I am brand new to piano but I have been playing guitar for 40 years(badly). I love country piano so thank you very much for this post. It's my mission to learn this song with all the gorgeous fills. Thanks again.
Love your videos. I’m still learning to play piano. I took lessons for a while when I was seven years old. I had an ear for music and tried playing by ear. My teacher told me if I didn’t stop trying to play by ear I’d never learn to play. I’ve proved to wrong! I’m 82 years old and playing about anything I want. I play in key of C and wish you would do more tutorial in key of C. Thanks for this videos! They are very helpful.
I too was told by my piano teacher that I had to stop playing by ear - which I was good at. How wrong she was and it messed me up for years. It takes all your creativity away..
I would like to thank you for this lesson. Since the COVID hit I have been stuck at home. I have been teaching myself how to play piano and this helps a lot. Thanks again!
Thank you for your lovely video.. I played guitar all my life, so I'm trying to learn the keyboard.. I find myself getting more into country and blues because of all the technique involved.. It keeps me practicing more..I'm getting older so it great to know I can learn every day!
Thank a million. I'm learning the piano step by step - your presentation is great. I've subscribed and plan to learn much from you. It is a pleasure to listen to your method of teaching.
You're very kind. Thank you. In my early years I was a "tornado" pianist, playing everything I could. Obviously I thought I was getting paid my the note. But a good friend loved me enough to hurt my feelings and he introduced me to what I call "commercial style" piano playing, where less is better.
I understand that professional sound guys observe all these minute details about micro-distortions, clipping, etc. but as far as I’m concerned the sound quality of Martin Gureasko’s tutorials are excellent.
Thanks Steve. I do constantly worry about the levels because despite my background in worship ministry and professional performance, I'm abysmally ignorant of the tech regarding streaming and such. Hopefully the videos get better each time.
Thanks Martin for sharing your knowledge with all country music lovers. The song is so beautifull(less is more) Your time and efford are well spend, explenation is so good. Now i must get that country feel of the chords. 10 points from the Netherlands.

I actually use Garritan Abbey Road for my piano sounds. I load up a patch in Logic Pro and then use that. My keyboard is a super-cheap Casio I bought years ago and I only use it as a controller. Currently my favorite Abbey Road Patch is the Classic Solo Piano 1 patch. (In Logic Pro I also use the EQ to boost the bass a little so it isn't so thin sounding when streaming online.
Hello Mr.Martin (sir) praise the Lord. Let Almighty bless us in these Holy Week Services nd also to celebrate the Ressurection of Jesus Christ. Thanks for ur good teaching along with singing a very beautiful song with chords. Really I felt so happy that as if I was at heaven. No words to express my joy. Awaiting more lessons from ur kindselves. Happy Easter. Almighty bless u nd fmly members abundantly nd fulfill all ur desires for ur scarificed life. Take care. Bye.
If you were to record some instrumental albums of classic country favorites on piano, I would listen to them. Especially if you stayed true to the original arrangements. You don’t find that much these days.
Thanks for the upload, it's really hard to find examples of how songs are played by instruments in a band, when you buy piano-vocal-guitar sheet music for instance the right hand piano line will include the melody and many of the actual piano fills will be left out. Makes it hard to learn to play the piano part of the song as it should be properly played.
Thank you for this tutorial. This is a part of my style. A large part being Floyd Cremers contributions. I naturally gravitated to this style..as a rhythm and lead guitar play this style. Most country and gospel music have many of the same licks and these licks transfer very nicely to the piano. I totally agree completely just a little on the left ghosting so the band doesn't step on each other..
The next day, I had to search and find this again Martin. What a great voice and with such feeling. I'm an old guy but would love to play this on my Yamaha Clavinova but I have Macular degeneration so I can't really see all those little black buttons or even know how to set the Clavinova up to sound worth a s**t.
Thank you. I loved this lesson on RUclips. But since I am a beginner and old I would be helped if I had the note on a sheet not only the cords. Can you help me? Jörgen from Sweden
Thanks. I've been in limbo for a long time trying to decide what to do about my blog and this channel. I am working with a guy right now to get both up and loaded with plenty of videos. Stay tuned.
Once somebody learns the economy of motion movements, piano playing becomes less forced and much smoother. Thanks for the tips. Even though I play this style..always looking to learn something or review..
You and me both! I scour the Internet all the time looking for new licks and fills, etc. I'm actually thinking of going back and taking some lessons at the University of Delaware. I've got a Rachmaninoff piece that is kicking my butt...and I don't have the technique for it. :)
I ran across your piano playing style on You Tube by accident and it caught my eye and ear. I want to know more about the numbering system. I can read notes from a Gospel Hymn book with 4 part, and that's about it.
I'm working on my own book about the number system, but there are several great books already out there. If you are familiar at all with scales, learning the number system is a piece of cake.
Hi Michael, excellent question. In naming intervals, name the interval in relation to its distance from the root. Since we are in the key of F major, C is a 5th away from the root, or F. The note "C" is the 5 of the scale. It doesn't matter if you play the C above the F or the C below the F, it's still a one-five alternating pattern. It is true that if you play the C below, it looks like a fourth, but the C is functioning as the fifth of the F scale. That is why I say "alternate the one and the five." Hope that makes it clearer.
You can download the chord chart by clicking the link in the description above. There is no written music (sheet music). This particular style of playing is a broken-chord style accompaniment and perhaps in future lessons I can notate the various ways of playing this particular style.
Found a really good site.. it's for beginners and up .. The guy is doing the 736 progression and have a lot more resources. Do have a public email address.
I love the music. I hope I can learn to play it. I'm curious how you get the graphic of the keyboard and notes played at the top of the screen. Is there software that does this?
The graphic of the keyboard is a free program called vmpk. I simply created a channel in Logic Pro and direct it to that and the keys display whatever I'm playing. There are several other apps out there that do this as well. This is the one that I found years ago and I've never switched.
Martin Gureasko ok I'll check into the app.. how do you get it into your video.. I'm an old TV tech, I'm capable but not up on all the programs.. I took computer programming on a ibm 370 at college.. learning Fortran.. we had to enter things into computer by Punch cards.. back in mid 70s..
I didn't create a written transcript, but did to a chord chart with some performance notes. You can download it here: martingureasko.ipage.com/transcripts/today_loving_again.pdf
Oh yeah I just made a toy piano video. it was out of tune and the video was poor.. but it was fun to make.. I don't know how to link, but you'll get a kick out of it.. I'm not going pro anytime soon.
I think I'll make this comment separately. The piano makes sound full. But I know your a pro, but beginners have a tendency to play the melody..sometimes that's ok.. but I like to leave some room for the guitar lead.. I cut my teeth on Chet's albums.. lifting the needle and stealing the next lick.
Public confession...I played the melody for years when I was first starting out. A friend of mine, who was a much better musician, gently moved me away from that. He reminded me I wasn't getting paid by the note.
Martin Gureasko That's funny. Sometimes a friend can say something that by another would hurt. I like solo playing but there is lot to said for 3 piece bands.. I always like to have a bass in the mix. The sound of a bass is percussive and let's the piano delve into different styles.. Of course Victor Wooten is his own band.

Am I missing something? At the beginning you say to alternate the left hand with the one and the five but your playing the one and four. Am I wrong?
Hi Michael, excellent question. In naming intervals, name the interval in relation to its distance from the root. Since we are in the key of F major, C is a 5th away from the root, or F.
