  • Figuring out how to navigate nighttime POTS adrenaline surges can be frustrating. You waking up wired wondering if you'll ever be able to fall back to asleep.
Waking up in the middle of the night can a sign your autonomic nervous system is having some issues.
It was one of the first ones for me. I'd lie in bed with my mind and heart racing wondering what was going on with my body.
Your autonomic nervous system is shifting into fight or flight and giving you a surge in adrenaline.
From my own journey with POTS and working with clients, these surges are often related to what is going on during the daytime or leading up to your bedtime.
    Here are some common reasons:
    - Maxing out your energy that pushes your body into a stressed state in attempt to keep going
    - Experiencing high levels of stress during the day without putting on the stress "brake"
    - Giving yourself insufficient time to wind down before bed to shift into rest mode
    - Reacting to environmental stressors like foods & chemicals that set off alarms (common with MCAD or MCAS)
    - Getting dehydrated or imbalanced with electrolytes stressing the body trying to balance itself
    - Having blood sugar dips throughout the day (and night) from eating too little or unbalanced meals
The good news is all of these are fixable!
