t like propagating when they are flowering.
Oregano does get pinkish/purplish flowers. If you rub the leaves, the smell should give it away! Basil has much larger and more glossy leaves and makes me think of eating curry in Thailand (yum!) whereas oregano reminds me of pizza sauce (also yum!) and now I'm in Italy. I need to stop and go cook some food :)
Likely it will. I'd suggest you have some willow water (water that has pieces of willow wood sitting in it) at least so that you're increasing the odds of rooting.
Yes, I cut some and placed it in my garden during the day, so it got sun the rest of the day, and it rooted and has started to grow without the powder.
Great question. Generally, the stock or trunk of any plant stops growing when you cut it. It won't grow more in that location where it was topped. So, rather than it being able to grow up it now needs to re-direct energy to grow elsewhere. When you top the cutting in an effort to transplant it, the energy gets re-directed to growing roots!
Sir, thank you. I like your thinking, very few cultured people think about gifting plants and know the value of that gift, in my surrounding at least.

Thanks for sharing - so true!
its 4 years but still helpfull. thanks!
Glad it helped!
Gosh this looks so easy to do. Thank you. I will take some cuttings from our oregano plant as I would like to have a plant sale in a few months.
You're correct - it is so easy!
Thanks Bro, you are such a big big big help, Godbless, i'll see you more often🙏🙏🙏
You're very welcome - bless you in your gardening efforts!
My oregano is NOT an annual; it is Perennial. It has been spreading in my veg. Garden for eight years.
You're correct. Sometimes I make mistakes. It's a perennial!
What are those gorgeous purple flowers in front of your oregano? Great video by the way.
Yes, those are beautiful - that's thyme!

I like your 'Doh!'
Chickens are great - but they don't co-habit very well with veggies or herbs!
wow that was easy!!
I planted my cutting just today, I don't have the Root stuff, is that ok?
You will likely have success without the root stuff. please let us know - how did it go ?

Are the flowers edible?
Good question John - yes they are edible!
What kind of oregano is that? Mine looks like ground cover
I think mine is Italian - more leggy and longer stemmed. Greek, on the other hand, is often bushier. Perhaps that's what yours is.
Will it work without the rooting hormone?

Just did my very first oregano cutting today, couldn't help but to think of that old Digital Underground track, you know?
R.I.P. Shock G
What’s your garden zone?
Great question - we're in zone 7 on southern Vancouver Island in BC, Canada.
Can someone please tell me how does cutting the top help the plant?

@@SustainableStace thank you for the information 🙏
What variety of oregano are you growing in the video?
I'm growing Greek Oregano.
@@SustainableStace my Greek Oregano has come badk this year is it a biennial or a perennial?
