Please, for your own safety, never use a spindle roughing gouge (the first tool used in this video) on a bowl! The narrow tang is too easy to bend if you have a catch and very bad things can then happen. The roughing gouge should only be used for work where the grain runs parallel to the lathe bed. Beautiful workmanship on the checker board glue up.
Turning rule #1. Ya don't use a Spindle Roughing Gouge on end grain EVER! Your lucky it didn't blow up in your face.. Next time use a Sharp bowl gouge. You should study a little before you hurt yourself.
