Thanks to everyone for lending us their cars for this race:

- Ferrari SF90: / alwaysturnleft
This may just be the most outstanding electric vs hybrid vs petrol drag race of all time!
We’ve got Mat lining up in the Tesla Model S Plaid, and he’s about to go head-to-head against a Ferrari SF90 & Porsche 911 Turbo S!
So let’s see how these three compare. Starting with the Tesla, it’s equipped with three electric motors - one on the front axle, and two on the rear. Combined they produce an almighty 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. Naturally, the motors and batteries weigh it down a bit, so it tips the scales at 2,190kg. In terms of price, you can pick one up new for £113,000.
Next up we have the Ferrari. Not only does it come with three electric motors, but it’s also packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8! When they combine, it can put down an incredible 1,000hp and 800Nm! It’ll come as no surprise that it’s lighter than the Tesla, weighing in at 1,580kg (but we think Ferrari may be watering down their figures a bit…). And while it’s lighter than the Tesla, it’s SO much more expensive, costing from £376,000!
Then finally we have the Porsche. It’s powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can produce 650hp and 800Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 1,640kg. It may be cheaper than the Ferrari, but it still carries a hefty price tag, costing from £180,000!
We already know this race will be SO close, but there’s only one way to find out which will come out on top… LET’S RACE!

@@Yayeetskeet420 a 650s or 675lt would do significantly better
Despite being significantly down on horsepower compared to the other two, the Porsche didn't do bad at all, especially on launch.
Especially for a Combustionengine without electrification
Porsche isn't int he same class really, I mean they had to tune the 911 turbo like ES motors or so then.
The amount of horsepower doesn't actually affect your initial launch. A higher horsepower only comes into play at higher speeds since if you try to spin the wheels at maximum power right from the get go, you'll just spin them up and get nowhere.
The formula for calculating the amount of horsepower you need is power (in watts) = mass of the car * current speed of the car ( in metres per second ) * acceleration required ( in metres per second squared )
Since cars are traction limited, the acceleration can only be so high and hence the power of the car only becomes a limiting factor at higher speeds since the power required to maintain the same acceleration is directly proportional to the speed of the vehicle.
This is why the porsche can keep up with the others launch and or beat them, since at the launch its not the horsepower that counts but the ability to limit wheelspin and limit the acceleration to as close to the value that the friction allows.
Yeah the two faster cars reduce the power at the start. Just the expected behaviour. As soon they're on the roll it's time to say bybye for the Turbo S

Plaid with track package comes with ceramic brakes as standard and they're the same size as the ones fitted to GT2 RS.
My understanding is previous poor Tesla braking was a result of winter tires. I’m guessing they have summer tires now for this test.
Obviously repeated braking would favor the European cars, but one time stops aren’t as bad as it is made out to be
@@borinvlogs Would love to see a test at some point with the track package ceramic brakes applied to the Tesla.
@MatWatsonCars the thing is. I do like al the races, however is it possible to introduce a new theme on the stats? Something like the price per horsepower you pay for the car. Have a good one!
That Tesla looks like a Ford saloon from the 90s! Who'd be seen in one of those?!
And the fact the Plaid is a 4 door hatchback!! Like that’s insane
Imagine what can Tesla do for the price of the other two in the same format (performance focused car)... Actually we'll wait for the Roadster
@@lukabosnjak3829I wouldn’t hold your breath, also being the fastest car there and having the worst braking just goes to show the lack of care Tesla has put into it
@@Chriskreepa that’s why they now offer carbon ceramics with big discs and 6 piston brakes now…
@@Chriskreepa The Tesla weights a lot more dude, and with the autopilot the car the car is more safe than the Porsche in real life.
@@Chriskreepa it weighs a lot more, try fitting a family of 5 plus a weeks worth of grocery in a 911 turbo S. It ain't a daily car like the plaid. And speaking of daily, nobody needs squeaky grabby carbon ceramics, youre gonna be fine with regular brakes on a daily use
If Matt has won a race without jumping the start i'm yet to see it 😆
If he was driving the Ferrari he would not repeat the first race ! And always jumping the start to win ! I’m sick of this guy 🤦
I know right!! He is always moving before the hands drop no matter what he drives.
True…Guy can’t drive
@@Hellacop6 they need to invest in proper lights, so his cheating is more blatant....
@@pizzaprince when did he move before the hands started to go down? If its close they always show a slow mo replay to see if that really was the case. Ive never seen him actually jump a start, he just has a good reaction time
We need a compilation of Mat jump starting early because it’ll be an hour long
How many times did the tesla jump the start? Like all of them except the first?
No one else notice Mat's "unbelievable" reaction speed...?
Twice....
exactly the dude starts early on every race and brakes early on the breaking test lol
Matt is a sore loser and a terrible host.
@@fabianegger1046 Yep he's consistently a cheat!
Need a christmas tree to start the race.
It would be so nice to see where these cars max out their speed. Maybe Mat if you could sometimes do a speed limit check. Would be awesome 🤩
Ferrari Tops out at 211 mph
Tesla Plaid - Electronically limited to 162 but with the Track package it will hit 200mph
Porsche Turbo S will hit around 205 mph accrordin to Google.
There's video of an unlocked Plaid doing 216mph on a runway
I don't think they have room for it
@@BadNeighbor762If it only was about the perfect highest numbers, we wouldn’t have these videos lol
Feel free to come over for a coffee. I will show you my collection of my speeding tickets.
Love the plaid steering wheel think I'll cut mine down like that on my Hyundai i20 N line 😅
Not Matt jumping early the 2nd and 3rd race after he got beat😂😂😂
If they used the new PLAID with upgraded ceramic brakes and uncapped top speed, it would have been even more unfair to the other 2.
minimum this time the Plaid wasn't only wintertimes like the X Plaid... that carwow never corrected this is a shame
And if they used a lucid it would be even more unfair to all 3 of them, or a bugatti pur sport ahahah
Imagine that Turbo S with 900+ hp😳
Imagine that Porsche with Tesla plaid motor and not using gasoline.
The future is great
@@cybertruck4988 hell na it's a car not a toy
@@krishnaarmy3315 exactly. I wouldn't want a RC car porsche
@@abliviustrey bro clearly don't know the amount of engineering goes into a Porsche
In a drag race tesla, tuned gtr can even beat buggati it doesn't mean tesla is more powerful than buggati
FUN FACT! You can buy 7 Tesla Plaids for the cost of 1 SF90, and 2 Plaids for 1 TURBO S.
Just for the statistics it would be great if we can see the times of every one of the 3 races. I don't care if they will be in the video, description or comments. Sometimes to me it looks like some of the cars (drivers) perform best in their first launch and if that's the case it would be nice to have it after all :) P.S. It was a great race as always!
+1
Same
But I guess you need to head over to Officially Gassed - OG Races for some proper stats
I think this a lot of time
A family car beating the ultimate ICE supercars. It’s utterly amazing
Yea that family car has 1200 hp and a better power to weight what’s funny is that the plaid would get smoked in top speed by the other two
@@ericship8383no one should logically care about top speed. At least where I’m from, America, you can’t use over half your speed dile so who cares if you can eventually go faster when it’ll never happen.
@@ericship8383oh and I don’t hate those cars either i think they are awesome but 0-60 is what I like in a car and EV’s are the 0-60 future
@@ericship8383 1020, almost same as Ferrari here but heavyer and still beat it
@@ericship8383 It's 1020 hp not 1200. And it has 5 seats and a massive trunk/frunk. It also has a massive battery it has to carry which btw gives it a longer range than the 911. An electric family sedan with a longer range absolutely smoking an ICE supercar is a big win in all aspects.
You need to get a Model S Plaid with the new track pack when it comes out this month! Adds Goodyear's new Supercar 3R tires, carbon ceramic brakes (though they recently upgraded standard brakes), track brake fluid, updated performance software, and unlocks the 200 mph top speed.
that 'Not really' sounded so scared, I think Matt got flashed with a future Cease n' Desist from Ferrari. XD
Even though the Porsche was the slowest of the three, it just does it for me. I’ll have the Porsche every day of the week and twice on Sundays. ❤
its not slowest to 100m evidently. Smoked the Tesla off the line. Teslas are so dull tbh
As a Porsche owner, you are absolutely right!!
Porsche cars are amazing and practical to own, Ferrari…….nope!!
Same
Amen
in a track race, the cards would be reshuffled, here performance would really matter! @matt: a video at the Nürburgring, please!🙏🏼
Or alternatively carrying 4 people and their luggage to the airport, another unfair comparison.
Love your channel! Porsche is properly pronounced with 2 syllables. Cheers!
Thank you so much Mat, Nick, Rory, Carwow staff, everyone who gave their cars and everyone who made this insane drag race possible!
hes done it many times before bro what u on about, theres millions tesla plaid drag races on utube
@@KevinColt its a bot..
Would be nice if you shared with us the battery charge level, Matt, if you used cheetah stance with launch control, and also the tires on all 3
Yes. At this level of performance, tyre are so crucial.
Could not agree more, Matt would have made a big song and dance about waiting for it to get into Cheetah mode!
80k for a used plaid I was looking to get a hellcat but that plaid is looking like the real winner here in more ways then just speed
That porch launch is amazing!!
ya, it belongs on a porch
Hilarious that the only car that was called "expensive" by Matt was the Tesla
It's only $104,000 lol. Brits have to pay more tho
@@PassportGaming Brits will nether get it, they canceled right hand drive model s+x, maybe therefore the but hurt.
He probably means price to build quality ratio. It is a lot of money for a junk car with one novelty party trick
@@sportbikejesus6297 i test drove it and know many owners. Quality is great and owners love their teslas.
I remember a time where that Porsche was untouchable in these drag races…
In all seriousness though, that Turbo S is an absolute weapon, the launch control is just tuned to perfection
The Turbo S was never untouchable. It's always a question of which car you put against it.
But you gotta say, this thing can punch WELL above it's waistline.
it still is what do u mean.
What do u think wud happen if the Porsche had 1000hp? Hmmm

The Tesla lunch *way faster* than the Turbo S. See the 2nd and 3nd drag races.
Of course i still take the Porsche tho...
It's not even close. Price and performance the Tesla is the obvious winner.
