Birdy flying his Feral gyrocopter, Part 1

- Birdy uses his gyrocopter to "muster" (round up) cattle on a cattle station in Australia. Rob Dubin stopped by for a visit and filmed Birdy doing some demo flying. Birdy is a professional pilot and the manuevers you see should not be attempted by novice pilots. For more information on gyrocopters see www.pra.org and www.rotoryforum.com.
Thankyou for useing the sound of the machine. It helps the realism of the video, much better than the usual music[ or some such noise] on many video's,
That's the best "circling approach" I've ever seen. Fantastic!
Good god that guy knows what he’s on with, forget the runway I’ll just land in the hanger lol!
Much respect from the UK
This guy is so good as a pilot it never gets old watching him
Need more current footage of him, he has exceptional flying abilities
Fantastic skill, Birdy, well done,Your Scottish fan club!
Hard to believe the military doesn't use these things.
Awesome video, thanks for posting it.
Very nice flying.........it was insane....makes me want to sell my home and get my own gyrocopter!!
Wow thats some great flying!
I want one...
Best pilot I have ever seen! and I am a Pilot! Ok only 9hrs gyro but 10,000+sim time which means nothing! bt that landing, sweet mother of jesus I would give everything just to get him to tutor me.
Wow !!!!! Man this is the best set of flying video on RUclips!! well done you guys..
This guy is a one man airshow.. I would buy tickets for sure...
They should make another Mad Max movie.. just so he can be in it !!!
Gyros don't stall. They can simulate a hover with about a 10 mph head wind. If there isn't enough wind to hover the gyro will slowly start a vertical sink but it's not a stall.
As Clint said in one of his movies, a man has to know his limitations. It's obvious, Birdy does. Great flying!
love the landing
Larry Neal's gyrocopter's Emperor and Monarch appear
to be the most airworthy of all.
They have a tough landing gear,
that allows even a drop like a rock!
An sudden need to land is what hurts!
Got to get a flying machine that will pull you
out of a dive even if when you do something stupid!
He's alive and well. Birdy isn't bold. He's a pro. Big difference.
Excellent dude!!!!
that guy is amazing!
That landing!!
Its really incredible what Birdy does with this tiny machine! I wonder why it has no horizontal stabilizer.
He's able to kick the ass end around quicker without a horizontal stabilizer that's why especially for mustering
Hey Birdy, no wonder your moos start runnin' when they see you comin'... I reckon Rob was about to start running too a couple of times LOL I reckon the trees would have run too if they werent stuck in the ground hehehehe Well done mate
Whew! Birdy has an organic feel (the hippy in all of us) for gyro flight characteristics or a death wish. Might be nice to have an update video on his health.
Both those links are redundant pra is 'under construction' and rotoryforum is discontinued.
Birdy is a risk taker. Not always a good idea in the air.
that guy is friggen good!
Not a Brock. Birdy's gyro has a Rotax 912 not a Mac.
crazy crazy crazy... you is crazy
AWESOME FLYING SKILLS! How long did it take Birdy to get this good?
A good used gyro is around $10,000. New single place machinse start around $15,000.
no they cant, they can appear to hover in a head wind, but they need forward momentum to stay aloft. the pusher prop is in the back (it pushes) and the main rotor works off of its drag, in the drag a lift is also created... there are google videos about gyrocopter design theory... it think..
Damn you're brave, bet that was a rush. so I guess horizontal stabilizers aren't needed after all!
It has been a long time since we have seen newer clips of Birdy flying. Did he retire?
I don’t know. I sold my gyro due to some unexpected things that popped up in my life in general and I dropped off the gyro forums and I haven’t kept up with a lot of the gyro community.
@@tchick what is the, I guess now old saying or verses in the song? “ If you have not heard from someone, it only means they didn’t call.” Time and effort, Freely given to obligations, like in my case, raising a family and scraping out an existence, takes precedence to aviation. You will do so with no regrets till one does retire and then damn the torpedoes! I’m going to build or buy the dream which has been shelved for all these years before your body or mind says you cannot.
@@tchick You we’re fortunate to have experienced aviation when you did and we were fortunate that you shared your experience with us. There is an incredible tug aviation has. It’s like the pull of the Kite’s String we felt as a child. It never leaves us. It’s hard to explain to others, what the air feels like when you are sitting just under the wisps of clouds. The air is cold but 100% saturated and to draw that unique air, with deep breaths, into your lungs is simply fantastic. You’ll make your way back.
It started out as an Australian make. Birdy has modified it quite a bit.
What a pro
Why is there no tail stabilizer ?
Well, he seems to have gyro flying pretty much sussed out, doesn't he. Is he still alive?
Rotax 912.
Very Godd.
what this engine, please???
Rotax 912
Base Jumping anyone?
