Ed’s love of Japan and the near-mythic quality of his quests for sacred tablets will forever be inspiring

I can see why he loved Japan. It's one of the only places where they seem to see comics as a valid artform.

RIP Ed Piskor - it's kind of haunting and sad to see these videos, at the same time a reminder of how exhaustive and important this work was/ is. I hope in time the tradition/ channel is continued with the same passion and fervor.

Would Spiegelman qualify as one of the unicorns? It feels like his work has transcended the cultural and national boundaries (and his popularity, while maybe not the height of Miyazaki, is sizable even outside comics mainstream).
Jim, I hope you’re doing alright.

I hope Jim will speak out soon. I know this has been a difficult time, but it's important to the people who have connected here to get a sense for where things stand. Of course, Jim doesn't owe anyone anything... but it would be good to hear from him. I hope all of you are doing well. All the best, everyone.

I just nabbed Vol 1 ('79-96') a few months ago at the Strand in NY and thought of Ed & Jim right away...about how much they would appreciate.....Beautiful (and sad) now to get to see them discuss it. RIP Always, Ed.

CKFaybe's video collection is a gift for the future cartoonists of the world, watching this videos always felt like coming to school, you never finish a video without learning something. Still hard to watch the channel, but slowly I'm getting back to it and I always will for inspiration and to keep learning about comics.

It hurts so much that Ed is gone. I've been working my butt off to get a book done so he could benefit from the knowledge in it, and it crushes me he'll never get to read the completed work. Hearing him so enthusiastically dive into these books is bitter sweet, but I'm beyond thankful this video was shared nonetheless. ❤☮

Ed saying that he wishes that there was something for someone like Crumb. There is. R. Crumb: Conversations published by University of Mississippi Press. It’s not as comprehensive as these books, but it is similar in terms of presenting significant interviews from different places starting in 1968 and moving closer to present day with each interview. it also has a chronology of his life.

  • @zackkirk5320

I would put Rumiko Takahashi as a unicorn. Not Ed's style but she has 4 or 5 great long running international hits with Lum, Ranma, Inu-Yasha, and Kimgure OR. Also, Naoki Urasawa.
