    There are several great tutorials about cutting out hair, however the distinction you have demonstrated is that you made difficult things become very simple and not the other way round. Thanks so much

    Colin, this one is definitely my favorite version of your hair refining videos. This process works amazing on subjects I purposely put on a background to cut out later. Thanks as always for these tutorials and all you do to help others learn.

    Thank you for the great tutorial. You asked why you would cut out hair from a difficult background. Yes, if I knew I was going to cut out a subject to put on a different background I would definitely choose something simple for the original background. However, one does not always plan ahead for these things. Also, I'm going to be doing digital art portraits for people using their own photos, and I'm sure most of them will not be shot on an easy background.

      Yeah, me too. I shoot wildlife and often need to separate the subject from the background. The backgrounds are almost always challenging.

    What a great difference when you use the combo, and thank you so much, Colin for showing us this, it is really going to help. I am making a digital scrapbook of family photos for my mum for Christmas, who has Dementia and this little improvement is really going to help. Still waiting to see you show us about how to make wet hair out of a photo cut out that is put into a water scene, "wink wink, nudge- nudge" LOL I've seen it done by other Photoshoppers, but you are the best at explaining things.

    Nice video! Hair masking has come such a long way - seems like with every release there's a new advance - it's ~almost~ becoming automatic! The key ~still~ seems to be doing some pre-planning and not shooting against a busy background, even so. I think a lot of people are still trying to cut out old or low-res snapshots with busy backgrounds ... that's still a challenge even with improved tools ... got to mind that background! Thanks again for the video - !

    I am increasingly impressed with the PS features in the subject selection issue and even more with the refinement haircut. Thanks for this video. Does anyone know why the real-time refinement option is always grayed out no matter what Color Aware or Subject Aware options are selected in Select and Mask? This is occurring in version 22.1.1 of Photoshop but not in the previous version where such an option could be selected or not.

    Great video. Thank you! I have a question I hope you can answer. The refine edge tool is no longer working and I can't figure out why because it was working the last time I used it. I think Photoshop updated about a week ago. Maybe that's when it stopped working. Are you having this problem or have you heard of anyone else having this problem? I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop but it didn't fix it. Also, after trying to refine my selection and clicking ok, the results are nothing like they should be. It looks like it just picked random pixels all over the photo and the rest of the photo is blank. I'm very frustrated. I hope you can enlighten me. Thanks again.

    Hi! Love the tutorial you have here! My biggest question which I'm seeing in a lot of tutorials at the moment... is how do you get rid of that halo? it's almost like the background colour from the previous image has become a 'frayed edge' and is hovering around the image... is there any way to get rid of this? If so, what tools would you suggest? Thanks!!

    Hi Colin, love your videos but have a question that's confusing me.
    I notice you select a selection tool from the left hand side, maybe the Quick selection tool (W) then click Select Subject followed by Select and Mask.
    If I go straight to the top menu bar ignoring the Quick selection tool, click Select then Select Subject, followed by Select/Select and Mask, does it make any difference to the end result?
    I am finding if I click the new Refine Hair option after using both the above methods, the hair is refined very differently, it can be good or very bad.
    Am I doing something incorrectly?
    I would really appreciate your comment as this is driving me crazy.

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  2 года назад +1

      Depending which tools are selected will change what is available in the top. I only choose the "magic" tools to reveal the select button. How you get there makes no difference on the selection. Hoever, there is a color aware or object aware option, those give different results. Try both on each selection and use the one that works best.

    Colin, I agree we have come far as far as extractions, however... if we can put a Rover on Mars, don't you think PSCC should have this down to perfection? I think they should. Even cutting out against difficult backgrounds should be a piece of cake, but it's not, by any means. Adobe has a long way to go. Thanks for your tutorial.
