When you add the extra context I kinda get it. I mean most people already assumed this joker was going to be an influencer for the “ real “ joker that Batman fights in the future. So this movie technically backs that theory up because he never actually was really the “ joker”. He was just arther fleck which Lee actually tells him while breaking up with him. He was just a sad broken man in the end. I like it better than him being the joker that influences a copycat that ends up fighting Batman. Just means the future joker will be his own thing and version instead of a wannabe copycat.

The first Joker film was a hit because it was a dark turn done right and DC was ballsy enough to push an R Rated comic book film The ending sounds disappointing and it will def fume the general public especially the fans of the first film. This movie is gonna bomb so badly due to WOM. It may succeed on the first three days but this movie is gonna flop so badly once they hear how shitty the ending is

I 100% agree but the ending clearly shows that he was just some random dude who inspires what I assume will be the real joker in the movies future. My only issue is if they wanted to go this route they never should of had him call himself the joker in the first movie only for him to apologize in this one lol Lee also breaks up with him hence why most reviewers refer to him in the end as a sad broken man. He literally doesn’t even die as the joker. Dies as a literal loser nobody who regrets what he did. I guess the dude who stabs him also didn’t appreciate him not doubling down like Lee. Killed him for being a weak poser.
@@DanielP-t6gNo the point of the ending is just to end the story it isn't about setting up for some future new version of the Joker or the supposed real Joker. That is all something people are trying to read into it to try to justify the ending more. The ending is how it is because the director Todd Phillips doesn't like comic book films and never wanted to make an actual Joker movie just a stand alone story about a guy called Joker. All this other stuff is stuff you guys are reading into the plot there is no real Joker that is inspired by Arthur. Arthur is killed at the end by just another random inmate.

In the Phoenix universe Arthur is the Joker there is no super criminal mastermind Joker that was never the intent of these movies they were never about setting up a Batman or comic universe. These films were made how they were as Oscar bait flicks using the character names to draw in the mainstream audience.
