Egyptians did indeed believe in the afterlife. Osiris was as example the God of the Underworld. Also to add to this and it is in debate that they did believe either in going to an underworld or leading to a path to the stars in the afterlife. On top of this many pharaohs believed in an afterlife where they returned from death and hence they were mummified with all their possessions and what they believed important in the human body. Hence they both believed in a different dimension or world of where you go to die and they believed in returning from the dead. Probably also a pretty significant belief to have since some of Cyberpunks story revolves around such stuff like Johnny's revival. In terms Cyberpunk makes tons of references to connections to death and rebirth. Including Kojima who made Death Stranding. However on the contrary the Cyberpunk belief you mention seems more to following Atheism with some spiritual aspects.

The epithets of the Buddha itself gives it away already such as Bhagava(Lord), Devatideva (God among Gods), Satha Deva Manussam (Teachers of Gods and Men), and Sammasambodhi (Perfectly Enlightened). If one were to read the Tipitaka (The Buddhist scriptures) it is definitely a Religion. Secular Western Buddhism arouse out of the need to adapt to a secular post-Christian West which needed a secular yet exotic form of spiritualism. Secular Buddhism is merely a different adaptation.

The fact that you said that majority of the urban poors are Muslims reminds of the trend where the prisoners of America and the U.K sometimes convert to Islam. The urban poor are likely going through similar trials and tribulations and somewhere down the line ended up as Muslims. An interesting correlation...
One think that got me since E32018 is they feature Buddhist Monk in game! and B-roll gameplay show that they even have quest that involve Buddhist monk. I will do every quest that involve them.
There kinda is. Buddhism has a unique relationship with the cyberpunks of Night City. Their philosophies don't really mesh, with the cyberpunk solo lifestyle really is all about making money and moving up in reputation through lots and lots of violence and Buddhism being, not that, more about enlightenment and other things the common cyberpunk straight up can't grasp, especially Buddhism's view on no cybernetics. However Cyberpunks still help out or work for Buddhist and other similar groups, because the Maelstrom gang sees Buddhism's no augmentation philosophy as weak and actively go out of their way to kidnap monks and forcibly augment them. Solos rescue and defend monks mostly for money but also because they either hate Maelstrom or just don't think attacking people for their religion is cool. A lot of people converted to Buddhism during the collapse of the US because it offered and alternative to the rising violence and the cyberpunk philosophy.
@@andrewdiaz3529 As a Buddhist, I don't quite agree with Buddhists' strong opposition of cybernetics in itself (but maybe only with the motives and emotions for them). Interesting back story though. Wish I get to see a fair bit of it in the game.
@@tymiller176 The opposition to cybernetics seems like a recent development in Night City Buddhism in particular, as it wasn't mentioned in the admittedly small amount of information on Buddhism in the Home of the Brave sourcebook which had a fair sized section on religion in the US after the collapse. There does seem to be a number of potential quests involving Buddhism though: the monk you rescue from Maelstrom forced augmentation in one of the first street kid quests, a potentially Buddhist monk wearing some kind of corporate robes at Arasaka towers (Arasaka might be trying to infiltrate religious groups and make them pro-corprate or just see some value in some kind of peaceful solace for their ultra stressed out workers), and there seems to be some religious sites throughout Night City for many religions that could have missions attached to them.
As a muslim gamer, it's pretty cool to find my religion in cyberpunk :D can't wait to see how they interpret the religion into the game! (lowkey hope i can wear a hijab, since no other rpg i know of has it)
Muslim gamer too, I saw in the 45 minute game play video that a couple of NPCs wear hijabs, so I think you can equip them too. I kinda wana see how "cyber-mosques" look in the future too.

Islam isn’t restrictive , Islam is a simple religion that only forbidden harmful and bad things like alcohol , killing lying and so on and it’s main objective is to worship one god and follow all prophets and live your life normally so what’s restrict about that and we Muslims would die rather than leave Islam so that’s why it survived 1500 years and will remain till judgement day bec it’s the only religion that makes sense

Catholics live on in a cyberpunk dystopia? Oh boy what would a cyber crusade look like?! Joke aside it's so cool how they incorporated religions into this game.
The last cult sounds like something straight out of the Cthulhu Mythos. The universe of Lovecraft is based on the idea that the universe is ruled by evil entities who perceive human beings with indifference where man is utterly hopeless against them.
Yeah but in Lovecraftian mythos, ALL Gods are evil and humanity has no hope against their will. The fellowship against the gods seems nihilistic, but their entire goal is to fight against the perceived evil Gods they hate and put benevolent ones back into power, the fact that they do this in and of itself goes against Lovecrafts central philosophy regarding horror, in that there is no escape and no way of impacting anything if it is against the gods will. And that's super depressing, so even though they seem violent and kind of fucked up, I personally think the fellowship against the gods is my favourite (specific to the Cyberpunk universe) religious entity on this list, they seem cool.

In the cult however, there is a chance to fight evil, like you said, which is what makes it different to the typical Lovecraftian story. You get a feeling of nothing-mattering-in-the-grand-midst-of-things feeling in Lovecraft which I believe somewhat reflect the members of the cult. To a certain extent, of course.
It's funny because in the lorebook they are released in, they straight up were partly inspired by a modern take on lovecraft. The Home of the Brave sourcebook really is great.
Are you kidding? The developers are Polish. I highly doubt they would bash Christianity, and neither would you if you knew anything about Poland. They will honour Mike Pondsmith's lore regarding the Christian denominations, but I'm sure they won't unnecessarily antagonise Christians, especially considering how that would put themselves at risk of turning from national heroes to a national embarrassment almost overnight if they did.
I hope you're right and a example of bashing in my opinion would be that there will be some crazy christian extremist in the game or something that wouldn't be the first time

I just want to say I was expecting a lot weirder cults and stuff. Lot of these are kinda bland sounding. Like their is a side mission in the game with a ritual gone wrong and for some reason a street gang was involved. Though that looked way more interesting.
I would love for the religions in game to have an impact on the gameplay not just to be able to do a few quests and that`s it ... :) I mean if you are a religion, the other religions to stop giving you quests and / or not even receive you inside their buildings :)

It is incredibly dumb to me how some people treat religious beliefs like Judaism and Islam as if they're a race, it's a bit unrelated but I hope stupid politics like that concerning religion have faded away by 2077. But then again idiots will always exist regardless of the time.
I agree they're not races, but they have tribal/racial elements to them. Judaism, though it allows for conversion, does not promote it or encourage people to convert, which means it has the general character of a tribe or race. Islam is obviously much more diverse, but the Arabs are clearly the dominant racial/cultural group because the whole religion is so focused on the Arabic language as well as on pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina. It's unavoidable that these religions be associated with race.
They are a church made chiefly by and for America, with a prophet whose focus was on the re-establishment of Christian worship for the End Times/Latter Days. Of course they will prosper.

Cyberpunk history diverted from our history around the 1980s after the fall of the USSR and the rise of the Gang of Four in the US (CIA, FBI, NSA, DEA). The US spent decades in central and South America until about 2005 literally fighting a war on drugs. A lot of different things happen and most Americans either became more involved with their own religions or converted to new ones like Islam. There was a nuclear war in the middle east and a big part of cyberpunk Islam is whether or not the radiation near Mecca (which survived) should be cleaned up or if it's a sign.
Islam became a big religion in America in the cyberpunk world during and after the collapse. Pretty much every major city had at least on major mosque.
