    You gotta wonder how weird it is for Alabama or UCLA or whoever to hear the whole stadium singing about how much they hate Texas when they aren’t even playing them

    • @diamatiz_
      @diamatiz_ 3 года назад +44

      You have a point. But both UT and A&M's fight songs are about each other since they've been rivals for years. But it still could be awkward for the other team

    • @patrickmcdaniel2048
      @patrickmcdaniel2048 3 года назад +36

      I was wondering about that. A&M scores a touchdown against Vanderbilt, then they sing about how much they hate Texas?? That's some rivalry there! Too bad we can't get Texas in the SEC. Guess it's more important for UT to be somewhere that they can feel more elite than the other schools in the conference. If they moved to the SEC they wouldn't stand out as much and that'd be too much like being a second class citizen for them.

    • @tamuman93
      @tamuman93 3 года назад +12

      Before the split of the Aggies vs the t-sips, that game was once the oldest, long-standing rivalry in college football. Of course, since our sweet breakup, that stat no longer stands.

      @@tamuman93 what's a t-sips?

    • @tamuman93
      @tamuman93 3 года назад +24

      @@patrickmcdaniel2048 - it’s a derogatory nick name that Aggies have traditionally applied to people that went to Texas university. First, since Texas A&M was founded first, we are “THE” actual university of Texas. Thus, the label “tu” for that other school in Austin.
      But the term “t-sip” came from the old west days. College Station was just an Army outpost - way out on the frontier. Life was very rough and tumbly, so you can imagine the type of characters that existed out here (in College Station). This place wasn’t even a town back then. It was just an outpost (or ‘Station’).
      So the people out here were know to drink a lot of whiskey and get into brawls. They were mostly uncivilized and rugged cowboys, frontiersmen and tough military men.
      Austin, on the other hand, was considered to be more civilized and proper. The men were of a more genteel nature and therefore better mannered than the plains men around the College Station area.
      So, instead of whiskey, which was an improper and reserved for the ruffian (considered as devil water), Austin gentlemen drank tea. Perhaps real or not, they were often characterized as even properly sipping it while in public.
      So even before the Aggies slaughtered their mascot and served it to them at that famous BBQ event, we have referred to tu fans as t-sips (short for tea sips).
      Hope that helps!

      It makes me laugh every time.
      The only song we have about them goes like this: "Pooooor Aggggieeess" and we have sung it after each of the 76 times we beat them, especially their last Big 12 game and their last SWC game :D

I knew the game would be a blowout, but with a fan-base as dedicated as those Aggies, that stadium was completely packed. They *easily* had 100,000+ fans at their home stadium for a Sun Belt vs SEC match-up. I was very impressed to see something like that. Much respect to y'all once again! I watched an Argentine league Match between Rosario Central and Estudiantes de Rio Plata and the sound of 50,000 fans singing the same song, at the top of their lungs, all un unison is a thrilling, unforgettable experience!

    To me, and he Aggie War Hymn has kind of moved on in a way. Just like our relationship to Texas.
    “Goodbye to Texas University...”
    We finally beat ‘tu’ by leaving those ba5tards behind and moving to the SEC. What a great move that was for us.
    So goodbye to them. We’ve moved on to bigger and better things and now refuse to be defined by the world according to their definitions.
    A&M was the first public University in Texas, yet we were always somehow in the shadow of tu. That’s where they wanted us to stay and they wanted us to play by their rules.
    So as an old Ag, that fight song means something different to me. Texas A&M is now the largest and premier university in this state. No doubt about this.
    The eyes of Texas are no longer on them. Just hearing them say otherwise sounds like hell!
    They know this and it makes them squirm all the more. And that makes me sing the Aggie War Hymn all that much louder - whether we play those ba5tards or not.
    Sweet Victory Indeed.

      Sorry I'm just getting back on youtube. I can't tell you as well as someone born into an Aggie family (I traveled across the country there for my masters), but I can give you the gist. Basically, TAMC started back in 1876. The Morrill land-grant act was passed earlier in 1861 (each state has 2 -- traditionally white and traditionally black; TAMU being the traditionally white -- TAMU is now the nation's only land, sea, and space grant university). Later (5 years), the state decided to open up the school in Austin, but in doing so they tried to get rid of A&M. Texas AGRICULTURE & MECHANICS University, also a very well-known and established military school with a large corps of cadets (4,000-ish to this day), was essentially under fire. Alumni and a lot of people jumped in to defend the school, and eventually the school got through and stayed open. Now.. this is dandy and all, BUT despite being the state's large land-grant (handling extension services -- Prairie View A&M being the other, smaller), t.u. (or UT) receives, and I don't know the exact numbers, about twice the state funding that TAMU does. However, TAMU is still thriving thanks to the 1,000,000+ members of the Association of Former Students. The rivalry stems from the 1800's when they tried to get the Aggies shut down, to politics, to present day state funding, to sports, to anything else... but the Aggies always stand strong. Whoop!
      Hope that helps a little. Like I said, I'm not the best or most qualified, but that's a general rundown.

      john Dorkus we had the same fight song for over 100 years, we do not change it, it is titled the aggie war hymn for a reason, I do not care if the horns are mentioned in the song, it is like saying goodbye to Arkansas university so long to the red and white, or goodbye to Louisiana state university so long to the purple and the gold COME ON, WE WILL NOT CHANGE THE SONG MAN

      @@Hogman3100 I really have nothing against Aggie fans. They support their team VERY WELL. I agree - it is great for people to share something positive that they have in common, especially in these times when the country is tearing itself apart at the seams. I was just trying to give a HISTORIC Bruin comeback its moment. But don't be so thin-skinned - I am sure you have heard MUCH worse about the Aggies from others.
