It's okay, Steve. Don't beat yourself up over it! Honestly, I was just happy to see you went on stage with so much freaking confidence!! 🤩💖 I understand your pain though. I'm always overthinking and beating myself up over every little mistake I've made, even things that no one else would really notice. 😅
Listen.. your "failures" help us have someone to relate to, because none of us are perfect. You've helped me a lot since I've discovered you. I used to feel completely alone in having social anxiety, in fact mine was so severe that I was partially mute as a child and in my teens, but now I am able to socialize a lot more and be myself with a bit more confidence, especially after watching your videos and relating to you so much all these years. If you pay attention to live Yngwie recordings, he makes mistakes all over the place. He nearly never played the ending of one of the "Trilogy" riffs entirely correctly. Instead of ending the scale riff, he just hammers on a few faked notes to make it easier. Nobody notices, because he keeps such a uniform confident sound. You only notice if you think about what he is actually playing on the album. And he mixes his scales so often, you know he's not even paying attention to the chord progression sometimes. Nobody notices unless you actually sit down to analyze it.

I have caused such sonic menace & mayhem on various stages...from school Auditorium "gigs"plugging a single coil Strat copy (thru the bridge pickup - no notch pozish! Didnt really know about them!), a Peavey Bandit solid state practice amp dimed to the nth! Feedback & 60 cycle hum.. literally making audience members plug their ears with their fingers/palms, lol!
... Poorly tuned (as us from the pre-clip on tuner days only know - a time when we had to tune by ear backstage with no amp, or piano for reference notes...all over the noise of whats going on on stage before you...
Add to that that we never rehearsed, in fact, it often was on impulse that we would ask to perform, and..we would just "talk through" whatever song we thought of that morning.
Like, for example....we did "Pure Massacre" by silverchair (which, were a great little Aussie grunge/hard rock trio of the 90's that found some international success)...
Where...I had only just that morning worked out the main riff. (I have since learned that it is in Drop D - which suddenly makes a whole lot of sense. I was playing it wrong in an inferior and awkward way.)
And so I showed the bass player...and then with the drummer and singer (who, iyf course, was not a good singer - he was just the kid that would get up and do it!) and we'd just map out the structure of the song.
      2x thru intro riff
      Verse 1
      Pre-Chorus
      Chorus
      Verse 2
      Pre Chorus
      Chorus
      mini solo over intro riff
      Verse 3
      Pre Chorus
      Chorus
      Solo over intro riff ×4
      Bridge
      Chorus ×2
      Key change Chorus ×2
      Back key change Chorus ×2
      Big finish on D
And we'd go on, with no practice, no sound check...no proper tuning to make sure the bass and guitar/s were in tune with each other..
And...we would spend the first awkward minutes on stage plugging in, tuning AGAIN!, this time amped, so that I - along with the whole auditorium - could HEAR it....and wheel the amp to the front..
By the time we were ready...the crowd was usually already murmering amongst themselves, and giggling and I would already be red in the face, knowing I'm making a goose of myself in front of the girl/s that I liked!
Aaaah good times! Good times indeed!! 🤣

  • @reed00112
    @reed00112 2 года назад +69

Got some words for you Stevie! Hope you hear them. Here it goes.. You suffer with savage Anxiety, me too dude. You've avoided live playing more or less your whole life, but as a guitar player you insanely talented! The thing is this .. Playing live is a whoooole different ballgame than recording at home. Building your abilities and knowledge and experience as a live player comes with the experience of live playing and it's something you learn and it's totally separate from your skills as a guitarist. The only reason you didn't do as well as you wanted AND the only reason your taking this kinda hard is simply because you didn't ever build the live stage experience before becoming famous. Literally every famous guitarist makes mistakes on stage allllllll the time! You learn eventually dude that it's 100% normal to do that.. And the audience really hardly ever hear or care about the odd bum note. You are an amazing guitarist, and this does not take away from that. It's actually fun to watch you go from total anxiety to one successful gig and then total overconfidence and a heavy fail (in your own eyes) Because that is literally the trajectory of every guitarist who starts out in a band playing gigs. BUT with stage time and experience comes a lot of realisations... Not all gigs will go well, some gigs will go INCREDIBLY well. That's normal. Some of those gigs you will play flawlessly, and some you will hit some wrong notes. That's normal too. Sometimes you'll be confident and sometimes you wont. Also normal.
The key is that with more stage time you will eventually learn that none of that stuff matters. All you have to do is have a good time and practice as hard as you can. Focus on having fun and making sure the audience has fun. Yeah it wont always be perfect but it DOESNT matter!!! Tell me man, you really saying you havent seen at least 2 videos from any live performance of any guitarist you love where they didnt totally mess up? Everyone does! Including great Steevie Teevy Teevus mcgee.
We love you dude. Keep smashing these live gigs and building that stage time and knowledge and your true confidence will grow (not the ole hype confidence you had after DF!) And you can work your way up to what i think is your next level as a guitarist, a touring musician. We'd all love to see it and i pray for you my man you keep smashing these gigs and getting this rolling. I've followed you since the beginning of your channel! Anyway, i have a gig Tuesday, feel free to fly to the UK and rush my stage ;) Big love.

Most of your RUclips career is a demonstration that even guitar gods can make mistakes in their solos, so your failed solo is just a confirmation of it. Anyway, i'm really happy that you managed to beat your anxiety and shred on stage in front of a live audience! Your story is truly inspirational not only for new musicians, but also for all kind of people with anxiety problems!
Steve, you're a great musician but most importantly a great man

Also, FWIW, you have excellent stage presence. You belong up there.

Stevie, I always appreciate your videos. I know they are meant for laughs and you always deliver. Your technical skills on guitar have always impressed me. When I was auditioning for my first band, the lead guitar player said he liked the way I played and that he would give me a chance. He mentioned that it was one thing to be able to shred in your bedroom, but another thing completely to be able to be able to pull it off in front of a live audience. I think you are doing your subscribers a service with your humility on this video. The remedy for this is to keep playing live.

Stevie T, nor you or anyone will ever see this comment but I just wanted to say I've been dealing with crippling anxiety lately. I never had any problems up until a month ago. It's been remarkably devastating to say the least. If this is what you went through or go through currently then I completely understand why you didn't tour with Dragonforce full time. I didn't understand it back then but I do now. I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of your content but I am a musician myself and I have enjoyed some of your videos. Music has really been helping me so I imagine it's beneficial to you as well. Anyway after hearing that part you said at the end about overcoming anxiety together, I got a little teary eyed and hopeful. Thanks for making me feel better.

I have crippling anxiety as well, and I’m a techno Producer and always wanted to DJ, I got an Idea to wear a halloween mask while performing, and it helps with my branding and also with my anxiety, I’ll have my first Headliner show next friday, and I’ll open for a group of touring DJ’s in a few months, everyone with anxiety has to find that one thing to bring comfort in the crowds and for me it’s my mask and I’m in love with it.🎉 You’ll find yours, friend! Keep dreaming big and working your ass off, and you can do anything😊

Dude, Anxiety is no joke and the fact you were able to overcome it or manage it well enough to perform is far from a fail. I work as a mental health social worker and experience plenty of my own anxiety on a daily NIGHTLY basis. EVERYONE suffers from anxiety, this is how we are able to show up on time to school, work, pay bills, TRY not to break the law.. It's all in how you process your fears, anxiety, trauma ect that allows you to manage in a society that is the cause for g.d triggering events. Good on you kid. I really enjoy your content. Keep it coming.

Know what Steve, it's all good because you had the confidence to just get right on up there & play. I would love to sing, but there's no way I'd ever get up in front of thousands of people to do it lol You were extremely brave so don't let this minor mess up dictate what you do in the future! I'd love to see you show up on stage in future live performances😊

@@SteveTerreberry Guess the way you fight it is by just evading the pressure and anxiety. What I learned for myself, is that you don't oppose anxiety with confidence, you just don't think about anxiety. Sounds easy, but it can only come naturally, in my experience.

Dude, excellent humility in dissecting your solo this way, and 4/n notes while just dipping in mid-song is a beyond-acceptable casualty level.
I played a gig once where I'm pretty sure I made mistakes in every solo I played in the set... and I heard nothing about it so I had to suffer in silence. 😆

Stevie you might have hit a few sour notes there, but you being able to breakdown your performance and understand what went wrong, and act on it constructively shows great maturity as a musician! Ive played at a local blues bars open jam night for years and I swear I hit multiple sour notes when I'm up there almost every time in my leads. I've played for 17 years and am mainly a lead player. But still far from pro. But I don't pause or stop, luckily I keep going till the solos spot is over. The crowd usually enjoys either way. But man oh man am I hard on myself afterwards. Always think it could go better. It's interesting cause I suffer from major low self esteem and anxiety over pretty much everything, but I feel pretty enthusiastic when Im on stage. I guess it's as they say "a high". Or something... Biggest crowd I played for was 2,000 people at a benefit. I played the US national anthem and hita few sour notes cause of nervousness. I practiced it so many times too. I guess it was to big a crowd for me. I've done multiple openings for bowling tournaments with 300-400 people pretty fine though at least.
