That song was like the biggest thing ever in 1997! I can't believe that they didn't realize how many fans they had over here ❤
aqua and spice girls was everything back then ❤
I’m so honored to be born in the year THE masterpiece was released.
Not only in America… GLOBALLY! 😅
The song is ICONIC, she is so humble, bless her
@@marial1832and Steps
Okay but can we talk about how she’s SERVING opulence, glamour, and beauty. She’s still gorgeous all these years later.

@@Fjidudjskskdhfhdjlsk😂 not nice but the thought crossed my mind as well.
Barbie Girl was one of those "you had to be there" moments. That song was HUGE hit in 1997, and I'm happy that a new generation is discovering Aqua.
Fact and I’m glad I was there 🥹
The amount of rollerblading I did to that song in my friends garage cannot be measured. Huge part of my childhood
@@SpaceCatttttwahhhh 😭
I was there. Absolutely NOT a had to be there moment... lol
It was one of the few formula pap pop songs that actually worked.
It breaks my heart thinking about of all these years they spent thinking "It's over." ❤ They made their mark no matter what.
They left a permanent mark
She’s so unbelievably sweet. She deserves it all and more.
No baby YOU are @@sbsp0
@Wong_Shen Really?🤭
@Wong_ShenThe other is called Soren and she has 2 kids with him.
And what happened to her face. Looks plastic
Stfu you negative gossip girls and let her have her moment
I love seeing people be surprised and overcome with emotion it's so authentic and pleasant.
I love it too
So refreshing! 💕 💕
Tbh I'm kinda surprised to see people had such a POSITIVE reaction to this video 🤔... Almost all of the comments on RUclips are often negative, and there is a lot of harsh criticism toward celebrities. I immediately thought everyone was going to make fun of her in the comments, and they would find it cringe and ridiculous that she started crying out of nowhere... Lol, it's nice to see positive comments for once.
This is what happens when Hollywood reels you in, spits you out and you still solder on outside of the system for 20+ years... And are still Denmark's #1 musical export of all time...

As a 90s kid, I love seeing artists like this getting the flowers they deserve.
did she win an award? what caused the resurgence?
@@karlhans6678
The movie Barbie of course.
@@shizukagozen777 ik but why was she invited to there specifically.
@@karlhans6678
Because of the resurgence of their song.
❤❤
“Turn back time” was by far their best song IMO. Beautiful. ❤
This is my most favorite song of Aqua. Turn Back Time is just so timeless.
I love it too so much!
Dr Jones was brill as well
As a 90s kid, I was around when this song dropped and was humongous, I’m now old enough that there’s a resurgence, I’m so happy they’re getting the modern worldwide recognition
Same here
Right. It was massive. I guess the vibe of the culture of a era can never fully be realised by the following generations.
Eurodance was obviously not as popular as it was in Europe but it definitely was one of the biggest of the genre. I remember hearing it constantly as a kid in 1997. Its popularity was up there with "Rhythm of the Night."
@RAM_845 that is because you are old I am 45 and remember our parents thinking their music was better from ours. Every generation thinks their's is better when they become the elders.
@@BrutalistBoogie
And Gala "Nanananananana". 😅
It's insane to me that she's suprised by how big the song is. As a kid I never watched a single Barbie movie but heard that song everywhere and I assumed it was the main theme of the Barbie movies and shows and of the product as a whole because it felt as popular as Barbie herself was.
I think Mattel even tried to sue them at one point but changed their mind and endorsed the song. Don’t quote me on that but I was surprised to learn it wasn’t originally official or anything as it was so good
The lyrics are really suggestive though, so no way Mattel would have approved it back then as an official song, but it seems they don't care anymore hahaha.
@@SobrietyandSolaceI think you are right. There was a lot of great hits in 97. A lot of dance 🎉
Literally everyone in the Canada and states knows this song by heart
I don't think she is surprised by how famous the song is. She is surprised that they still have so many fans, because their One Hit Wonder is so long ago.
You can see how grateful she is for this second chance. This is heartwarming!
Very Sweet.
It doesn't hurt that the song fits perfectly with the movie. I'm glad they are still able to perform together all these years later. I wish them much success on their second time around 😎
Aqua’s Aquarium was one of the first CD’s I ever owned as a kid. I love the entire album so much to this day.
My first cassette
On one side was lollipop candy man
The other side was little richard
same here!! but on cassette
I remember putting the cassette into my dad’s ford truck in the early 2000’s and playing it non stop!😊
LOL same here! I was like in grade 7 i think.
Me too!
Aqua is one of the most underrated groups of the 90's. I'm so happy they are getting more air time-and we can always do with more. Their creativity is so fun and infectious!!!
I agree. Aquarium (first album) is fantastic, but I feel that Aquarius really shows their talent, she has an amaaazing voice if you listen closely to the less-nasal musical phrases.
Like so many groups from that time they had one massive worldwide hit and very few smaller ones and then disappeared off stage. It's sheer luck that the Barbie film dragged them back into the spotlight.
@@corriban Dr Jones, Cartoon Heroes and Happy Boys & Girls slapped, what do you mean? T^T
For a group that really only has one song that most people can remember....they're pretty much rated perfectly
Underrated…. No 😂
Turn Back Time by Aqua got me through my first breakup back in 1999... this band is EVERYTHING! So happy they are getting their flowers!
My favourite song by them!!😄😍💯
My favourite song by them as well
It was part of the soundtrack to the film Sliding Doors.
God, yesssssssss…
Aqua deserved more exposure & longevity than the late 90s
‘Turn back time’ was my best friend’s favourite song. He passed away in 1999 from cancer at age 24. I can’t listen to that song without shedding a tear or two now… 😢
I love how Soren looked at her when she started crying. Even though they're divorced now, he still cares about her ❤
They are true best friends and still love each other. But not exactly like before. They’re also a family.
Aqua is one of the best pop groups of the 90s and they deserve more praise. Their first two albums are gems. I love to see this resurgence.
One-hit wonder. Just a gimmick.
@@barrysuss4421 Uh....they had more than one hit. Three if my memory serves me right, the theme song from the movie "Sliding Doors" also made the billboard top 20 on the charts.
Awww... Lene! 😢 I went to the Chicago show and I was shocked at all the love fans showed to them. I know they hold a special place in my history and I know many fans feel all the love from the too
I hated Barbie Girl at first but now I love the song. I was taught the song from my Dad
I hate Chicago. My mom forced me to listen to them growing up so yeah my family and I can’t relate…
That whole album was incredible! Dr Jones, heat of the night, all bops!!!
"We didn't know we have so many fans in America" ... girl, Aqua is LEGENDARY to 90s kids in America!
I'm so glad they get to see now all of the young kids in the 90s/early 2000s who LOVED their music who were not old enough to attend their concerts. I was jamming out to "Doctor Jones" ... lost my mind! Never thought I'd get the chance to see it live!!
I’m unsure if they mean current or overall since it came out. Like, did they really not know, this whole time, how big of a deal the song was in the US? Or are they just surprised at the size of the current resurgence since the Barbie movie?
Their fame came way before internet and social media - so it's easy to feel disconnected from it when you're half a world away with not many ways to really know the true extent of your reach. Plus, when you're older and realize that you weren't just a flash in the pan and that people still love your work all those years later... it's hard not to feel very emotional. When so many artists disappear after a short time, she is so happy they've endured.
Literally everyone around my age knows that song it got tons of play on the radio dang man that really makes me feel old saying that!!! Meh it was worth it.
And out of America too!
Странные вы, американцы!) У нас в России любят всех старых исполнителей и они постоянно выступают.
They are so humble. The song Barbie Girl to this day STILL pops into my head every now and again. We still love you!
What about any of their other songs? They've released a few other albums after that.
@@farronfox I sadly never got into Agua (I was in sixth grade when I first heard about them) and went on the bandwagon of boy bands and the spice girls unfortunately haha my choice of music is so different now.
It's nice to see a band getting a second shot like this. They seem like really nice people who deserve a new success from an otherwise older piece of their music. Absolutely awesome!
I have never been a Barbie doll kinda girl, nor did I like this song, but her emotional response to it being included in the new movie touched my heart that I immediately streamed it!
I'm the same never really liked the song as a kid but seeing her emotional like that warmed my heart I have the song on a now this is what I call music might give it a listen
@sassygworl1452 wtf is your problem.
@@Tumbleweed_ they are projecting bc they are boring. that's why they have a sock account
Yall in the replies: Nothing wrong with basic and "boring." Not every second of your life needs to be extravagant 😂
I think there’s probably an added layer of emotions because of the turmoil they initially got from
Mattel suing them for that song… Beyond fans, also having that recognition by the company itself after so many years must be kind of cool.
It's not just Barbie girl, they actually have alot of really good songs
Yes!! Boom Boom Boom Boom, I want you in my room!
Dr. Jones is one of my favourites. I used to listen to it so much as a kid.

Very few songs are even recognizable two decades later, let alone be as iconic and transcendent as Barbie Girl. America loves you Aqua.

Detroit was a good show! 😄
I know this song has a special place in the hearts of all of us who cheered between 97 to the early 2000's! I still love this song. Lene's humility really touched my heart here. I can tell she really had no idea how much we love them!💙
Their humility is beautiful. That’s one of the biggest songs in the world. Always will be.
Aweee. Her song is my favorite on the album! Her openness is inspiring
You mean their album!

The song has ALWAYS been beloved, they just took it and put it in a hit movie, i will always love the original, staple of my childhood
Giving people their flowers while they're still with us is so essential. Nice to see them getting the recognition they deserve for a fantastic song...and by the way a dope Just Dance track also just sayin

Even in India during the 90's to early 2000's, a few of their songs were usually included in those unofficial "English songs," audio CD compilations.
Their music videos were also highly requested on MTV and Channel V shows and appeared on the top music countdown shows during that time period.
Lene, Rene, and Soren are incredible! We went to their show in Atlanta and had SO much fun. Their music is amazing, their energy is so much fun, and I'm so they're SO much more than Barbie Girl!! They were so ahead of their time!!
Are the kidding me Aqua's Barbie Girl is ICONIC!!!
I still have my Aqua cd. Love all the songs and their style!
Huge fan here! The entire Aquarium album is very near and dear to my heart! Teenage me couldn’t get enough when barbi girl hit my local radio station. I never grew out of them!
Forgot to say that good morning sunshine has always been my favorite song of theirs. It always annoyed me that the only song of theirs people knew was barbi girl. It’s like Baha men and who let the dogs out. That whole album was good but I guess that’s just how it goes.
It's nice to see genuine people that are grateful.
I could not be happier for them!! I went to their show in Seattle and it was one of the most fun, energetic, and enjoyable concerts I've ever been to! And the way the crowd was super into it must've been really great for them! They're amazing, and apparently they've also been working on a fourth studio album, so I can't wait for that!
That was so emotional she made me cry
They already had a resurgence before Barbie was released. They have been touring for awhile now. Love them either way.
Lene Nystrøm 26 years later, and she looks absolutely amazing! We've loved you and your song all these years, baby, and we still do! Major hit and a inseparable part of the 90's zeitgeist! ❤ Please don't cry and enjoy the success of the revival for new generations! I am the same age as Lene, BTW and I wish I looked like her! LOL! Talk about a doll perfect face!!!
All of their songs are so cool and they are part of everyone's childhood
I've been praising the entire Aquarium album since it was released and listen to it in its entirety almost annually. It's just so fun and overlooked, and was a staple of my 90s childhood experience.
I’m remembering now-“In the heat of the night, we are having a fiesta!” Haha, and “Roses are red and violets are blue; honey is sweet but it’s not as sweet as you.” Gotta love when he says “Come pick my roses!” And the beat drops. 🤣 it’s an iconic album.
Yes, cartoon heroes is my favorite ever
Exactly, same for me! So many fun iconic moments. Roses are red is one of my faves.
