Really cool concept! One thing I'd say is - make it a hold for hover instead of toggle, it's a bit annoying to basically mentally cycle between on and off state using the same button. So hold for hover and release to stop hovering.
Sounds like that was his intent, but the way he did the physics it wasn't working.
This "stream highlights" format is amazing! It makes these seem more devlog-y and less like a retrospective. Good job on the game too!
yeah i actually learned quite a bit for this instead of ppl cutting out most of the footage
I like this kind of content! Would like to see more of these slightly less bespoke videos
Vimlark: what do you call a platforming game without spikes?
Me: Super Mario Bros
Loved the stream format, I'm not able to catch your streams so this was the first time seeing you in your environment. Gave the video a more laid back feel and I really enjoyed it!
Stream highlight format is amazing for those of us that never can find the time to catch streams ! Much love, awesome video.
9:15: A chunk key, if you will!
Oh man, you are very talented! You did a lot of things in only 3 hours
Edit: I really like this new format. You should keep it for future videos.
@@blenderyoda Nope. I'm a patron :)
Cool to see the entire process of making prototypes because in others videos (not only yours) you start with a square end 2 secondes after a slight cut you have a finished game
Loved this video format! I haven't been able to catch the stream in a long time, but these challenges are very fun to watch and I learn a lot from them. I'd be thrilled if videos like this were more of a frequent thing, they'd be perfect for the way I consume your content. Thank you!
Great video, I am a huge fan of these types of quick challenge projects, its amazing what you can do when you set a goal and have arbitrary constraints.
I actually quite like this video format and concept. I'd love to see more!
ur amazing bro. i love this type of content and I can learn what ur doing in 3 hours.
I really like this style of video, keep up the good work!
This was a cool video format. The Voice over stuff is really cool, but for someone who is not watching the streams it gives a nice view of the process!
I like the longer content and that's a really neat game you made in only 3 hours :)
Miss these mini game jams!
I really enjoyed this video! I wouldn't mind seeing more of these on the channel :D
i rly liked it bc it showed your complete process from start to finish!
It's always a treat when you upload, your wholesome and positive energy always makes me feel better :D
"What would you call a platform game without spikes"
Me: Mario
I was once trying to make a normal platformer and made a hovering system by mistake.
It's not a bug, it's a feature!
* when i was watching the first part beforr the art and thinking what the player character would be, my mind stuck with a cat cloud
* like a hover animation would be a cat floating on a little cloud
Its mindblowing you were able to do this
I kinda like this type of video! Please continue!
Really like the stream highlight format!
Very cool Nick! :) Super inspiring!
This was tons of fun!
this was very entertaining to watch!
Seems like an interesting game! Looking forward to hopefully seeing it in a jam video from you at some point! - Maybe including a comparison of this to the new one (if you do it!) would be interesting!
As for the format, I thought it was really quite nice! Different for sure, but nice! :D
Ideas/Suggestions: (If you haven't already)
Tl;Dr: Create assets/music/sounds/programming language files in advance to save time.
- Make an asset folder for game jams
(Put assets that you can reuse. Remember that you can always update the assets, if you get bored or experience.)
I noticed you keep saying that you didn't have time to create music or sounds.
- Create music and sounds that you can reuse on any type of game.
-Create a notepad file with your most used programming language. (Example: I know HTML and JavaScript, but in a crunch I just copy and paste script I wrote in advance in a notepad/WordPad/MS Word files to save time. Instead of keep typing the same thing. This also prevent syntax errors, if you're rusty or rushing.)
- Keep unused game jam concepts in a file in case you have game dev block
-Example: If one game jam is about time travel, create a two asset folders (one for time and other travel)
Normally, people will look up only time travel, but by having them separate you came up with a unique take on it.
Hopefully, these ideas will save you time.
Cool video, it gives a good idea of what it's like on stream.
Love it!
Neat game! I love games being created with boxes before all the sprites are made.
love it!!!
I like this form of video
Wonderful
another epic video
So good
You are the best one, please more pixelgraphics!
Hey, great Video! :)
Oh stream highlights? Very nice!
Yes a New video
Havent been to a vimlark stream in a while I should pull up
How does Vimlark make his Construct 3 UI look like that? I have the paid version like he does but I dont seem to have the same sleek UI.
It's a theme I bought from Mitsuhashish. I added the link to the video description. Should have had it there from the start, my bad.
Can someone tell mo how the song at 8:58 is called? Can't find it on youtube music.
I keep missing the streams🤣
I rather enjoy the mechanics of the game; this was a very good Minimum Viable Product/Vertical Slice. I would like to know if you've used this since its conception? I'm **going** to --steal-- borrow the main hover mechanic and implement it into my own game for a similar challenge. Thanks for the idea!
I played it on my phone and its fun 🤩
The game is buggy when I played it every time I went even remotely close to ground it'd teleport me onto it. Even the Spikes!!!
What game engine are you using to make this game? I'm getting into game design but am struggling to know where to start... I've tried many game engines already but they are too complicated for my small smooth inexperienced brain.
Vimlark always uses construct 3. Sorry Im not a game dev though so I can't give any advice on what to use. Good luck!
@@bellaander Thank you!
Neat
level exit,no, dortal
not warched the video yet, but just need to say:“That what she said“🙃
Kinda looks like don’t explode.
Nö
What is this coding engine?
