How wonderful! Let's each of us protect the environment by planting and taking care of trees. If everyone has a small garden, our planet will always be green. Wishing you good health and peace
This was so much fun! I can't wait to see the sectional in place with all the planters behind it. Then we will hop a flight immediately and come visit again to help plant them up! Miss you!
I hadn't known about Eric and Christopher before. They are darling and so knowledgeable. I am so excited to see how you transform your new space come Spring.
The three of you are so sweet! I'm so glad you have a friendship with Eric and Christopher, 2 of my favs. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but now live on the East Coast in NH. I enjoy both of your channels so much. I'm excited to see how your new space evolves. I'm sure it will be amazing. I love your screens.
Grow for me gardening Christopher and Eric brought me here I subscribed right away I love their channel and I like yours already. You have a beautiful garden thank you for sharing. 👍😊❤️
A nice size potted Japanese maple chartreuse color -> firey red would look great under the pergola! Full moon variety would be beautiful 😍. Really looking forward to your journey!
I have been designing gardens for many years, so here are my suggestions for your new space. I hope you will try the ones that seem exciting to you. Weeping Larch (sun) Var. Japanese forest Grass, Jack Frost Brunnera, Britt Marie Ligularia, Sum and Substance Hosta, Liberty Hosta. For the sunny spots, perennial Hibiscus, annual Hibiscus, Sunpatiens, and a red banana tree. Evelyn from Ontario Canada.
Hi Bethany. I found your channel thru grow for me gardening. This was a delightful collaboration. I definitely agree w several evergreens. Super easy. Oakleaf not a good idea.. they are fantastic in the ground but very finicky in pots so avoid them. Instead consider the endless summer series lace cap hydrangeas are super easy & beautiful. They bloom from Spring to Fall. I have twist n shout. Yes clematis are super easy to grow in pots. May I suggest a Japanese maple tree which are shade loving with carex grass or Japanese forest grass which all are super easy to grow in containers.
Hello from Green Bay! How about an Ivory Halo dogwood? You can easily control the size of it and it will give you fantastic winter interest with the red branches. I have one in a shady location and it overwinters nicely in its pot outside.
Just found your channel ❤wondering what happens with your pigeons in the winter ~I have a dove who just showed up this summer and she has stayed ~I am in Alaska🍃
I’m not sure! This is the first year they’ve ever hung around me. I know they don’t migrate south. I may have to provide them with some winter spots on the deck 😆
How amazing that you have this blank canvas! If you wanted to add a shade tolerant evergreen shrub, Golden Duchess Hemlock would look really lovely in that setting. Not sure how it performs in containers but they’re definitely very winter hardy. p.s. Fun crossover, it looks like you all had a great time!
We had so much fun! I’m definitely adding this evergreen to my list. I feel like this is going to be the longest winter ever bc I just want to get planting next spring 🤣
This space is going to be so beautiful!! I’m of fan of both of your RUclips channels and Instagram pages and it’s so cool you’re swapping ideas. I think Chicago is zone 6a. I’m curious, do you find your space is warmer than 6a because you are higher up or because of the cement which I’m assuming can make it warmer? Do you find you can grow zone 7 plants? I assume you don’t want to move the pots on this deck for the winter so I’m curious what zone you can push in containers.
My rooftop decks are definitely warmer! Plants start to open much earlier up there than at ground level. I’m curious to see how this deck compares. My plan is to still do two zones colder for plants out here but I’ll also probably try pushing it as well!
I have a Lady of Shalott, I would never describe the color as any shade of pink…it is a orangey shade of coral. It’s beautiful, just not pink. It also gets very big in ground, not sure about containers. Are all the plants discussed able to withstand your winters in containers, like the shrubs, roses etc.

What an unexpected surprise! This is so special.
How wonderful for you! The guys have great design sensibility. Can’t wait to see your garage deck!

It’s going to be the longest winter ever bc I’m going to be so antsy to get it all planted!

I would love the color of a dogwood in winter! Adding that to my idea list.

I still have to check on zones. I want at least zone 4 to try to have it survive over winter outside
What about the metal orbs in your pots like an Eric and Christopher have!
I should definitely get some of those!
Moon garden?
Definitely more white flowers on this deck than my others!
Awesome video. Have you got my invitation of testing mini chainsaw via email today?
I don’t think so. To my chicagogardener email?
