I want to use the l8 as an onstage mixer only not playback so id throw a mic in the instruments. is it possible to just use the effects to eq overall sound and the reverb part as an overall effect rather track by track? trying to keep it simple onstage. Just trying to e and reverb for the room in other words. Thanks your videos are very clear and helpful
Ordered one of these mixers but not for live sound mixing or to be my home studio since i have a pretty advanced studio , but to mix in-ear monitors for the band and to record the live shows so we can export the audio files to mix them with cubase to replace the go pro crappy audio lol i figured 4 tracks for drums bass guitar vocal and one ambient mic will do the trick
Thank you for this informative tutorial. What do you think is the best way to insert a backing track into the L8 .( Accompaniament pre recorded as an mp3 or wav file?)
I haven’t heard of that, but I do experience the volumes will mute until I activate all track volume sliders up and down. Zoom said it it to protect last settings??
The effects on the L-8 are HALL1, HALL2, room, plate, delay, chorus, vocal1, vocal2. I consider the Hall and vocal effects to be reverb as well as the room. So, in my opinion, there are several reverb selections though it doesn’t specifically call them “reverb”.
I do need to start. I haven’t used it enough to make sure it records what I want when using the L8 to record the L8. I know it only records the effects to a master mix.
Deb Great instructions Question: I thought that you can add effects for a track before recording takes place. However, am I correct that in this video you are adding effects to tracks After they were recorded? My basic question is : can you apply effects Both before and after recording? thanks
Thank you for your review Deb ❤. Can you please advise if the compressor and Mid Shelve eq on L12 will make a big difference or is L8 sufficient? The mic channels are 8 vs 6 and price is almost double. Also, How does the effects on L8 compare with the Lexicon effects on Soundcraft notepad 12? Thanks
I love the zoom effects and prefer them over the Soundcraft. I haven’t had a chance to use the L12 so you’d better served to contact Zoom for that. If you’ve been watching my vids you’ll know how much I love Zoom products.
HI Deb, So, I'm confused about something. From what I gather, you can't assign different effects do different channels but at the same time you said the blue settings are for individual tracks but the EFX dial is in blue. What does that mean? I also assume you can't assign any more than one kind of effect to a channel.
You can use the pre-assembled(?) effects and they have different tweaks you can make with them. There are a few different ways to use external effects with this unit. Try this link to find out about the different uses and setups www.zoom.jp/helpcenter/en/products/L-8/
Page 46 of your manual explains how to record and mix the master track. It shows up on the SDcard as MASTER. Watch for my video this week and I will show you hair to do it.
This is a really nice combo mixer especially at this price point. Everything I’ve tried to do on it has been successful. If you have any questions about something on it I’d be happy to do a video for you as I’m sure there are others wondering about it as well.
Nice tutorial !! When you record to sd card does it save all the scenes per fader ? And when you record to sd card does it record the channels with fx? And if I load a sd card mix , do I put the mode switch back
Your recorded songs are in .WAV or .MP3 (formatting you setup) no effects or pans. Everything is saved when you record the master file with all channels saved to 1 stereo file.
@@DebErney ah ok thanks for the reply ! So the master file when I save a project will have all the fader settings then ? I have the presonus ar8 now but need more channels , and honestly the presonus ar8 has been nice but just doesn’t have “that” good sound with my guitar gear does the zoom sound warm and analog ?
Thanks for the excellent video… I have a question… can you record a couple of channels that aren’t passed on to the master output? Eg… I have a DJ mixer and this has a Master and Booth out… will plug those to the L-8 via 4 XLR Chanel’s… Now, I will also plug a 🎤 into a 5th channel of the L-8… What I want is the following… be able to record every channel separately (I know it’s possible) But on the master I only want to have the mic and EITHER the booth or the master (of my DJ mixer) That’s because this is going from master to my ATEM for live-streaming. I hope this makes sense… Possible?! 😅
Hi Deb! I am a complete newbie here with mixer/sound equipment. I purchased the L-8 for the reverb for my sound healing (vocal and crystal singing bowls). I asked the salesman if I needed additional cables and he said no but my mics are all USB and do not connect with the mixer. Are you familiar with the hypemic? Am I able to use a hypemic with this mixer?
i also bought a speaker to connect to it a yamaha, and do have a cable for that one . i have no clue which cable to get that will allow me to connect to the mixer. are there adapters?
Enjoyed the video and found it very informative.
Great video
Thank you
You have a great voice, and guitar playing skills. I too have a Zoom product, your tutorial videos have been most informative. Thank you.
Thank you!.. for the great demo,it makes my buying decision easier!!!
Thank you Deb.
Very informative! Thank you, ma'am. All the best from Germany ❤

as far as I know you can. Setup the master output then you still have control over the individual tracks.

I would think .wav??? You’d have to check the manual.
My apologies, I may have misled you. Insert via 7/8 or channel one. I saw no reference to this in the manual. Love your vids.
Noise gate/expander effect would have been great.
Hello, I have a livetrak l-20 zoom, I wanted to know if it happens to you too, practically when I play just one track its volume increases, why?
I haven’t heard of that, but I do experience the volumes will mute until I activate all track volume sliders up and down. Zoom said it it to protect last settings??

Hi Deb, it's a great work you do, I'm wondering why you record on external recorder and didn't use the L-8 recorder option. Thanks You
I do need to start. I haven’t used it enough to make sure it records what I want when using the L8 to record the L8. I know it only records the effects to a master mix.
Excellent machine! I have one. Can you apply several effects on the same channel? I haven't tried it yet
What ever effect you choose will be across all tracks. One effect with different variations/settings per track.
Deb

One effects for all tracks, BUT you can adjust the intensity per track.
Hi Deb can you do a video on Boss Gigcaster 8
??? A search for this brings up a phone???
@@DebErney I watched this. But wanted to explore Boss Gigcaster 8. Seems to be better but wanted to get an opinion from an experienced user like you
@@DebErney Thanks for paying attention and taking time to reply to me

l @DebErney Thank you very much for your reply. Congratulations on the video : I found it very useful
Hi, just like to ask on how to transfer the master track with effect to my pc
Page 46 of your manual explains how to record and mix the master track. It shows up on the SDcard as MASTER. Watch for my video this week and I will show you hair to do it.
How do I save the file that has been recorded? separate files and joined files
Separate files. I use the .wav audio format. Each track has its own file.
can i use the 3.5 input to play song from my phone to the mixer ? . thanks
yes, with an adapter. I use this one amzn.to/3E5emtO
thank you
is this for recording or live performance? Or Both
Both. Really liking this mixer and learning the Ins and outs for it.

Hi. I understand you can use this device to record a phone call, but can you also record sound into your phone for video editing for example?
I haven’t tried that. Give a go and let us know.
Could you recommend a microphone compressor to work with zoom L-8
I have never had the need to use one. Contact zoom?
nice!
Great explntn…thankyou ❤
So nice of you
Is it possible to combine more than one effect at once ?
Unfortunately no.

@@akaixl83 I like Zoom products. They do tend to be a bit warmer, but digital is always going to sound a bit crisp and bright compared to analog.
Hi deb, so you can have multiple effects simotniously live?
You can, but every channel has the same effects even though you can dial in the intensity you can't select different effects for each channel.
@@DebErney thanks foe getting back to me, so that means I can have a reverb and delay at the same time? Which will be going to all the channels.
You can only select one effect across all tracks. You can download the manual from the website and see what it does and doesn’t do.
how about pan pot? pls help tq
Panning? Adjusts sound from left to right.
@@DebErney yes can you make any video for that? Tq
Thanks Deb!!
You bet!

this is a nice mixer because of its capability to input sound to mobile phones. but the fxs are not that good. I only like Vocal 1.
