Glenn Shorrock, and Beeb Birtles co-wrote this. I recall years ago reading a critique of LRB. Although they were the first Aussie band to get large success in the USA the article argued that they didn't sound Australian. They could easily be mistaken for a number of other easy listening bands of the time The "one-armed bandits" - a fruit machine operated by pulling a long handle at the side. (as the dictionary describes it) is a term of American origin Australians call the 'pokies' (from the poker card game) No member of LRB currently are Australian and the original line-up don't have the rights to the name - when the three mainstays played again they went under their own names as Shorrock, Birtles & Goble.
The song you guys were referring to and reviewed was "It's a Long Way There"...an 8 minute song with great musicianship and soaring harmonies from down under...
''Little River'' is a town in Victoria. The band got its name from that place. I've grown an appreciation for them over the years. It makes sense that these guys broke in to America big, and not something I would have wished for like The Swingers or Jo Jo Zep And The Falcons.
LRB weren't cool, but they were consistent. Even my sister and I couldn't deny how good they were when our parents forced us to see them in concert. We were full of hate when we walked into the venue, and full of love when the concert finished. They were that good!
Heard some song on radio in car yesterday. Thought it was Thin Lizzy but ended up being Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons. Surprised how good it sounded to make me think it was Thin Lizzy. LRB got some nice songs like this one but more elevator music for me. They certainly appealed more to a USA market than here from what I recall. I would always get them and Air Supply mixed up as bands. I was too young to know whom was whom in their time but when I hear a song like this now, I actually realize I did hear it on the radio at some point, probably late 70's I guess. Still cannot believe Steve Prestwich joined this band as drummer after Cold Chisel broke up but weirdly it happened.

I have a soft spot for LRB's singer Glenn Shorrock. If he wasn't the singer in Little River Band, he most likely would have been a television host. He was a natural in front of a TV camera and quite an entertaining host on Countdown. He was no Ian ''Molly'' Meldrum, but he did have his own brand of charisma. What was heartbreaking was seeing him host a music show on ABC-TV called Rock Arena a few years after he left LRB. Rock Arena didn't have the glitz and budget of Countdown. It was a no-frills music program on the ABC and had moderate ratings. And there was Glenn Shorrock talking about other people's music and interviewing artists around three years after having all those hitsf. Perhaps I'm projecting, but he seemed lost. I remember Gillian and I watching Rock Arena and sort of feeling sad for him. Anyway, my own little LRB story. This (Home On A Monday) was released at the time our parents forced me and my sister to see them live in concert. We were both outraged that we had to see boring old Little River Band for a couple of hours, and we pouted and stomped about the house for the entire day. We insisted that we could take care of ourselves (at 11 and 9), and that our parents should just go without us. I mean, it was fine seeing LRB mime on Countdown for less than five minutes, but a two hour concert was a punishment. Anyway, LRB proved to be so good that we fell in love with them, and wanted more encores. After that, I saw LRB in a very different way. Cheers, Hayley
The lead singer Glenn Barrie Shorrock AM is an English-born Australian singer-songwriter In February 1982, Shorrock left Little River Band and was replaced by John Farnham who was managed by Wheatley. Shorrock returned to Little River Band in 1988 but, despite several quality albums, they did not regain the earlier stellar recognition. Peace out.
All the original line-up except for Goble were born o'seas Beeb Birtles was born Gerard Bertelkamp (in the Netherlands). Glen Shorrock (main vocals) was from England Graham Goble - guitars, vocals was born in Australia David Briggs - guitars, was born in Australia (not on the original two albums) George McArdle - bass guitar. After he left Beeb took over bass (he’d played bass previously in Zoot). I am not sure where he was born. Derek Pellicci - drums, percussion, was born in Italy. He had also been in Mississippi (band)
Just remember, he never says which Monday. Vegas can be tempting. Funny story, the band formed in Melbourne and their manager got them their first gig in Geelong, which is a large town about an hour’s drive away. Along the way, they were tossing up band names and then the bus went past the sleepy township of Little River. The rest is history
Yes, John Farnham is a great singer, but he's proven that he is a solo singer whereas Glen was fantastic as a band singer and harmonised well with Beeb Birtles and Graham Goble.
