Thank you and Stephen for spending the time researching this amazing ship by Trumpeter. I am sure many will find your details invaluable, I like the majority, will be happy building with only small modifications you pointed out, the main thing is that I am very happy you didn't find anything really major and obvious, of course the rudders are just that, but like you said Nigel has made some really accurate replacements and that solves that issue. Thanks for sharing this video with those planning this massive build.
    😃👍 🇭🇲

Hi Jason, You and Stephen did a great job of comparing the model to your references. I think Trumpeter did a great job with this kit. 90% of the modelers are going to build this and display it in their homes where only friends and family will be the only ones to see it. The last 10% will probably make the changes you mentioned if they want a really accurate model or are putting it in a museum or competition. You mentioned the rudders Nigel sells, but you forgot to include a link in the description. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

Can only imagine the hours and hours of work that went into gathering the information to produce this video. Very well done!

    Great T-shirt Jason!
3:30 Good that the original drawings of the rudder are still in existence, because Trumpeter's interpretation of it is horrendous.
50:06 Coincidence here! I've already shot a clip to be inserted into today's episode that involves this part, and in it have asked you a question, because of you expertise, regarding brush painting.
56:45 So glad to hear you say this! Now I will be making more of an effort to get one on my model table!
Thanks for this detailed review. 👍

Hello...thanks for your video. I will be soon starting the Trumpeter 1:200 Yamato. While waiting for it's arrival...any day now...smiles...I was trying to do some research on the flags and/or penants which might have been flying on the ship? I have seen a couple models displaying a couple Rising sun flags...and saw one with four pennants flying on each side of the superstructure.
Do you have any information on the flags and/or pennants? I did find a sheet of IJN flags and pennants in the 1:350 size...nothing in the 1:200 yet. While waiting...I would like to use what I have and play with the sizing to make my images more like 1:200.
    Anyway...know the flags and pennants?

Dont know much about the flat sorry, I guess at difrent times, in port at see in battle she flew difrent flags and also used signal flags all to IJN standards, So ai would research that. here are some 1:200 flags if that helps they have the tenants you need. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225473418553?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=225473418553&targetid=1404115579093&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1006633&poi=&campaignid=17218284410&mkgroupid=142217514411&rlsatarget=pla-1404115579093&abcId=9300867&merchantid=115111111&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7pDXifiN_gIV0MLtCh1iNA0GEAQYASABEgJVq_D_BwE

Good morning Jason, great tutorial as usual. When I last visited Japan I when to Kure and visited the Yamato museum which is must if you go to Japan. There is so much to see but they have recently found some original blueprints of the yamato which were on wax paper. They were not of the whole ship but parts of. There was so much to see and one in particular was a spare searchlight of the yamato. Not sure if anyone can contact the museum for reference to the model

Instant sub - and I'm miffed that I've never seen anything from this channel come up during my numerous kit-related searches.
RUclips, stop curtailing and limiting my results!
    Regards,
    Kev
ps. Specifically, I've never seen anything from this channel amongst search results and recommendations, so I'm subscribing before it gets yanked away from me forever through the diabolical machinations of RUclips.

i would just build it as is , per kit instructions, it will still look awesome and 99% of people would not know about any inaccuracies , just my opinion, some people love getting models 100% accurate, and more power to them , just not my style,

Were there any “glaringly obvious errors” on the actual ship too? 😄
Actually, I guess so including the ineffective AA guns, the flaws with the armor belt attach joints, the torpedo defense system and the damage control system. All design choices are the result of trade offs and manufacturing limitations!

    • @ModelkitStuff
      @ModelkitStuff  2 года назад

the most glaringly obvious error was actually building a battleship in the first place

Hi great detailed video of details where can be model improved.
But I have few notes to it.
To those larger square openings in side of hull, If you look at detailed photos of 1:10 museum Yamato model (for example watch te video ruclips.net/video/sTu0RXwwv7Y/видео.html at 19:50 timestamp) they are not "windows" but are square holes fitted with some ventilators. By their position i asume that its for ventilating of boat hangars which is logical because when motorized boats stored there are started up it could have became unbreathable enviroment really fast. I dont think that this particular detail is something that would someone just invented while making that big museum model.
And point to the plating of hull when looking into AotS-Y&M book page 84-85 plating of hull there looks that it was overlaping plates as depicted on model and not but to but with overlaping strips like you suggested. That you possibly reffered to page 89 where are pictures B1/23 labeled as "typical joints of hull plating" but by thickness of those plates on the images I assume that it should be labeled as "typical joints of armor plating" which is in the end hidden under thin surface plating

Hi there, I think the model should be left as it is. Making all those suttel changes is just over kill lol... let's face it , unless a Yamato expert comes round to look at your model who the hell will know the difference. I think every one should just enjoy building the model as it is. Stephen, Epsom, Surrey UK.

I do not see how companies investing so much money into kits like this still manage to get so much stuff wrong.? surly they have all the reference material that you have.?

It's a Chinese company... that should be your first hint.... 2nd it's a Chinese company building a ww2 Japanese naval vessel.... trumpeter didn't even make it under their brand name. It's not a bad kit.. the most glaring error is the textured hull. She should have been mostly smooth
