I am from Illinois,im a86 year old lady who has started quilting 3 years ago.
I''m addicted. I'm a widow and live in my own home selftaught.Just have a caregiver . watched vidio's.
It's like potato chips... just can't stop
Joann Merrill Duckworth has an art background with a fabulous eye for color, that it what makes her quilts so wonderful. I’ve been in the Scrap Quilt Enthusiasts FB group for a while, every quilt she posts is stunning.
I know right!! I had to pull out my color wheel and analyze what makes her quilts sparkle. It's that combination of value, intensity, hue and the use of compliments that give them that perfect combination. Her quilts are just beautiful!!
Northern Ireland
Just bought my 8 year old granddaughter a sewing machine for Christmas. She made a doll quilt already. This the perfect next project.
Yes, my grand is going to give this one a try.
I am watching from Bangkok right now
Welcome to the Jelly Roll Club!!
Wow! I need to get more scraps!! Love that you kept saying that you don't need to be perfect. That's "perfect" for me! Thanks for this tutorial!
This is a friendly project for new quilters whose 1/4 may not be perfect.
Easy to find fabric or used clothes at thrift stores or junk shops, and ask your friends! Go to yard & estate sales too!
This is a favorite stash buster block I like to make. I’ve made many many quits using this method. No fiddling with little pieces. Just easy strip sewing. A true stress reliever if you like sewing. My blocks usually measure eight inches finished. I don’t like wasting fabric and this uses up a lot of scraps in very little time.
Mele Kalikimaka from Hawaii! 🌺
It's my new favorite!
Excellent quilt to make when you just need to escape for a while.
Beautiful. I want to see the finished quilt!!!
January 26 2024 Maryland USA: Just found this treasure of your channel. Many years ago taking a quilting class for beginers the block I feared till today was the log cabin. I could not get the accuracy of it. But who knew I was doing a scrappy Duckworth😅. Grabbing a cup of tea and sitting back to watch this video and others of yours.
Welcome
Watching replay. I love how it doesn’t matter if the 1/4” seam is exact or not. Thank you for the tutorial. Merry Christmas 🎄
Yes, freedom from that exact 1/4 inch seam makes this fast and stress free!
Love this! Gorgeous quilts! I would suggest that instead of sewing the strip onto the block, sew the blocks onto the strips. With 192 blocks in the quilt you would be hard pressed to find 4 that are alike. My suggestion is Darlene Michaud inspired. She doesn’t do log cabin, but has a series on scrappy quilts using my suggestion.
I love this suggestion. Now I have to go play in my sewing room!!
Crazy quilt strips are all sew together then the back is added when you quilt
This is Sally, and since I only purchase fabric in yardage form, I rarely have scraps. Those that you have are beautiful scraps. It will become a special quilt for someone.
This one is for my grandbaby because she loves pink. I normally buy fat quarters and anything left over from backs, borders gets cut into 2.5 inch strips. That is how I ended up with so many strips.
I’m 76 and just starting to sew and quilt. Good project for me if I had scraps.
Maybe you could use jelly rolls?
P.S. Hmmm, what am i working on: scrap quilts that are turning out fabulous! Sorry for tooting my own horn, but i absolutely Love Scrap Quilts. One is a large Potato Chip Block Quilt, and the other is a Log Cabin. I have 2 other quilts in progress: a large art/modern dresden plate quilt, and a large half square triangle bar quilt in reds and off-whites on my design wall. I also have a Delectable Mountains quilt in progress using blue/green batiks. I have to have multiple projects going at once; otherwise, I get bored with making just one quilt (its the artist in me). I must continuously be challenged! Its how my brain works. ❤ Keep on quilting, Ladies! 😊
Sounds wonderful!!
Love your IRON....got me 1 for home & 1 for travel!!😂❤
It's my favorite little piecing tool.
Greetings from NSW Australia
Glad I found your channel, I make scrap quilts, so this is a new idea. Thanks
Welcome!
I am watching you from New Zealand, I am 82 yrs old, also now a widow. I have been quilting since I was about 20yrs old, still enjoy it very much, and have just started making scrap quilts, I dont know why I havent made these before. You are right I love these scrapy quilts so now I will definitely be making a Duckworth quilt. Thank you for your video It was so easy and very easy to watch. Best Wishes, Rosemary BTW pink and greens are my favourite colours for quilts.
That is awesome!
good scrap duster
Yes, grab those scraps!!
I love this quilt! (And so EZ to understand how to make it!) Thanks for the extras you threw in: choosing your colors, seam size doesn't matter, no reason to stress, off kilter doesn't matter, etc. The camera view from overhead made it easy to see exactly what you were doing. I could go on & on.... 🎉 Thank you! P.S. I'll always think of this as the "It Doesn't Matter" quilt! 😊
Yes!!
It seems like crumb quilting on a larger size. I love it❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it.
I also love to use scrapes to make baby doll quilts. My grands love the baby doll quilts for their dolls and stuffies
Watching your video as I wind down and relax after a busy 3 days of Christmas prep and celebration. This scrap quilt looks like it could be great fun. Thanks for taking the time out of your holiday weekend to share this tutorial.
Merry Christmas. This is the perfect way to burn through lots of scraps.
Viewing from Australia
Welcome
I’ve been working on Duckworth quilts for months! I belong to the Scrap Quilt Enthusiasts so I got in on all of the fun when it first started! You’re doing a great job! I just found your channel.
That is awesome!
Hello from South Greenland! Enjoyed the replay! :) :) :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello my friend. I hate wasting fabric, also. I'm Connie and I'm from Fremont, Nebraska. Thank you for sharing. This is my first time watching you. God bless you and yours. 😊❤❤
Welcome!!
I was so happy to see you read my blog and are sharing the idea of a Duckworth quilt.
Your blog is FABULOUS... I'm a huge fan of yours.
@@JellyRollClub I added this video to my Duckworth Quilt blog post, my personal Facebook page and in the Scrap Quilt Enthusiast FB group. I hope it brings some new traffic to your channel. Love your channel!
This is so inappropriate. This is a basic wonky log cabin quilt. You shouldn’t be misleading people into thinking it’s something new and different. It isn’t.
those quilts would be perfect for people who love a weighted blanket over them! The more seams in a quilt, the heavier it becomes!
Yes, I like adding a layer of flannel to my winter quilts to give them more weight.
Love the point about using up leftover bobbins. So true! We end up with so many partials after the quilting. I'm doing that with a scrappy on the longarm right now
Yes, I can't stand to have a bunch of leftover bobbins.
I really enjoyed watching this. I am 78 YOA and made my first quilt when I was 7 years old. It was a nine patch. I sewed it on a freedom sewing machine. Arthritis inhibits my quilting now. You really do explain and demonstrate what you are teach quite well.
Wonderful! I'm glad you stopped by to watch the videos on our channel.
I just discovered your channel. I love that a focus of this video is that quilting can be liberating!! I’ve returned to sewing (retired and need to keep busy!!) but my seams are not consistent. I can’t wait to try this!! Thank you for this video.
Wonderful! This is the perfect quilt for "imperfect" quilters like me. I like accurate seams but sometimes I just need a project that has total freedom from accurate seams.
i have been viewing you for more than week.....your style of presentation and scrap focus have become perfect timing for me!
Welcome - I love using Jelly Roll which give most quilts a scrappy vibe. in my sewing room Scrappy is Happy.
I’ve loved watching all the Duckworth quilts on Facebook for a while now. Nice tutorial
I'm in love.... love all the ones I've seen online.
I love pink and green together, your fabrics are so pretty.
Thank you! 😊
Ivonne, I'm so glad utube brought this quilt up today. I love it I got so sick right after Christmas and forgot about this. Thank you so much. I could have been working on this .
Welcome to the club!!
I dont know how i missed this
It's one of my favorite blocks
Greetings from Nashville!! 🧵🪡✂️💕
Hello there!
I love scrap quilts so I’m looking forward to your 2024 series!
Scrappy is Happy
I just came across your RUclips./ Love this idea to be so FREE in sewing. Not precision, no matching bobbins or thread, just pure PUT TOGETHER AND SEW, Trimming them after you reach a certain size you want makes is very FREEING and they always come out GREAT! Thank you
It's super liberating
Greetings from central Florida……Sebring 😊
Hello there!
What a lovely, fun block! I love your tip on curating your colors to make the blocks.
Glad you like it!
Hi - love love the duckworth quilt pattern!
I just found your channel. Love this idea! I have a ridiculous amount of scraps so this will be perfect!
Welcome!!
Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I am drowning in scraps; my brain is racing thinking about color combos, or just reaching into my massive bags, yes plural, and working with what I pull (the only rule is the starting square must be red, blue, black, or whatever. I've been collecting lush, rich fairly large to medium floral fabrics. Hmmm, that would be very interesting! Okay, back to the vid...Many Thanks ❤
Welcome to the Jelly Roll Club. Where scrappy is happy!!
Oh My .. just came across this video and I can safely say that I am hooked (I also crochet☺) .. I am drowning in scraps so I am going to do all my center squares the same fabric, but no color theme for the rest .. I am going to pick up whatever I can find and use it and then throw it in a tub .. I am confident that I can do an entire quilt without using the same fabric twice .. I can't wait to see how that comes out .. thanks so much for this video, you are an easy watcher .. I am subscribed ❤
Have fun! it will be WONDERFUL
🤩@@JellyRollClub

Yes, thanks so much. Wishing you a New Year full of hope and blessings!!
Using up both scrap fabrics and long forgotten threads is genius.
All the best from bonnie Scotland
Yes, grab those bobbins with all the random threads and use them up.
Love this! I think this is perfect for this beginner quilter. Thank you, stay well.
It really is!
Watching replay from southeast MO. Looking forward to watching fun stuff on this channel.
Welcome! All the patterns and templates on my channel are free for personal use.
Love this! Strip ‘crumb piecing’ ❤️💜💗💙
Yes!!
Working on prepping strips for a quilt as you go. I am stitching random fat quarters for the backing. I stitch strips in on long string. Put the backing on my longarm and batting then use my horizontal channel lock to stitch strips across, trimming each strip as stitched. So very random. I even use the excess backing rolled forward with an embroidery stitch to close.
I love that idea... and frugal too which is my favorite.
Thanks for letting me be imperfect in a perfect quilting world. You are a superb instructor. Thank you for your excellent videos.
Glad it was helpful!

Hello there!
Thank you so much. Wishing you a beautiful Christmas and a fabulous New Year. Margie Australia xx
Same to you!
I made several of these years ago. It is a great way of using scraps. Recently I made two king size quilts using this method and still have tons of the scraps.
Gotta love a good scrap buster!!
Tuning in from Tulsa, Okla
Welcome
Love this!!! Can't wait to use my scraps!!
Have fun!
Hello. I am watching this from Morehead, Kentucky. Janet H. sent me back to you. I love sewing scraps. This is a wonderful idea. Thank you for teaching me another way to sew up my scraps. This is almost how I make my mindless (crumbs and strings) 8 1/2 inch crazy scraps blocks. However, yours has a completely different look. Yes, this does look like lots of fun. . This would make many beautiful Project Linus Quilts.
Welcome! This would be a great Linus project... tons of scraps and a room full of quilters.
What a wonderful scrap buster!!!!!
Merry Christmas!
Thank you! You too!
I love this as I too have many scraps over the years! Thank you!
Me too!!
Love using my scraps! Keep’em coming!
Scarppy is Happy - The new series Mystery Stars can be made with all your scraps.
this would be perfect for my 11 YO grand daughter, She has ADHD and loves to concentrate on sewing projects for an hour lol. She has done string quilts for her dolls and made an H2O2Go bag for herself.
the one thing that REALLY! sucks about this... I DO NOT HAVE SCRAPS! lol I use up my left overs by keeping squares of foundation papers or muslins and after a project I use the left over and scraps to make string or animal shapes etc ... I buy what I need use what I buy and whatever is left over I make up into the foundation pieced squares. When I get quite a few I sew them into a quilt. lol But I DO have one drawer of jelly rolls yardage and fat 1/4s ready to cut.
Sewing is a great hobby to help calm the mind and help people focus.
🎉😂🎉😂🎉🎉🎉ll be 🎉 and I will be happy to 🎉be 🎉🎉🎉l🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 oop i😊 we😊
