One of the most significant fights of the century. I remember watching the fight live, and of course being a child, we ALL were rooting for Ali. We all just assumed he would win because he was 'Muhammad Ali'...but as I've grown I've come to appreciate the enormity of this upset. I truly feel this victory is what stamped Ali as The Greatest of All Times

The Rumble In The Jungle was rigged. The ropes were loose, Ali kept grabbing Foreman around his neck, and the ref did nothing about it. Finally, Ali riled up the locals against Foreman by telling them that George was a Belgian. There was no need for that unless Ali was worried about losing

Ali taught the world that courage and skill prevail over the most ferocious and extreme punching power. He reminded the world why the sport is called “boxing” and not “punching” or “hitting”. But skill without the courage to execute it simply is not enough. Ali brought the world , East -West, North-South, together, if ever so fleetingly. Ali: The Greatest of All Time.
I was 14 at the time. Now, so many years later, I appreciate the luck of having experiences history in real time.

Then this fight had never happened when and where it happened and never at this scale of 1 billion viewers worldwide. He wouldn't have become who he became during that time without that life-shaping experience. So stop talking rubbish, as if you of all knew what would have been if this or that had happened, while kindly leaving everything that evidently happened out of the equation. Just hubristic and dumb. It's all good as it was for him. You just wanted to throw in some bits of trivia, like Ali was banned from boxing. So what? Bragging works better without making inane conclusions from it, if you're trying to lecture, or it has the reverse effect and you suddenly look like a fool.

Ali proved time and again that he could take a punch and slip punches better than anybody. I think that no boxer could beat an in shape Ali at his and their peak. As Archie said, if one tatic did not work, Ali had the smarts to find another way to beat his man.

I watched it with my dad. He thought ali had magic powers, or hypnotised foreman. But when he saw it again years later, he said ali was avoiding a lot of punches with his skill. But what a lot of people who talk down this fight, saying ali just laid on the ropes, dont like to see is the fact that ali started off in centre of ring taking the fight to foreman. Ali also out muscled foreman, he actually looked bigger, and foreman couldnt shove him around. Alis ability to take fearsome body punches, and return them with lightning combinations aswell, make this top of the pile for me. Physically and mentally ali was in total control. It wasnt even close. No other fighter could have wooped foreman then. Ali the greatest ever

Thing that strikes me watching the fight again is Ali's hand speed, typically beating Foreman to the punch and countering with laser accuracy. This was as sharp as Ali ever got since he came back. Almost the same hand speed as '67, but a different style.
Also, the most under-rated finisher in all of boxing. Ali's overhand right was one of the great power punches of any boxer, ever. Time and time again, when he tagged someone with that, they were OUT.

I'm not a huge Boxing fan but Mohammed Ali transcended boxing. He provided a role model that inspired his younger opponents. Only one other boxer attained the humility & status of Ali & that was George Foreman. He testified that on the way down Ali had loaded his right but declined to fire it. That gracious act of sparing Foreman the coup De grace "made Ali The greatest fighter of all time", in Foreman's own words. Ali whispered to Foreman when fighting for the WHT when 38, "George you're gonna be The Champ!". Ali wasn't wrong. Although George lost that fight he came back victorious to win the title, people's hearts & earn a place in History alongside The Greatest.

      You can't be so sure.
The hunger, speed, power, viciousness and boxing IQ that a young, still trained by Cus Tyson, would have gave Ali all he could handle.
You can say he beat Liston, Frazier, Foreman etc of course but I can say Spinks, Frazier and Norton gave him trouble and beat him too.
Similarly to Tyson, Ali lost a chunk of his prime and did the bulk of his losing after his hiatus and Mike after his prison stint.
Mike only ever lost to Buster Douglas in the upset of all upsets where he took him extremely lightly, apparently had clamydia and his groin was burning all match and he had run into a buzzsaw of a man possessed in Buster, who lost his ailing mother 3 weeks prior and she had told him he would win it.
If prime Tyson fought prime Ali, it's most definitely not a foregone conclusion. I think Tyson has a good a chance as any to deal with Alis strengths and not get psyched out by his antics.
Most people were already beat before they stepped into the ring against either all time great.
Tyson lost some luster after Cus' death because he started partying and doing drugs and wholly becoming consumed with fame and fortune.
Had that not been the case, clearly he also wouldn't have went to jail either and I'd say could've held up well for another 5-8 or so years comfortably on top.
The old Tyson would have frustrated both Holyfield and Lewis too and each of those guys were all time as well that at their best would have given Ali a tough time as well.
Tyson was special in that he truly had it all. He was and actually remains to this day, a very devoted student of the game. Really a professorial type grasp on the intricacies, strategies, history and essence of the sweet science that few have ever had, do currently or will ever.
If you've not heard him talking boxing, give it a listen. He lived, are, slept, breathed boxing and Cus corralled his strength, aggression, insecurities, feelings of loneliness, a sense of being and gave him direction.
He was totally lost after that and slowly started to show decay and rust as he leaned into his celebrity status and partying lifestyle and away from training etc.
His ego was part of it too. Cus would tell him m he was the greatest and gave a young boy confidence to do what he did.
After that, people like Robin Givens, Don King and other nefarious people who had no interest in his place in the history of boxing were the types he surrounded himself with.
Mike was too immature and unready to face the world by himself and nobody else could bridle the beast.
Many forget just how dominant Mike was, how young he was and how feared and seemingly indestructible he was.
Many folks wouldn't even step in the ring.
So no, it's not a foregone conclusion that Ali beats him, not by a longshot. I think Foreman, Liston, Norton, Spinks, Frazier could have been beaten by Mike too.
What could have been in both cases will never be known but to speak so definitively is foolish.

That right hand lead was more important than the rope-a-dope or lose ropes or trash talking. It gave Ali a weapon to neutralize any Foreman offensive. Anytime George got in a rhythm, Ali would snap a right hand lead. It's such a "disrespectful" punch. It confused and frustrated Foreman and set up everything else Ali threw at him. That was Ali`s masterpiece, and my first boxing match. I was 9years old. Since then I saw every Ali boxing match, they showed in German TV. Til today I know, that I was a little angry, because they didn`t showed the Inoki battle. Now i know.

I was 13 and went to bed on Saturday night pretty much convinced that Ali had no chance. My mouth was agape on Sunday morning when I read that Ali had KO'd the indestructible Foreman. That fight and the "Miracle on Ice" were the two sporting moments in my life that I was literally left speechless.

Ali vs Inoki is not worth watching. Its not a real boxing match and there are hardly any punches thrown. A sad display of greed by promotors and managers which has nothing to do with the sweet science.

It's funny how everyone doubted or failed to see the genius of the rope-a-dope at the time, even Ali's corner who were yelling at him to stop, lol. Looking back though they probably laugh while kicking themselves realizing that "Hey, if Ali really listened to us back then, he might have very well lost. God damn we screwed up by not realizing what he was doing, lol." ;)

  • @TheGreatest1974
    @TheGreatest1974 Месяц назад

Not many people mention Ali’s gameplan which included laying on the ropes, yes, but that was all lulling George into a false sense of security- at which point Ali would literally EXPLODE with hard fast accurate punches, stunning George every time. In fact it was exactly one of these ‘bursts’ which eventually ended the fight. But if you watch the whole fight many times as I have, you do notice these sudden and shocking bursts of activity from Ali. I really believe that Ali KNEW that one of those timed bursts would end the fight. And he did it with the most wonderful GRACE it looked like Foreman was getting ko’d by a ballet dancer. THE GREATEST heavyweight stylist there has ever been. One tough, tough man. 💥🥊

Back then, there was no way Ali was going to win.
Or so we Thought George punched himself out. One of the best things about Ali was, he could take a punch. I remember reading back then. That Foreman lost 30 pounds and 6 weeks or something like that.

Being in the Ministry like he was for so long of a time made George more amiable and more of a "people person". Also, there was a level of maturity during that time he was a Minister. I was so glad to see him do as well as he did.

    ALI is the #GreatestForever.
Thousand more years, this world will revolve on its axis...BUT there won't ever be another #MohammadAli
He told Forman "you might be big,you might be tall...if you mess with me, you sure will fall"
He told David Frost- " If you think the world was shocked when Nixon resigned, wait till I whup Forman's Behind"
when asked about his predictions for the fight ALI said " if he (Forman) doesn't get me in seven, his parachute won't open"
And it happened exactly as he said it would, ALI fooled the world, proving once again that he is #GreatestOfAllTimes

This video along with 100s of others I watch always have ever since being a child absaloutley anything to do with Ali t shirt, poster, jacket, absaloutley anything I ever saw to do with Ali I had to get it even if it meant saving up weeks, I was definitely the happiest man ever when I managed to buy a Ali signed glove that I bought in 2003 paying £4500 at that time gutted I missed the robe he wore against foreman that sold for £8500 I only had £7000 left that night I couldn't believe it tried offering £10 to the guy that bought it the American definitely 1 of the best things I've ever owned and now he's gone I can't belive it although as he told us also the words from the religion of Islam 1 thing guaranteed in life is death. I was named after the great Ali I git into boxing because of Ali. I absaloutley loved him and still do with all my heart. For those from uk Scotland that know me indeed I was more than named after him I had many attributes like him so I was told throughout my life named by all the Scottish newspapers front page as always Mohammed Ali the Liberton Lip instead of lousivile lip until my boxing journey was cut short by a terrible accident after beating the then undefeated Barry Hughes who later went on to become 2 time world champion un beknown to me I was fighting in the most racist part of Glasgow furthermore a orange club I had no idea of thus organisation after the fight going home to celebrate a grooling fight but victorious as always jumped and hit on the head with a heavy blunt object like hammer waking up driving home to not waking up being left paralysed from neck down however by the grace of ullah made a full recovery nvr will I forget the day still not able to talk waking up to see Prince naseen Hamed at my bedside before his first ever Scottish fight before becoming world champion undisputed also a legend anyhow made a full recovery become a good businessman hence managed to buy nicer things in life still my biggest regret not going to meet with Ali despite almost getting the perfect opportunity wasn't meant to be I guess may ullah reward him the highest place in junnah Ameen. I watch this fight and have for decades at least 1 time every 3 month although definitely not his best performance but certainly meant alot to him and the world as first time ever he was the real underdog why I have no idea!! Still maybe easier said from me as boxing isn't the way it was then. Clearly the rope a dope he invented Ali even said many times the frazier fight 2nd 3rd Norton victory meant more to him personally however world wife definitely foreman. I read all these comments as I said anything to do with the GOAT I have to know everything or try to add my 2 cents of no value of. Course except to me where I feel I'm able to correct a few people at least with facts and knowledge rather than loose sometimes stupid comments from people that really clearly don't know their arse from their elbow. Anyhow some of the comments are really pissing off to say the least. FACT !!!! PARKINSON DISEASE IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN CATCH IDIOTS ITS A ILLNESS SO WAS NOT DUE TO BOXING OR ELSE EVERY BOXER WOULD HAVE IT FACT, however I will agree that yes possibly didn't help matters furthermore Ali really only started feeling the effects after just post the spinks fight and most definitely I wished he had retired for real after this fight without doubt the Holmes fight would and should nvr had happened again personally I believe if he had fought him without the stupid injections he had been taking for about a month but upped it crazy style 10 days prior to the fight without telling frecheco as he refused to participate in Alis career after the foreman fight anyway to loose weight indeed it stripped the weight along with all movement of body hence he was a punching bag for 10 rounds wtf it's unreal makes me angry to the core however proves 1 thing that I shall talk about after but fuck Dundee as Ali only kept his hands up after throwing the very first jab right hand and not a single punch for 10 rounds WTF and yet Holmes the dirty fucker trys to get complimented for defeating Ali gtf fkn prick personally if Ali wothout them injections had fought Holmes I think or pretty sure again Ali would have definitely still pulled it out the bag as clearly he still was a totally different guy when the drugs wore off although nothing compared to even the foreman fight but still average boxer level he was no problem so would have handled Holmes as he did for all the time he was Alis sparring partner and learned from the greatest and I get so bloody riled whenever I hear him trying to talk like he beat Ali Ali wtf talk about deluded he annoys the feck out of me along with frazier does too however I understand frazier being the way he is as he and Ali really were something else complete mirror's of each other determination ways etc although Ali was just so eloquent fluent and total panache of excellence and excitement and unfortunately frazier was at the receiving end off the jibes obv just couldn't get his head around the business of Ali and realise punch drunk level of the man would not still till the end accept the fact that it was just business on Alis part and as a result got 10× what they or indeed any person from any sport would or could ever ever achieve fact is was solely as a result of the King Ali that sports persons or personality started getting paid crazy amounts indeed becoming the norm before becoming stupid as is now still 7-9 million yo a single person was unthinkable ler aline achieved as the king did I think Holmes also made 6 million fir the Ali fight. Laughable u will hear even within this fight at 1 point frazier is asked a question and cut short when he started waffling about when he fought foreman and what he did Hahahahaha getting cut off mid way ignored!!! And throughout his career Ali lived in his head rent free and that cut him up and destroyed him even when he was old still trying to get digs in always always trying to take the shine of Ali but he lost 2 times fact and can't handle that so will say oh he can't enjoy his money hrs responsible for causing the disease that the GOAT suffered from and u can tell these comments come from resentment although before death actually accepted it fir real that it was business and the drama the slagging become normal since their fight especially. And again Holmes always trying to talk to make themselves better than Ali bloody fools as both especially frazier could never string a sentence together without any illness and Holmes struggling to talk over his bottom lip sounds like maybe just a country boy hence has no grace although speaks using words rather than frazier sounds grunts etc thats the part I dint like Holmes is only talked about simply due to Ali or else nothing he had the devision when it was over until tyson and we all saw what the Ali fan done to him as a result of the Ali fight and promised the next day when on the phone to cuss that he would whoop him bad style and indeed 4 years after he was brutally kod by tyson exactly as Ali asked prior to even the start of the fight in his ear get the sucker anyway now to this fight I'm 45 since the age of about 12 I have watched this fight alone min 1 time in every 3 month but each and every month without doubt have watched Alis fights at least 1 time a month I didn't get to know my father and have always in my head thought and said that my dad would be exactly like Ali and in a different world definitely my biological father
