Your photograph at the end just left me with a giant "WOW" feeling. Love watching your videos and I am learning so much from you! Please continue to make videos and maybe cover a waterfall one. Thanks!!!
Thomas, this has to be one of the most emotional images I have seen in some time. Your composition so gracefully displays the raw heat of the earth, glistening in the golden hour's sun rays. Incredible job, Sir. Your work is an inspiration to us all. - LJF
Your judgement may have been clouded from that hike but you still had the presense of mind take that image, and I'm happy you did. It is a fantastic shot. I love it. Thank you for sharing.
I love the final shot, goes to show that sometimes you just need to take the shot because it may come out better than you think. The leading lines of the previous lava flow with the break between the current flow and the sunset bringing in the color are just magnificent. On the other end of the spectrum, you should check out Alaska. There are a few glaciers that have nice hikes out to them and on them, some have some great ice caves too that you can go into.
the joys of a RAW file +ThomasHeaton what an awesome picture to end with, lovely leading lines and a picture no one else will ever have again!!!!!! amazing stuff :-)
Well, that photograph is amazing. So much for you not liking the composition at the time. The curved lines leading into the glowing hell-hole are great with so much detail, and beautiful sunset light too. Good work!
Incredible video, Thomas, and the image at the end of the red lava was outstanding. Must have been worth risking life and limb hiking over the lava fields!
Technically it is an HDR shot. By using a partial ND filter, you're increasing the dynamic range in the photograph. Basically the same thing as combining multiple exposures. Nice work, love your enthusiasm :)
Great video Thomas... let me know if you come back to the island. I️ will get you to the lava. By the way the viewing area you shot at along with most of the cliff side and the lava delta all fell in to the ocean.
Great image from this video Thomas. I watch your every video and love what you do. Just keep going. I would love to see a few of your post processing videos. Cheers
Love the textures and layers of your image...a cracking photograph! I know you had your sights set on the lava- but there are images to be made from those black lava fields...the textures and forms create a martian landscape. Cool stuff- and great video :)
Yes, I agree. The problem is that I was focused on the red stuff and wouldn't stop until I found it, which was a bit of a gamble and meant I probably missed some nice detail in the black stuff. It's the way it had to be, unfortunately.
You didn't think there was an image there and then you show one of my favorites and I really like your work, but that one caught me off guard because you seemed so disappointed by it leading up to the reveal. Great work once again
Another cracking shot Thomas, the foreground detail is fantastic. Merry Christmas and I look forward to a 2017 with lots more of your excellent videos. Cheers!
Thomas, another inspiring video to go out, see the world, thank you so much ! there is a Traveller Luis Vargas who have mentioned in a video instead of Hawaii or hanalulu, visit big island of Hawaii for active lava. hope this will help next adventure of yours and another great video of yours for people like me. Great work.
Great video. While you are shooting your feet walking across the field I see some beautiful textures and shapes. potential for some macro and intimate landscapes. I enjoy your videos and look forward to your next instalment.
Yes, I agree. The problem is that I was focused on the red stuff and wouldn't stop until I found it, which was a bit of a gamble and meant I probably missed some nice detail in the black stuff. It's the way it had to be, unfortunately.
Was in Hawaii a few years ago just prior to some massive eruptions, Did take a helicopter flight over the volcano and got some shots down inside, that was my first look at real lava! Your image is stunning! The teasers at the end are killing me though!!
Love the image at the end Thomas, thank you. Also, the link to Fine art: My first art festival is a great video too, really feeling invigorated to go out and shoot now. Thanks and keep up the great work. :D
Stunning end result Tom, but could you tell me the camera settings please. It would be great to see this info each time you post one of your final compositions as I struggle as a newcomer to know what the best settings are. Many thanks, keep up the great work!
I've been photographing as a hobby for a year and I'm thinking about getting some lava shots. I was wondering where and how you got to that location. Thanks!
What a roller coaster. Kept creeping more and more towards the end as I started to realize there wouldn't be a photo, then in the last few seconds you left me thinking "Oh wow let's see wh---Holy shit." Amazing shot.
Thomas, I thought the whole time: lava flow or not, the cave MUST become a great picture especially shortly after sunset. I'd even say it is one of your best. Such a magnificent piece of photography for which you took serious action. I'm glad you had a deep look into your RAW files. Cheers, Lars
Great stuff as always mate, I paid tribute to your use of the word "Composition" in my recent vid about street shooting in Tokyo. Glad the hike paid off, cracking image.
What a fantastic experience mate! I can only imagine what the hike was like. I love the different patterns created in the lava field, I bet you could spend all day just photographing those couldn't you?! Your final image is superb, you really can pull back the detail in the shadows as Canon have claimed. I'm glad you had a guide, your wedded bliss could have been very short lol! Anyway, take care, happy Christmas (your first as a married couple is always special) and all the very best for 2017!🍀👍
Thanks a lot. I could have photographed the black lava, especially the fresh stuff, it was amazing. Unfortunately I was focused on finding the red stuff, so never stopped for a minute. Totally needed a guide, it's so easy to fall through the ground in to lava, as you can see from the skylight.
Thomas Heaton I could see why you needed a guide, it would be suicide to venture out there alone! Would you still need a guide to take pictures of the black lava? When are you back in the UK?🍀👍
Thomas bringing the HEAT ON.
Might make this the title of my next book!!
Your photograph at the end just left me with a giant "WOW" feeling. Love watching your videos and I am learning so much from you! Please continue to make videos and maybe cover a waterfall one. Thanks!!!
Thanks a lot for the mention at the end, Thomas. Great video as usual.
Fantastic as usual, the leading lines of the lava field in the foreground really draw the eye into the frame
Wow! That last picture blew me away, so beautiful. What I like about your videos is that you are so down to Earth
Blimey I can just image your face when you pulled that image out the bag... fantastic detail in those curves leading to the skylight. ..wow.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some, although it didn't seem like you "lost" at all. Beautiful image! LOVE the texture of the dried, black lava.
Love the sweeping lava in the foreground Thomas. It makes for a very "alien" photo. Very cool stuff!
Thanks a lot. I'd love to see what you could do with your 10x8
Those images are absolutely stunning Thomas... Fantastic work!

That image is incredible Tom. Good job, and thank you for allowing people into your adventures. Extremely motivating.
I love the final shot, goes to show that sometimes you just need to take the shot because it may come out better than you think. The leading lines of the previous lava flow with the break between the current flow and the sunset bringing in the color are just magnificent.

You're such an inspiration. You make me want to work so much harder on my photography.
That's very kind, thank you.
Wow - stunning photo! Amazing patterns in the lava everywhere you walked too.
Yet again another outstanding image. Winner !!
Amazing image and a testament to the time, effort, and patience that went into it.
Thanks a lot, I had hoped for thick, flowing lava, which might have contributed to my feeling of disappointment on the day.
Love your work. a photographer who can make an image in any situation.A grate inspiration for beginners.
Thanks, although I wouldn't say that is strictly true. I have a lot of failures too.
Absolutely phenomenal. I love it Thomas.
Wonderful shot! Mother Nature never fails to surprise!
You're right there.
the joys of a RAW file +ThomasHeaton what an awesome picture to end with, lovely leading lines and a picture no one else will ever have again!!!!!! amazing stuff :-)
That's a good point, I guess it is one of a kind. I very much doubt anybody could find this Skylight, even if it's still there.
Thomas Heaton very much doubt indeed and the new lava would look different anyway and the sunset won't be the same, one of a kind indeed 😃😃
That photo is "absolutely stunnin"! ;P
That picture is like from another world. Great shot.
Thanks a lot.
Love how you are showing what it takes to get your great images! Great work!
Thanks a lot. Yes, it's not always easy, but it is always worth it.
It's amazing what lengths you go to, to capture your images. And it definitely shows!
That pic at the end of the video is amazing!!!
Wow! what a superb image - so much interest in shapes and colours. Your video's Thomas really do inspire to think about composition. Great stuff :)
congratulations Thomas : the ending night picture is stunning, it it shows from the footage !
Awesome Thomas, hope you include that glowing skylight in your 2018 calendar.
What an absolutely fantastic images. One of my favourites made by you, and I have been following for a while.
Wow! what an experience and you created a super image into the bargain!
Outstanding image from my home Island
Wow Thomas, I think you nailed it, if I had taken this stunning image I would be shouting from the rooftops. "Lovely Lovely. Compassion " :)
that certainly is a great picture at the end of that long track, very worth it
Thank you very much.
There is no way to explain the excitement i feel when i see my email saying "Thomas Heaton has posted a new video" It makes my day.
Ha, thanks a lot.
Great photos! I like all your photos. Thank! Thomas....,
Oh my god that final picture is amazing!
That's very kind, thank you.
What a beautiful image! Well done.
Wow. What a superb shot and indeed the Canon Mark4 is a great cam deserving of a great phototgraphic mind behind it!
Well, that photograph is amazing. So much for you not liking the composition at the time. The curved lines leading into the glowing hell-hole are great with so much detail, and beautiful sunset light too. Good work!
That's very kind of you to say. Thanks a lot.
Incredible video, Thomas, and the image at the end of the red lava was outstanding. Must have been worth risking life and limb hiking over the lava fields!
Yeah, totally worth it. It usually is.
Oh my! Absolutely stunning 👍🏻👍🏻
That's very kind, thank you.
This one was just something else! VERY nice!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
We get the best when we least expect!! Great shot Thomas!! Keep up the good work :) looking forward for more videos from you..
Thanks a lot, I think I would have seen things differently if I wasn't so exhausted with the long hike and more so the heat!
that was like a thriller ! Enjoyed the video a lot. The new hints at the end of your clip guide us to very interesting places, thx for that too!
Thanks a lot, i hope you enjoy next weeks video.
This is gorgeous!
Superb image there Thomas.

Omfg, so beautiful! Congrats Tom and merry xmas brother! Keep these gorgeous frames coming:)!
Inspirational as always.
The final image is awesome !!
Thank you, sir.
Next weeks is THAT Sunrise!! It was a stunner!! I commented a picture on your Facebook post, From the North East coast.
Ah, probably the same one. It was a belter.
Technically it is an HDR shot. By using a partial ND filter, you're increasing the dynamic range in the photograph. Basically the same thing as combining multiple exposures. Nice work, love your enthusiasm :)
absolutely mind blowing !
That's very kind, thank you.
Making the most of Canon dynamic range :)
Great picture... again!
Looking forward to your new videos!!
Thanks a lot. The DR is much improved on the MKIV
Mark IV has better dynamic range at ISO's 400+ than d810 has, and there is a tie at ISO 200.
Great video Thomas... let me know if you come back to the island. I️ will get you to the lava. By the way the viewing area you shot at along with most of the cliff side and the lava delta all fell in to the ocean.

That's very kind, thank you.
Ooey gooey lava is on my bucket list too. Great to see your adventure and that image really captured it!
That's very kind, thank you.
Season's greeting Thom. Much thanks for sharing your experience all year round. Wish you a very happy new year 2017.
Thanks and same to you.

Being a dbz fan, I loved that the "Kamehameha" sign just happened to show up in your video at 1:54 Great video by the way
You didn't think there was an image there and then you show one of my favorites and I really like your work, but that one caught me off guard because you seemed so disappointed by it leading up to the reveal. Great work once again
Great foreground!
I agree with Ben, it seems an "Alien" scene somehow jeje. the texure is really amazing under a beautiful sky. Congrats once more.
DAT photo at the end 😍
Thomas, another great vid, with a cracking shot love it.
Thanks a lot and thank you for watching.
beautiful images
What an amazing place to visit and what a stunning picture you ended up with.
Thanks a lot, that's very kind.

Another cracking shot Thomas, the foreground detail is fantastic. Merry Christmas and I look forward to a 2017 with lots more of your excellent videos. Cheers!
That's very kind, thanks for watching.

Thanks a lot and thank you for watching.
Hey I live in Hawaii glad you came. Keep up the good work
I've been photographing as a hobby for a year and I'm thinking about getting some lava shots. I was wondering where and how you got to that location. Thanks!
Also what gear (camera body, lens, and tripod) did you use?
Not bad! :) What an interesting place to see close-up. Must have been quite the experience. Glad you opted for a guide :)
Definately needed a guide, it was difficult to navigate and had lots of hidden dangers.
Looks like you got a great photo there in the end. Well done. :)
What a roller coaster. Kept creeping more and more towards the end as I started to realize there wouldn't be a photo, then in the last few seconds you left me thinking "Oh wow let's see wh---Holy shit." Amazing shot.
Hey, thanks a lot. Glad you enjoyed it. I really must learn to wrap things up properly in the field.
Amazing capture.
Thank you.

Pretty nice image indeed Thomas
Thank you, sir.
Great shot, keep the wonderful videos coming :)
That's very kind, thank you.
That image was amazing!
Thanks a lot.
great shoot. Mate. The landscape Reminds me of something out of the alien movies
Thanks a lot!
Great stuff as always mate, I paid tribute to your use of the word "Composition" in my recent vid about street shooting in Tokyo. Glad the hike paid off, cracking image.
