Y'ALL, the "mysterious block" is just an early version of the structure block! And the white lines are the lines that appear when you select a structure with a structure block.
I was a part of this and manage the r/MinecraftClues subreddit! This ARG such a blast to solve when we were working on the puzzles back in the day. I still have that copy of Indie Game: The Movie, and it was indeed a great watch 😄. Huge thanks to Searge for running it and coming up with such clever puzzles, I'm sure he must be really proud that it's gotten attention again! I left the unsolved mysteries post in the hopes someone might pick up the clues in the future, and at the time I believe Searge did want to continue it as you mentioned, and unfortunately activity fell off and never picked back up, and so did the motivation to make more puzzles. If anyone continues it I'd be stoked to see where this goes! I'm not sure how much Searge planned out from here on, but perhaps if everyone works on it, it could be motivation to continue it? 👀 I recall he mentioned there were several ideas he had still wanted to explore back when I met him at GDC some time after our puzzle solving foray first ended. Maybe it's time to revive the subreddit again... As for where we left off, if you visit the subreddit, I've pinned a post with some of our docs that document our findings from when we were solving it all. The last puzzle we left on with the red square should be it. In the comments, someone mentioned they found Searge hid the following sentences that say "it's still on, people just stopped looking" and "It never ended and this is what it evolved into."
I love how each video has a unique style in the editing, most notable in transitions, with ‘The Decayed’ sprawling out in tiny digital roots, showing it’s artificial intelligence theme, that the people stuck in the digital world are alive, and the bars dissipating in this seems to look very much like the game glitching, perhaps a reference to the idea that an official Developer was creating something unseen in Minecraft?
I remember this ARG. I took part in it. I remember at that point we were starved of new content and updates in Minecraft. 1.8 had released 7 months prior, and there had been no snapshots since then, and it had been 7 months of total radio silence regarding the next update. I followed and tried to solve this ARG all day, just hoping there would be SOME hint of what 1.9 would be. I had major exams in 2 weeks, but the prospect of some Minecraft teasers was enough to make me play hooky for the day and take part in this ARG. When the promised prize turned out to be some random Steam code, and no 1.9 spoilers whatsoever, I was pretty fucking pissed.
I remember that, people were already pretty annoyed by that point because solutions didn't make a speck of sense and you always had to wait for new input from the creator. Add to that the measly final reward and you can see why this ARG was forgotten by most.
@@NA-nz9lv How disappointing the final reward was is the very reason why this has stuck in my mind. Ironically, if it HAD been some 1.9 teaser, I likely would've forgotten it by now.

I was able to find something really interesting the word Itzlipofutzli is not a word at all but someones name. A Aztec Goddess. Who I can barely find nothing on other than a few images (because the ARG ruined her name) she is referred to as either the Obsidian Butterfly or the Obsidian Goddess (“OBSIDIAN”) I just wanted to point this out because the name sounded and is spelt very Aztec to me and Im just a huge historian. I hope this helps.
Hey! I’m happy I’m not the only one currently looking into mexica (nahua / aztec) deities!! I’ve looked into the name as well, however all I got was Huitzilopochtli, a solar deity.
