In my humble layman’s understanding the ascension where for the first time ever humanity reaches it’s divine purpose seems to me to be the point where God’s plan is completed, the deification of the new Adam so to speak even though He is the God man from conception. So that we might too one day live in glory and share by grace in the divine eternity.
Connected also to the notion that the incarnation is not plan B.
Not to down play the cross but more to be overjoyed by God’s remarkable condescension from all eternity that we might be called to sonship through the incarnation.
Many thanks Father for your words from a brother in Australia whom God had mercy on 22 years ago to enter into the One Holy Catholic Church out of heterodoxy . Missed your lecture in Sydney some years back as I live a fair distance away…

yes, really short but profound in the way the ethos expressed stands in sharp contrast to the manner in which most of our hierarchs, indeed, clergy have responded to the current "crisis".

@@fr.davidwooten1650By expounding on the sobriety of Ignatius clinging to X in the face of death...unlike us who rejected the path to true humanity by sidelining X out of irrational fear. "There is nothing worse than to fear something more than God, and over this fear become instead of a servant of truth, a traitor to the teaching of truth and faith." --Gr of Naz

Thank you for bringing us this deep and rich content. Please don't be discouraged by the criticisms. As we approach Lent on this Sunday of the the Public and the Pharisee, we are reminded to be humble before God. Blessings.

The true 'orthodox' Christians teachings were all establsihed by the LIVING apostles. after which "while men were sleeping ( in death) the truth would obscured by 'weedlike' false teachers & their philosophies and ideas! ( see Matt 13:25) Jude stated ( around 55AD that "The FAITH was delivered ONCE FOR ALL TIMES to the Holy ones (saints) Jude 3. Nothing needed to be ADDED! when it was, by the so called 'church Fathers' most of whom were under the influence of the Roman empire! ( Every single church council where 'orthodox' doctrines were voted on and accepted, were conveined by the secular Emperor of the time, starting with Constantine ( who murdered members of his own family!

Just because we are Orthodox does not mean that everything has to have a three bar cross or Znamenny chant on it. An example from Fr. Seraphim Rose: “A young catechuman once came to Fr. Seraphim Rose and said "Father, I am reading the Fathers diligently! Every evening when I go home I read the saints and Orthodox theology. I read nothing but Orthodox works." The Holy Saint looked at him with concern and replied: "Go home and read Dickens." Father Seraphim understood a very important principle: We must be on guard against becoming ultra chrsitian, which is an equal error to being apathetic. We cannot be so lofty that we are not aware of what is happening in the world. Our faith is a practical one, not merely an ideology. The Lord taught us to pray that Heaven would come down to earth. Therefore, we must guard against religious intellectualism, having tons of book knowledge but no practical spritual life. Instead of debating liturgy and canons for hours online, are we living ascetically? Are we showing charity to our community? Are we living our faith or are we just learning it? Saint Paul tells us that we attain all knowledge but have no practice, our faith is worthless.”

Agreed! The color version was worse, however. Sometimes bad a/v things happen!
