    BEWARE THE DROPPED BALL!
    That was drubbed into me in the 1960’s. (Same age as King Wally and Wayne “Junior” Pearce.)
    Everyone gets thrown off balance when the ball hits the ground. That first try came from not one, but two fumbles in a row. It breaks the defence as often as a chip kick does…and I don’t know why. But it does.

  • @thewayback7
    @thewayback7 Месяц назад +19

    Billy was sucked into playing Ponga because QLD had some success throwing it wide and running NSW around in the 2nd game. But game 3 is like a grand final, everyone lifts, the defence is tighter, so that wide running game plan doesn’t have the space to work.

      Luai has proved that he is a handful with the ability to play structured and unstructured play in a way that threatens the opposition. I don't like his swagger but their are parts to his personality that are genuine. I am a Qld'er so that is a compliment. At the moment it is Moses before Cleary because he has the best long kicking game. next year Luai will be playing halfback so there might be three to chose from. Queensland desperately need a strong centre to match Mitchell or Best. They also need one or two big forwards to comeback in order to strengthen the middle. Only when they plug that gap will the fast players come into their own. You have to earn the right by what you do in the middle. Queensland must generate a better kicking game. One good kick and chase changes the game. Thurston did it. ( If Australia can ever get a Union side as good as the All Blacks then Union can be as good as League)

    If all 3 are fit and playing well, I'd expect Madge to pick Cleary 7, Moses 6 and Luai 14. Cleary's defence, kicking game (esp. short), and organisation are made to fit Madge's style. The amount of height and length allows the chasers to get downfield further. The stats seem to back this up. Look at where Qld started most of their sets. Cleary is long and accurate, but he does not get as much air as the other two. Both of the tries on Wednesday came from unbroken play. Qld had an answer for the structured plays. Moses was the best player in game 2 and he was instrumental in closing the gate in game 3. he is exceptional, and I am a Q'lander who does not follow Parramatta.

Would like to see stats him vs Edwards, he is not a worker.Kick game is too short , lacking go forward especially wingers and centres from kick return. Guys in the middle dug deep but cant match blues. Hamma is a freak natural runner but was in effective under the pump. Deardon stood up impressive. Cant rely on rub of the green need to physically dominate first then go to players. If you cant dominate or equal in the centre , play makers nullified .
