There’s a brilliant amount of cohesion with the first movie. Tonally, aesthetically and even with the pacing, it felt like a natural progression of events after the original film. Definitely the best movie I’ve seen in theatres so far this year!
One of my favourite things about this movie other than everything Dan just said, is the fact people were actually silent the entire time!! Very notable during parts with hardly any sound. No murmurs, whispers or even hearing people snacking! If only all trips to the cinema could be exactly like this :P
Love the review Dan! Seeing this on the Lincoln Center IMAX this weekend (it's like the biggest IMAX in the state). This will be my 10th movie since theaters reopened, I can't get enough!
This was my second movie back in the theater. And it was an interesting combination of two movies. The first one was 'De Slag om de Schelde'. Which is a WW2 movie that tried to tell a story through three different groups of characters and didn't quite succeed at making the three threads work together. Which is exactly what this movie does really well. So that was a really interesting contrast for me.
Dan, I was really looking forward to this review. I have learned to trust in your appraisal of film these past few years when I was first introduced to Screen Junkies. Thank you so much for sharing your passion of story telling through current times. You are much appreciated.
Here in Seattle I've gone to the theater whenever they opened. In October/November we watched Empty Man and Honest Thief. They closed again after that. Since February we've gone to whatever is available. People must not realize that during this lockdown theaters have been the best they've ever been. Almost no one has been in there, you have the whole place to yourselves! Today we watched this film, and it was pretty packed. While I am personally disappointed, I am happy for the theater. Also, good review and good film!
I didn't love the first one, but this sequel is the thrill ride I think most of us have been waiting to experience on the big screen. I'm rooting for another one!
I honestly didn't even notice the actors aging! I knew they most likely had aged, but not once while watching the movie did it distract me. They did an amazing job all around in this film. IMAX showing was great!
First movie back! Was not disappointed. Glad I was able to avoid spoilers going in. I did want to see more of some characters and their stories. Maybe that will be in part 3.
Saw it last night and have tickets to see it with friends on Monday! I think this is the best sequel ever made this movie is phenomenal highly recommend seeing it in theaters!!!!
Agree with so much of your thoughts as usual Dan! Would not be as excited for a sequel though. This was good, but not as good as first. Worry about law of diminishing returns.
Glad you recommend it. Now, I’m buying a ticket and seeing it today! I forgot it was supposed to come out last March, so it’s appropriate this is my first theater experience back since then.
Watched this movie last night in the theater with a live q&a with Krasinski afterwards. Not sure if this has been officially announced by anybody but he did say there will be a part 3 and that Jeff Nichols will be helming which I am crazy stoked for.
Thought it was about on par with the first movie, although it was noticeable that Krasinski’s presence as an actor was missing outside of the opening “prequel” scene.
Finally watch it! I was waiting in the mail after buying on BF & i got that same emotional feeling from the first, but lil bit amped up. Hopefully 3rd have new creatures & more horrifying.
Kudos to Krasinski for another fun night at the movies. The day 1 sequence at the opening was incredible! My only gripe was the somewhat abrupt ending. We got a climax, but no falling action or resolution.

the movie was solid, however still had some plotholes and stupid decisions. Namely from the boy wondering round on his own in the factory. Also surely the people on the island would have a training plan in case the alien ever arrived like knowing to stay silent/not moving etc., instead they were running around and screaming. Also I noticed there were times when no one was making any noise and the alien knew exactly where they were like the radio station /bunker at the end, which took me out of it a bit.
Are you feeling OK Dan? What's going on with the bright red lips and skin pallor? Did the wife overdue it with the kabuki makeup or is the lighting off? Watched this on two different monitors to see if it was my TV...
Hmm, yeah, but what did you think of Dan's review of Part II? I watched it this evening at a cinema and have to say I enjoyed it more than the first, which was already pretty good. Splitting up the action paid off, and I was ready to watch Part III when the credits rolled - some amazing acting work from all involved (though more screentime for Djimon would have been welcome).
I really enjoyed part one’s suspense but It would definitely be hard to watch with that suspense gone. Part 2 on the other hand is non stop action and just plain awesome
why didnt the people put a speaker in the woodsand connect it to an ipod with a long cable. fire up some led zeppelin and set off the bomb when it arrived? both of these movies just shows the uselessness of pacifism. the end of the first movie, shows the family was in danger til the daughter fought back and killed the creature. part two starts up like they didnt just discover its weakness. hook up the speaker to the little feedback machine and casually blow their heads off at your convenience. part two should be a 10 minute cleanup operation.
It seemed more like a place-holder. I felt like they could have expanded on why those bote people got all weird. Had there been an extra 10 minutes I felt like the movie would have seemed complete.

Or those weird canibals whatever which dont know how to use boats and check out the lighted signal tower on the island a few hundrets of meters away. Or the beyond the sea song playing into a fucking microphone which could have been used to just speak and send a spoken message directly instead? Like WTF?! Script?! 😄 My buddy and I were laughing throughout the whole film. We liked the first one.
I just feel like the attention to detail in this one isn’t on the same level as the first both technically and narratively. But I still really liked it.
I loved this movie. It was a fantastic sequel, going back to day 1 for a few minutes was good. The Action was good. Even though at the end of A Quiet Place 1 they were 2 more death angels coming but in this one they are completely fine which I can pass through. There is also a channel called AngryJoeShow which when they did a review of Quiet Place Part 2 they said " it was the first one again " which is bull right there.
I went off the reviews for the first movie and was let down by the contrived/stupid stuff in the script (but saw it via a free pass, so it was only my time and gas that was wasted) . Will probably pass on this one, especially since the screenplay is being cited as a weak point.
