+Tevo77777 Hells yeah, RCO Green (Basically Kobra from ArmA 2) and any guns using the Kobra sight in ArmA 2 are my favorites, especially the AK107 because the recoil on that thing is basically nil.
dice was SOOO Lazy with attachments in BF4. Things like muzzle brakes and compensators are added on right over existing flash hider the gun comes with, it looks horrible. Little things like that and being able to change the reticle on the kobra sight would be sooo easy to implement/fix and would make the game amazing(not just the gameplay).
G'day Tim, You've got it all wrong buddy. You are NOT meant to loosen the central nut on the adjustment dials at all. Opposite to the '0' on the dials is a smaller screw that stops the dial from doing a full rotation. You are supposed to back this screw out, so the dial can be rotated non stop until intended POI is reached. This can all be done without opening the dial caps. Cheers!
'H' on the dial is "Down', 'B' on the dial is "Up" Низ - Down, Bottom, Верх - Up, Top, in Russian. Л(Лево) - Left, П(Право) - Right. Directions maybe not intuitive but they marked them with letters. But this adjustment with this tool doesn't look very comfortable anyway.
Man I just can't get enough of the aestethics of AK rifles haha I have no idea what I like about them so much, but they're just gorgeous. That Kobra sight is just the cherry on top. (Even though it looks like it's clunky as hell to zero it in, it's one rare sight you rarely see.) I never thought I'd see one in one of your videos, I'm glad you're liking it. Great video as always!
Thanks for making this video. I bought a Kobra about 15 years ago and couldn't get it sighted in because I couldn't read the manual. It's been sitting in the box for over a decade. Looking forward to sighting it in next time I go to the range.
+savage1r Try getting a decent prone or clearing your house with a 40 rounder. Those things were originally meant to be used with the light machine gun versions of the AK. Not very useful.
I'm going to help you to here if you ever have to rezero the optic or anyone that has one and doesn't know how to zero it. FIRST: set the dial on zero and CLOSE THE FLIP CAPS! SECOND: Use the 2 prong end of your tool loosen the lock nut as shown in the video. THIRD: use the single prong or flathead end of the tool to make your elevation and windage adjustments with the center screw (the one in the center of the lock nut) FOURTH: After zeroed tighten lock nut until you feel the dial move one click then open caps and apply a little torque to the lock nut using this simple method will ensure you get the proper zero without losing parts. you may have to open caps and hold the dial to first break free the lock nut but after you've loosened it enough that it spins without moving the dial close the flip caps and start the zeroing process
This is just awesome Tim, thanks a lot! Definitely a mod I will have for my AK one day I hate to admit how much I recognize firearms from video games, but you're definitely correct that this is an optic featured in many modern shooters.
We like this video Tim. Not because of the sight but because it shows your fun side and because you do not claim this is the best thing ever. You even poke fun at it's quirks. Good stuff.
@Mexico City While Putin said that the dissolution of the USSR was a geopolitical disaster, it doesn't mean he is quite supportive of communism, you fool. He himself has spoken against it. The point is that, russians are fond of the USSR era, yet many also manifest their patriotism by using old Russian Empire paraphernalia like the Romanov banner and coat of arms. Why? Because Russians are imperialists. Just as simple as that. Whether by the tsar's hand of under the soviet boot, they want their country to dominate and rule others. Just look at all thay "proletarian fraternity" dogshit preached by the USSR, just a pretense for russian expansionism, just ask the poles and ukrops. If territorial expansionism of the USSR was in order to spread the "proletarian revolution" just as Lenin said, then why the russification happened? Because it was never about ideology at all, it was about Russia dominating the other peoples of the USSR.
Russian optics are getting there. Ive got a pk-01 vs and it has 3000+ hours of life and 1.5 moa dot, built like a tank. Ive picked it over my old eotech and i havent regretted it, built like a tank and simple as it gets
There is a reason also why Russian SF use Kalashnikov Concern rifles as well. A decent optic is just a decent optic. I really don’t see the point in spending 690 bucks on an eotech and AK mount when my Kobra does the job just fine on any of my AK setups. Zeroed in at 100 meters a Kobra does the same dam thing as an eotech I really don’t see the point in spending well over half a grand on an optic and a separate rail mount.
Kobras look cool and have an awesome name.. but that's pretty much it. They are bulky, they obstruct a lot of the view, are a pita to calibrate... really crappy design. It's no surprise that you rarely used to see it in the Russian military / special forces, and certainly you won't see it anywhere these days. I would say it's fame is 99% due to video games and cool looks. If you want a traditional Russian (actually Belorussian) red dot try a PK-A. Way better in every single sense. But I would suggest a more advanced optic: PK-01V or even the "civilian" OKP-7 are really good traditional red dots. The PK-AA (so-called PK-A Venezuela) is even better. And on top of that, the PK-AS has an awesome lens technology that makes the shell disappear completely, making the illusion of the red dot (and his bigger CQB black circle) floating in thin air; the Obzor and Rakurs are also top quality and damn, they DO look Russian. Seriously, there are a lot of really good Russian optics that can compete with Aimpoints And Eotechs (PK-AS, Obzor and Rakurs) and personally I would say some of them are even better. Kobras are not.
+Facundo Corradini Yeah I got Rakurs-A too, perfect sight for $400 with tritium and even PK-AS is below 400 makes it more awesome than Kobra which is kinda known to be meh....
ZzBiohazzardzZ every Russian optic is build like a tank. Specially the Obzor, Rakurs and PK series.I can confidentially say they will stand the same abuse as an aimpoint. And that's A LOT of abuse
***** dafuq? PK-AS is a "always on" black dot and black circle. The dot can be illuminated in red, but even if the battery dies, you still have it "on" (black)
MAC, I have a technical suggestion. If you record audio from the lavalier mic (which you are wearing) and from the camera at the same time and mix it properly, we can hear you talk very clearly and also hear the shots impact on the steel target. Nice video btw!
I would love to see a durability test on that Optic. Its a super cool sight especially for AK guys. I just wonder how it stacks up durability wise against some American optics.
How is it without the sun shade? If I had the money for this optic, I'd probably take it off. I think it looks better without it. If there's any significant advantage to the shade/cover I'd leave it on. Just wanted to get your input. Great video as always, Tim!
I have the older AA version. Haven't used it much. Zeroing was a bit complicated due to lack of instructions at the time I bought it. When I get new Arsenal AK, I will take another look at Kobra.
Tim, you can use a dot with a chevron for 100-50yds on a 5.45 round. I have my Kobra sighted in at 100 with the dot, chevron will get you really close at 50yds.
There is a reason why the Chevron is offset to the bottom. If you adjust the KOBRA correctly it will be your aim mark for 300m (for 7,62x39mm). I think that should be also explained in the manual along with the intended use for the other reticles. If you need any advice or translation for future Russian sights feel free to message me.
Interesting. I am interested in this optic because I have been turned onto Russian cold war/Russian Federation stuff and would like to purchase one of the few remaining kobra's I have seen so I can put it on one of my akm's. I am wondering if it is user error and this optic while maybe being outdated, is still serviceable.
Packages by 20 or 40 rounds because they are designed for hunters, sportsmen and other civilians. Their carbines have magazines corresponds roominess. For the army, which is used the magazines by 30 or 45 rounds, ammunition supplied in tins by 660 or 720 rounds.
If your experience is anything like mine, don't use the Kobra when it is snowing! Snow collects in the trough through which the light is supposed to shine, rendering your sight inoperable.
I had one of these many years ago. The controls were in a different place and unfortunately, they were kind of brittle. The on/off switch just snapped off one day. I contacted the vendor and sent it back to see if the switch could be replaced but I never heard back from the vendor. Whatever, the iron sights work too. Disappointing though as I did have it dialed in pretty good.
In Russia by law as a civilian you can buy a rifle only for hunting with a factory limitation of 10-20 rounds. It's done with a small pin on a receiver which doesn't allow you to put a usual mag. However you can cut a small pease of plastic in order to make a mag fit to the rifle.
Tulammo... my first two round both split the case... the last one blew the whole back end of the case off and jammed in my 700. So I grabbed a new box and tried it in my M14... it blew apart as well cracked the back of the case and blew the primer out into my trigger group (found it when I was cleaning). Still trying to figure out how to dispose of this ammunition as I would never sell it to someone to ruin their firearms and I wouldn't run it in mine.
Have you seen the Tapco "slab side" burnt-orange-colored magazines? They are intended to look like Bakelite mags. I'm interested to see your test/review!
I have a complaint about BulK Ammo. com.. ORDERED some 45 ACP and it was factory re-manufactured. It would not feed. Upon a closer look, the projectiles were set so far back in the case that where the olgive starts, was into the case creating a round that had a "brass lip / edge" that would prevent feeding. The would not take a return on the ammo. I no longer deal with them or lucky gunner since they were, maybe still are, the same company.
i wonder if the reason the dot is the brightest is because the diode has to sort of "disperse" more of it's power over the bigger reticles. i'm not sure if that's how it works but sort of makes sense to me
Great video! I bought my Kobra way back in 2002 and paid $150 for it. New in the camo case with all the stuff. It's currently on a Romanian SAR2 (AK-74 type). I wouldn't mind having a few more lol. I prefer the dot and that's what I use the most.
The T reticle is in my opinion THE BEST illuminated combat reticle there is because it doesn't obstruct the target's image but still allows you to know where you're aiming.
I like the 40 round box because the 20 round box was 5.50 at walmart. The 40 round box is just under 10 bucks. If the 40 round box bothers you that much, use a 40 round mag.
+deutschphantom Just remember to re-zero if you visit the arctic. Eotech's issues are more with how they lied about the capabilities of their sight and how they tried to sneak a fix as an upgrade than an indictment of the sight itself.
I really like the rifle. Am considering buying this same gun but in 5.45 x 39. I don't like the optic at all. Much too complicated. Thanks for an informative video.
+Military Arms Channel During this video, you had just said, "I took it off, you don't want to do that"... I started laughing at this point because I KNEW you HAD to drop a small part. Its how the world works. AND you were standing over a season's worth of leaves and you should have walked the pieces back to your sXs. I am really glad you found the dropped parts. The reason i laugh is that I would have lost them forever. I know because I've been in this position many times and lost many little parts. I know better now. "Because I'll wind up loosing this out here. And we'll hear just how unfamily friendly this channel can become..." (pretty close to quote) So how much of the show did you have to edit out? ROFL ;)
i picked up a used kobra a few years back with a 1913 flip mount built in. it was used so i got it for $200 straight up. i put it on my ACR seems to be a good fit.
+LordStickMax well, due to our currency dropped, along with the oil - new kobra costs about 130-150$. not in states however, here. But I doubt it costs twice the price to get in in States.
Anton Comrade he just said it was $399 retail for this setup. mine was used and was just the sight. im sure we're getting ripped off but thats what happens when you want imports. thanks for info though.
Seems like a lot of money for an optic that's kinda expensive, not easy to adjust, has lots of easy to lose parts and possibly no warranty service stateside. Would complete the look of your AK, but is it worth it?
5 boxes of cartridges this is 8 mags. 8 mags it is full set of regular soldier's ammunition. that's why 40 cartridges in one box. additionally the size of this box is standard for army metal box.
+Punisher1990 the worst part is that youtube is mainly viewed by 13-16 year old girls and wimpy guys. sometimes I wish it was just taken down, along with the entire internet. I may be in my mid-twenties, but I grew up roaming my neighborhood on my bike and playing in the woods..those days are long gone..what a shitty society we will encounter
Star Kicker Kids nowadays may not roam neighborhoods on their bikes, but there are as many good things about this generation. It isn't worse or better, just different.
+Wedelj I disagree, people are way less hands-on and aren't figuring things out for themselves. The Internet has dumbed people down and I think group-think is very high. I see our western society polarizing, instead of thinking clearly with good sense. Too many people are acting with passion instead of rational thought. There is a reason all these mass murders have only happened in the last decade. It's a generational thing.
Actually the Russian military are using the Abzor culminating holographic sight, which is Russian and on par with an Acog. It is widely used in the Ratnik system. Use of western optics is few and far between.
I personally think the okp-7 Russian optic is better than the cobra but I have yet to see any videos on it as I think there is a very small amount of them in the U.S
Hi Military Arms Channel, I'm very new to the gun world and I'm thinking of buying a Kobra sight. Is it normal that the top dial does not make the clicking sound? thanks

+Andrey Skorokhodov I would consider that sight for $30-$50, but sure as hell not $400!

Thanks for making this video. I bought a Kobra about 15 years ago and couldn't get it sighted in because I couldn't read the manual. It's been sitting in the box for over a decade. Looking forward to sighting it in next time I go to the range.
Get 40 round magazines, problem solved.
+savage1r Why not buy 3 boxes?
I'd rather buy 25 boxes.
+savage1r Try getting a decent prone or clearing your house with a 40 rounder. Those things were originally meant to be used with the light machine gun versions of the AK. Not very useful.

using this simple method will ensure you get the proper zero without losing parts. you may have to open caps and hold the dial to first break free the lock nut but after you've loosened it enough that it spins without moving the dial close the flip caps and start the zeroing process
This is the correct method, No loosening up the locking nut and lifting and repositioning the dial like shown in video
This is just awesome Tim, thanks a lot! Definitely a mod I will have for my AK one day
I hate to admit how much I recognize firearms from video games, but you're definitely correct that this is an optic featured in many modern shooters.

My heart dropped when you yelped at the dropped pieces! Glad you found it!
I really enjoyed the little bit of humor that was in this vid. People really like that stuff, so keep it up.
Solution to the 40 round box problem. Buy 3 boxes at a time, so you can fill 4 mags evenly!

Your AK now looks WICKED!!!!
Its good if youre five feet away
I would imagine that the T reticle would be great for cqb but if it's farther then fifty feet I think it would hinder more then help
+UnleashTheBlob thats about combat range nowadays because alot of fighting is done in urban areas
I don't think we got an accurate picture of how small the reticle actually is. Or it's just this optic
I bet the chevron/dot reticle is for a holdover at really close range to compensate for the crazy amount of sight to bore offset you get with AK's
Man I was thinking the same think about those Tula boxes. Easy when you're loading two mags with three boxes, but annoying when you have extras.
Is that a Daewoo in the back of your truck? A review of that would be awesome
I like the 40 round box because the 20 round box was 5.50 at walmart. The 40 round box is just under 10 bucks. If the 40 round box bothers you that much, use a 40 round mag.
Why does it sound like he's shooting suppressed? Maybe the blast is so loud the mic doesnt pick it up due to distortion?
If you buy three of the 40's you can fill four mags so double the mags compared to three boxes of 20's
More cool points for Daewoo and the red dot was also pretty cool.
I see why they use aimpoints these days lol
+deutschphantom Just remember to re-zero if you visit the arctic. Eotech's issues are more with how they lied about the capabilities of their sight and how they tried to sneak a fix as an upgrade than an indictment of the sight itself.
+Jacob Whittaker still want one just because it looks sick as fuck
yeah, I agree. That thing looks pretty crude and cheap.
+Scott Spencer
Besides there is weigth and short battery life.
An AK, and a 7th gen Corolla. You sure do love reliability.
Did you not show the chevron+dot reticle? Aw.
i got a pvs01. works very well its decent/good enough for day time shooting out here with bright deserts. uses AA
I really like the rifle. Am considering buying this same gun but in 5.45 x 39. I don't like the optic at all. Much too complicated. Thanks for an informative video.
For anyone that loses it that detent is a 3mm ball bearing
that thing is soviet as fuck.
ROFL ;)
The more and more I watch the channel the more I want to buy an AK.
Do you still have that LH9? How's it holding up? Any chance we could see a torture test on it?
how is that Kobra after all these years? I thinking of getting one.
Who owns that Daewoo? ... hopefully mac would make a video on that rifle
i picked up a used kobra a few years back with a 1913 flip mount built in. it was used so i got it for $200 straight up. i put it on my ACR seems to be a good fit.
Colemanator: that's the Terminator with the cooler in it's chest right?!? lol. Great vid as always.
PK-AS always intersted me. Etched reticle, and then illuminated dot when you want it. dot and circle
Thank you sir for uploading
What!?!?!?!? you got a tool with yours?? When I bought my Pk-01vs it did not come with a tool... now I feel left out.
So if its raining or snowing do you just take the sight off, having the emitter exposed seems like it would create reliability problems
although some people diss the kobra, I did get a small semi when you latched it onto that gun .
He he, that was funny about Tula. :) I was there several times and I don't like that town. But the arsenal museum is great!
Instagram...? Tim, you're the manliest 16 year old girl I've ever seen hahaha.
+P226nut Instagram is where it's at, for now. Eventually they will go full-Facebook on the gun community there, but until then it's a free-for-all.
+P226nut And here I thought it was an excuse to check out chicks that squat lol.
Wky didn't you review the Krebs AK103k-s?
Question for you. Where did you get the Daewoo K2???
Actually the Russian military are using the Abzor culminating holographic sight, which is Russian and on par with an Acog. It is widely used in the Ratnik system. Use of western optics is few and far between.
I just realized, is that a Daewoo K2 in the back of your truck?
I personally think the okp-7 Russian optic is better than the cobra but I have yet to see any videos on it as I think there is a very small amount of them in the U.S
Another great video. Best gun channel on youtube!
I'd love to see some more Primary Arms reviews. Particularly the 5x acss prism scope.
It seems like you could have avoided a lot of trouble by zeroing (or at least boresighting) in a shop or at a bench instead of in the field.
Hi Military Arms Channel, I'm very new to the gun world and I'm thinking of buying a Kobra sight. Is it normal that the top dial does not make the clicking sound?
thanks
Thanks MAC.
Mac wondering why you didn't go to 2016 Shot show?
+Difm Tac65 I'm here man, I'm here... Just finished up.
Full30 here I come
Mac, I'm surprised you posted this video. I fully expected you to be rummaging through your couch cushions for spare change to pony up for that DMR SCAR that IV8888 just did a video on lol. Just kidding, no I'm not.
That mag isn't bakelite, it's a type of fiberglass or something like that.
