With is very important for legit shiny hunters. . And 2 the Pokedex keep track on how many Pokemons you have battled from the same mons. And so keep track of you shiny odds. Also i think the breeding Pokemon where more fun and better odds... Still working on getting all different colored shiny forms of alcremie....so sword and shield still lifes very much

Honestly, i think both games are amazing. The Galar region is my favourite region (only con is that it doesn’t have Furret), and the major battles in sword and shield felt like you were really in a stadium with lots of people watching you. however, scarlet and Violet are also great games. there are still many areas in the paldea region that i haven’t had the chance to explore yet, and you might not even be aware that some of the areas even exist if you don’t explore.

There's nothing of note in the overworld other than the stakes that seal the legendaries, talking to npc's in towns doesn't give you anything anymore and you can't even enter houses. I'm baffled you say that you played swsh by just walking in a straight line and press A, and then claim SV is the game that has content, content to you apparently means empty stretches of land?

I only found Stow-on-Side and Ballonlea great and better than SVs best - but SV's are overall _far_ better. Alfornada and Cascarrafa are gems! Wow, you really hit the nail on the head about the nasty cycle us unfortunate Pokémon fans have found ourselves in nowadays. Every new gen it's always "oMg, ThE nEw PoKeMoN aRe So BaD! iT cOuLdN't GeT aNy WoRsE!" and then the gen after that comes out and rinse and repeat. It stinks.
Although, I just can't say I agree with following pokémon being "done right" this time. What do they even do differently? They're the exact same slow and sluggish clumps of dead weight they were in Sw&Sh because I guess some twisted mf at Game Freak HQ genuinely expects everyone who plays these games to do so exclusively at walking speed. If they can't keep up with the running speed of a child then it will never be "done right." LGP&E still did it best!
Also, another thing you didn't bring up was the customisation options, which Sc&Vi completely NEUTERED. Genuinely, _what happened?_ It's even more baffling after Sw&Sh, easily the most customisable Pokémon games to date! You get like 4 outfits and that's it. I'm legit envious.
Also also, they should have kept going into houses, I don't care if it's nonsensical, a billion other games have done it before Pokémon and nobody cared. It would have made the cities feel so much more alive and bustling than the wastelands we ended up getting. Oh, wait a minute, they actually WERE supposed to be in the game, there are models of home interiors in the game's files, they just ran out of time, we have documented proof of this!
Again, fantastic video that hits a lot of points but there is still a LOOOOOONG road ahead. I hope and pray on the next Nintendo system they bring their A game this time.

There are just a few things I would've liked to make this game even better:
    1. Level scaling after each gym or some similar event so that trainers and pokemon become stronger. I just can't fighting trainers that have pokemon 10 or so levels lower. It just takes the challenge out of it.
    2. More trainers dotted throughout the land. And smarter AI.
    3. I love the let's go feature but it would be better if you can ev train using this method. Just like how the pokemon will avoid defeating shinies, you can select a certain stat in the menu, and then the pokemon will only attack those that give those repective evs.
    4. And one last thing - BRING BACK shiny sparkles and/or sounds!

I got Pokemon Sword on boxing day 2019. It was my safe haven during the mess that was 2020. My mess started on the 2nd of that January. I remember shiny hunting via online raids. The game itself didn't crash, and the bugs were tolerable.
The day before Pokemon Scarlett/Violet launched, I tested positive for cov!d. I convinced my fiance to get the game for me. When I had the energy to play Violet, the game kept crashing. I lost a shiny Voltorb because of the frequent crashes. The lag was terrible and preferred to play Legends Arceus.
So, in summary: one game was my safe haven while the other reminds me of a rough experience.

Everyone knows that they are some of the easiest fans to please fans in the🌎. Pointing out the flaws in the games is just as important as mentioning the good stuff in it. I'm not biased towards any game but Sw/Sh had these despite being a prev Gen game over SV:-
    1.Set Battle mode(We had this since the 1st game-Red & Blue)
    2.Ability to turn off Battle:Animations
    3.Player Customization
    4.Better gym puzzles

It had the things that mattered to me, like character clothing and customization, I liked Max Raids better because you could solo even the toughest ones, I liked the Pokemon designs better (Obstagoon is a W design), SS didn't look as empty as SV (probably because Game Freak is new to this open world thing) and most importantly, Sword and Shield had a homely atmosphere and the stadium fights were awesome, with the crowd cheering and a W stadium soundtrack. Also the gimmick had special forms, which made it much more enjoyable (and honestly I think Terastallization is a good mechanic but makes the pokemon look goofy ahh).

I really love scarlet and violet, in terms of story I feel is the best any pokemon game has done. I understand people love Black and White, but I feel like outside of N, the other characters aren't on the same level.
Penny while we didn't see much of her, I found really compelling the lenghts she is ready to go for her friends; she decided to take the fall for them, and when she realized they could get expelled, took serious measures in order to try to save them, even going as far as breaking the law and the team that she created and adored.
Nemona I feel is the first friendly rival that I can truly understand and get behind; we had a lot of these rivals who will praise you and never be mad when they lose, and it never felt that reallistic when it happened, even when I liked characters like Hau. But in Nemona? Fuck it not only it makes sense, it mimics the experience a lot of players had, of wanting to face a challenge because it just feels way too easy now.
It makes sense why she is so happy that you are beating her, because not only she loves battling, she is excited at the idea of someone who can finally give her that challenge. I had seen many people doing the Indigo Disk, and being delighted at how much more strategic and difficult is the game; heck I include myself in those, I used to hate double battles but DLC really made me open my eyes in terms of possibilities.
And Arven, the darling of this game. I have NEVER seen the pokemon community get so passionate about doing a storyline in pokemon. Like you will have the world ending time and time again, and is like yeah, sure, wahtever, but you put a sick dog on the line? MOTHERFUCKER YOU CAN COUNT WITH MY AXE, WITH MY BOW, I WILL BE YOUR ENTIRE ARMY.
The fact that you can see where he is coming from; why he is so grumpy and why he is kind of reticent about trusting other people. He is a genuinely sweet guy who had a rough time in life and you feel for him. Something I saw among a lot of people is how they went for disliking or hating him, to becoming their favorite character, and that's quite an achievement in my opinion.
And there are a lot of side characters who are lovely and full of personality. Clavell is a gem of a characters that has lots of charm, and I think everyone good laugh or two with him. Is impossible to not love at least one of the gym leaders, Larry is for SURE one of the most iconic gym leaders in all pokemon history. While not mandatory, the side story with the faculty of school is nice, and the classes can be truly useful for many people.
And I feel in terms of antagonist, Rose vs AI Turo/AI Sada is like that meme of hydrogen bomb vs coughuing baby. In terms of antagonist Rose couldn't be more of a joke if you tried; it was suppose to be a "good man who is misguided," but his logic was beyond stupid (SPECIALLY considering Leon told the guy they would do it tomorrow, seriously was it going to kill him wait for an hour to do that crap?) but despite seeing the way more than AI Turo or AI Sada, I feel the time with him was wasted; it didn't amount to much and much less understanding what was his deal.
The AI on the other hand? Holy shit even a year later, I still get chills when I see the "Please, defeat me." Now THAT'S an antagonist who is good but does bad things that I can get behind; unlike Rose's crap, I can completely understand where the AI is coming from. It knows that what is happening is wrong, but it is an AI so they can only do so much about it, and even when their program is forcing to, you can see for a brief moment when the text is glitching that the AI doesn't want to do this.
In terms of storytelling and emotion, that ending in Area Zero was more weight that the entirety of Sword and Shield.
And not gonna lie, the fact that this is the first pokemon game where you can truly go at your own pace is amazing; not bush that is stopping you from progressing, not a bunch of psyducks that refuse to move; I go where I want, whenever I want that.
I don't know how many people would remember this, if they played the game, but in diamond and pearl (and maybe also in platinum? not sure,) on the town with the second gym, there would be a moment where not only it wouldn't let you travel to the next place (which was pretty normal on the games,) it would also NOT let you go back, some kid NPC would tell you that you need to do something and refuse to even go where you were before.
I love pokemon games and I had been playing for over a decade, but it was always annoying that at some point it would just refuse you let you go to the next town unless you did the next story beat; because if you don't want to do that next story beat? Well sorry, you are out of luck buddy.
I also feel that even the people who aren't interested in the story benefit from this because deciding when you want to do that story beat to progress makes the entire thing a lot more bearable than when you are forced. Sure, when you get to a specific place the screen will go to black and show you the next beat, but once that's over? You can just go the other way around and do your thing.
I also like that it doesn't do that thing it did in Sword and Shield that if you found a pokemon who was too strong, will refuse you to let you catch it. Sure, it will still not listen to you, but I find that reasonable (since they don't want you to get a high level pokemon and breeze the rest of the game.)
Is the level scalling an issue? Yes, is also an issue that there is no way to know the order you are suppose to do things unless you look online? Yes, big time. But overall, I really adore this games, bugs or not, the story and exploration is more than enough to make it my favorite.
Fuck this really got long, this is why you can't let an autistic/adhd person write a comment.

Although I love bw2, I agree. Ghetsis and Hugh are probably my favorite characters from the games, but sv’s story is up there. Definitely better then gen 1, because im always hearing genwunners complain about how shit sv is when rby was just beat gym, beat million dollar mafia who has no reason to be evil or stealing pokemon, and catch the abomination on cinnabar island. You cannot tell me rby is even remotely entertaining now in the 21st century.

I’ll admit I do think it’s fun to poke fun at the modern pkmn games as I’m not a huge fan of them in general, but as someone who absolutely hated gen 8, it was definitely confusing to hear people prefer SWSH over SV. Idk maybe I’m judging too soon as I only recently bought the game so I’m not too far into it yet, but so far what I have played has been enjoyable at least compared to SWSH. Think this will be the last PKMN game I buy for while though. Unless I hear that the next game that comes out is undeniably amazing I’m forced to check it out and buy it.

I'd say the biggest downgrade going from Sword and Shield to Scarlet and Violet was the trainer customization. The customization in Sword and Shield was peak; I genuinely felt for the first time like my character fully represented me. They literally just had to keep that system as it was going forward and no one would complain. What did they do instead? School uniforms. Stupid school uniforms.
But that's a minor nitpick at the end of the day; the rest of the game, performance issues notwithstanding, is great.

I honestly agree with this sentiment. SwSh was pretty fun as is, but I never really felt the want to replay it. I just mainly spent time breeding competitive Pokémon and ev training them once the story was done. On a side note, I will say that I much prefer breeding and ev training in SwSh than SV since it’s more straightforward and non-taxing.
But other than that, I’d say SV clears it in just about every way. It feels great exploring the open region, choosing your own route is a fun time, and the story is leagues ahead. Also, I’d say I’m part of the 1% that barely experienced any bugs in my playthrough. Sure, I got stuck a few times and had to respawn afterwards, but that was the worst it got. Plus, not only is shiny hunting (and later on mark hunting) fun, but I can see quite a few different playthrough ideas for the games.

As one of the few people who enjoyed Sw/Sh on launch, I feel like there's a lot to address when comparing the games fairly
First off, while at launsh gen 8 was given a lot of flak for it's problems, S/V is in a similar situation itself, at least in terms of having the same dex size of 400, and received a fair amount of criticism in the beginning
Next, I'll address the regional mechanics between the two. Now, up frn, Dynamax was an absurdly strong mechanic, and yes Zard was a menace in the vgc. On the flipside, what about the menaces that came from S/V? No mention of a certain legendby the name of Chi-yu who broke singles and was a major feature of doubles? So in terms of mechanics, both are wildy unbalanced in their own way, if you take the time to look at both formats
Next point, the Dynamax raids. Since the video did everything to ignore Tera raids, I'll bring them up in comparison to the methods of Sw/Sh.Gen 8 kept a functioning turn order, and managed to keep the raids reasonably challenging for the point of the game you're at. As for Tera raids? It'd benice if they actually functioned, the more atb system causes so may bugs in an online setting, to thepoint where getting softlocked is very likely. This is a huge problem, since multiplayer is the selling point of S/V, but if the very feature only functions 1/3 of the time, is it really fair to say it's a notable feature deserving of hype?
As for the story, while Sw/Sh has more going on under the hood than was mentioned, there are many little things that could be brought up, but one thing worth mentioning is that this entry has a champion who was actually doing a tn of meaningful work, you know, as a champ should. The prime example is during the whole pokemon are dynamaxing out of control mid story. And while I found a good amount of S/V's story to be fine outside of Nemona the Yandere who gives me the creeps, the story itself is sort of forced into a single railroaded path, in thanks to the choice of static levels for each beat, leaving the options to follow the railroad, or be criminally overlevelled just to follow the path you want to take, making it as much of a straight line as Sw/Sh despite being "open world"
I think I feel like this point should be made, but having a bunch of memorable and very enjoyable set of gym leaders has never really been a Pokemon thing, sure there are those people will come to like, but outside of Sinnoh, it's the norm for gym laders to be an unexplored venue, so while it's nice for S/V, it's not as much of a fair comparison to make
I'm also gonna sdd this, S/V worked off of Legends: Arceus' mechanics, but didn't bring back the mechanic to catch pokemon without entering battle, so it's gone back on some of the established innovation we had prior (but at the end, this won't be factored for final thoughts)
I won't deny that Tera is potentially the best mechanic competitively, as the market is chock full of wildly unbalanced mechanics, but seeing how many mons caused a centralizing meta in singles on multiple occasions, I think it's best to leave making the choice alone
As mentioned in the vid, performance is king here, the fact that a year in and S/V is still performing very poorly is a crime, it's the only switch Pokémon game to run so consistently. Also, in light of having "something to play", a game that risks undoing hours of progress due to one of the many times the game gets softlocked loading, so having to redo the same something really works against it
Since a lot of points are repeated from here on, I can safely give my final thoughts here. S/V doesn't dominate Sw/Sh in the slightest, and while Gen 8's content may not be as rich, being able to play it makes Sw/Sh a game that can be enjoyed, although it's not to say that S/V is greatly worse. The two games in my eyes have a decently small gap between them, but due to my own experiences with frequent crashes, the edge will be for the gen 8 games
Thanks for listening to this Ted talk, and now to vanish into the wind for a nap.

Also SwSh has vastly better music, and the Dynamax raids are so much better than Tera raids which don’t even function properly half the time. The designs in SwSh are just a tad bit better as well. SwSh was really fun, but SV does improve vastly on so many things that in my opinion SV has the edge over SwSh. Plus SV storylines were such an improvement for the series and were very heartfelt, they were good stories.

I love the deep part in the end lol. I have actually seen both good and add parts from both games. There many things i like from both Like the camp in SwSh witch was so much cute and interactive then SVs picknicks. And I think SwSh defenetly looks better even with the wild area. And I could go on about that. But SV had the best Story of any main line pokemon game witch made me cry several times and amazing fun ways to help and make compedative better. As a player who started with ranked, a few Tornaments and most of comedative is in SwSh. And Terra is less bad ass, but wow its fun to mess around with. I have so much fun with it. And the new items are so fun. There are a new few nitpicks that thy removed like th availability to remove and change items in the battle stadium part then u choose your teams. And if accidentally or intentionally pressing battle again in the link battles u can't regret it and go back and have to wait for your opponent to leave or keep playing witch many times are afk so I gotta turn of my Internet to get of from that screen.
But all and all I love both games. And can't wait for the next part of the dlc and hope the motshi reddits and discords starts again so we actually can farm motchi. For Me:
    Love:
18 "gyms" - even though there was no scaling, each one has its own challenges. Iono's team is surprisingly tough to match up against. Most of the gym leaders had decent teams that had interesting type coverage even if some of them could just be swept (more an issue of the single battle format)
Story - one of the first times that I didn't just mash A through the entire thing.
Pokemon Diversity / targeted pokemon searching- due to being open world, it's fun to make a cool diverse team of new pokemon or pokemon that you usually don't get until much later. Sandwiches are much better than time travel for getting certain pokemon to spawn. Also union circle pokemon spawns means completing the pokedex is possible with a single game cartridge.
Terrastalization - best mechanic since megas that actually changes teams and you can make interesting choices.
Challenging DLC - Most challenging additions were added in the 'third version', which i'm lumping into the dlc here. BB academy can easily wipe you if you're not thinking through your team / comp. the Dragon trainer wiped me and I had to actually make my team to counter the issues I had.
    Meh:
New evolution gimmics - sorry but Palafin and the walking evos were a pain since palafin isn't really foreshadowed, and the walking evos you couldn't check how close you were and the reset points were hidden.
No level scaling - I would like the challenges to be scaled like we saw in the Pokemon origins anime.
forgettable e4 - I'd like to have seen a better e4 that's harder to sweep like the BB e4's teams just in singles (held items, strategy..etc).
    dislike:
World is 'big' but not 'full' - some sections seemed to be too large and empty. The ruins don't really have a reason to be there, trainer placement seemed random.
random trainers location - I get wanting to explore, but the random trainers are basically vestigial to this game.

There's no real performance issues though. Just mild frame rates which are easily fixed by moving closer and maybe a mild clipping error which is easily resolved by moving your camera upward more

I can assure you majority bugs have been patched, and all the serious ones were from the early launch of the game. Only issues with performance is the occasional lag, but it’s usually not anything major and how slow online raid battles can be sometimes, but I heard gf is going to fix it around the epilogue event.

I think the only things I can give to SWSH is Hop, the IDEA of Eternatus (Eternatus was really good in concept, poorly executed), and how really good some of the main battle team compositions were (namely Leon), but even so SV managed to outdo SWSH in each of those aspects. Amazing rivals, stunning legendary lore, and actually well made teams which made for some really good fights

I see, this is a copium video, the sad truth is Pokemon S/V could have been better for what came before it. I think Pokemon S/V is an amazing game but Pokemon SwSh had something amazing, an actual bad guy. Pokemon S/V didn't have an evil team, team Star wasn't evil just a bunch of kids fighting bullies only to end up looking like bullies. How is that supposed to be a "world ending" threat? Plus this is important to push the story, there literally was nothing, a simple conversation would have solved that problem. While in Sword/Shield, the legendary Dogs were part of the mayhem that was the bad guys stupid goals, the story of the "Darkest Day" was so cool and discovering lore that it wasn't a single hero but a pair of Pokemon was great. While in Scarlet and Violet our PROFESSOR was our bad guy but not because they were dead but an AI robot was on auto mode. This was simply stupid, how adults that were using Pokemon long before the protagonist doesn't get permission to go to the most dangerous point of the region with NO ADULT SUPERVISION. That's just dumb, and I refuse to just "not think too much about it", someone should have went with them. Also I prefer giant cool pokemon than silly hats as a gimmick, however, I will agree changing your type whenever is so very cool and better in every way. But this put people in a vacuum as you only see the same Pokemon being used with the same type change selection, at Pokemon SwSh selected a few Pokemon to have Gmax.

I agree with you so much. Yes SV is/was glitchy, but literally every single Pokemon generation people find something to complain about. It's always never good enough for them. Then immediately when the next generation comes out, they'll compare the newest two, and they'll always say the older one was better. Every single time. When the next generation comes out after SV, just wait and see. People will be like "Oh, but SV had this feature and blank doesn't"

Issue is, pokemon can’t really spend 5 years developing a game before fans get sick of it and started complaining and bashing on gf, so i think they have to run on a tight 3 year schedule. However, I don’t understand why they couldn’t of just done what they did with arceus, but make sv seem more modern.

i like both games, but its scarlet/violet > sword/shield. SV are top 4 pokemon games for me, would probably be higher if it wasnt for the performance issues. that being said, i do still have 600+ hours on SwSh.
to me, SwSh’s character designs are immaculate. the character themselves might be 1 dimensional/boring/non existent, but the designs are clean af. the customization in SwSh is better imo, being stuck in uniforms for SV kinda hurts ngl, hoping indigo disk adds better customization.
the wild area deserves a bit more credit, it was a precursor to open areas. open world might be more fully realized in SV and PLA, but it was still an “innovation” in SwSh. i know it wasnt mentioned for the sake of fairness, but the crown tundra does a lot of heavy carrying for SwSh. giving us another new open area to explore and dynamax adventures does add some replay value. the indigo disk does look promising, so this last part could be ignored.
