Good video. If hack and slasher are differentiated from beat em ups by the fact that the player wields weapons, perhaps Sega's Samurai (1980) may be the fist arcade example of this genre. By the way Wiki says "The term "hack-and-slash" in reference to action-adventure games dates back to 1987, when Computer Entertainer reviewed The Legend of Zelda and said it had "more to offer than the typical hack-and-slash" epics."
I think of them as an offshoot of beat 'em ups starting from Renegade or Double Dragon maybe (ones with combos, grabs and throws), but the early entries here make sense if you start from Kung Fu Master I guess (for me some are platformers, such as Rastan and Black Tiger). Another good video!
Honestly I found your videos to be very constructive and I love seeing everything from these genres. So the haters can go screw themselves for all I care.
2:45 I have finished rush n attack with no cheats. It's a hard game. One touch and you're done. Green baret was the original version while it looks better the nes was the best version.

Agreed. The NES version was great considering it was a first gen game.
What kind of sailor drowns when falling into a fountain lol
A very bad one...😅
