  • On the video I share a couple of thoughts about my picking hand and how it is important to keep it relaxed. I have found out that the position of my hand made a tremendous difference on its ability to stay relaxed while playing.
I hope you learn something from this video and feel free to share your thoughts on the comments! :)

I personally like alternate picking and legato combined together like Paul Gilbert or Eddie Van Halen. I just do prefer the sound at the end but there is nothing wrong with playing or practising straight alternate picking.

Me too! I like the sound of it the best. But I feel like good alternative picking skills only help in that style as well. For me there is also a place for staight alt-picking, like tremolo picking licks ☺️

My pick tends to rotate after a couple of mins.. any suggestions for that? I use jazz 3 max grip and I pick as hard as I can.. should the grip be like.. choking the pick?

Hmmm... Are you experiencing any stiffness on your picking hand?
You don't need to play as hard as you can, instead you could try to play as gently as possible. You should not feel like you are choking the pick.
It sounds like you might need to slow things down and focus on having 100% control on your playing. That might mean super slow tempos. Then once you gain more pick control you couldstart finding the speed by playing faster.
Hope this helps! No matter what you do, keep picking😎🎸

@@lassikuusela hey thank you so much for getting back to me bro.. I feel stiffness above 160 BPM.. working on Speed burst exercises.. when I go above 160 feel stiffness in forearm and I stead moving from wrist, movement starts from elbow..

I went down to a .88mm Dunlop Flow (Yellow One) and that helped me. Plus not slanting so much helped too. Also need to focus on downstrokes being equal to upstrokes.

This might sound counterintuitive, but practice with a lighter pick grip, as well as lighter pick attack at slow to moderate tempos. When you start playing faster after a practice session like that, you'll see that your pick doesn't move as much and it feels easier to play at faster tempos for longer chunks of time.

Thanks! And once you are able to play slow using this right hand position, it suposes that is time to go up to the next metronom level? Cheers!

Yea, sure! And I do try to keep 100% control when practicing. So the key for me has been to NOT play to fast which happens so easily. But then again I also do try to push the speed with burst practice etc.

The superstrat is the most comfortable form of guitar, put your hand on the bevel and relax, that’s all science.
