  • Routing Through: Greater Manchester - Episode 4
    The next episode of Routing Through sees me travelling around the biggest hub of the brand new Bee Network. Bolton sees a majority of routes under both Diamond and Go North West, so today is the first fully yellow (well, fully Bee) episode of the series! We get to try a whole heap of new intakes for Go North West and Diamond, including one of the lovely ex-Go North East and ex-Demonstrator Volvo B5TLs, which may potentially be joined by a pair from London later down the line.
    The fourth episode, travelling around Bolton on plenty of the new Bees, sees us clear;

    Last rode the Withins and Great Levers routes on the last day of Atlanteans back in 2001!
    I do like Bolton, though, with my last visit also seeing me leave on an electric on the 37. They're very nice but the second wheelchair space really restricts capacity downstairs for those who need it.
    I take my Bolton lunch breaks at the Olympus Fish Bar, though, which TfGM conveniently built the Interchange next to! Integrated bus, train and chips!

      I did initially say where I went on the day, but they're currently in hot water since recording, so cut it out 😂

    Excellent enjoyable video again Lucy!
    I'm impressed by those bus stairs at 33.55.
    I have never seen windows on the stairs on any bus before! 👍🙂

      Stagecoach's new Volvo BZL DDs in Cambridge have windows on the stairs too, looks very slick

    Excellent action packed video, Lucy. You did well to cover all those routes in a single day
    I like the idea of Bee Network, with integrated bus/train/tram ticketing, so I hope this concept is adopted elsewhere (I'm also glad the London Travelcard has been reprieved for the same reason)

      Yep! I know West Yorkshire council now want to look at this for cities like Leeds, that Nottingham is also considering it, and that McGill's has kicked up a fuss in Edinburgh as the council are pushing for it to start by the end of next year.
      The ironic fact is, the private companies will complain, because franchising is built to not run for profits, but for passengers. It means its usually bigger companies who will try it, like Stagecoach. But if the largest operator in the UK can do it, why cant you try?
      Overall though, Bee Network will be the best thing to happen in Manchester for years
