Swindon Railway Works 30th Anniversary Closure

  • A short video to mark the 30th anniversary of the closure of the world famous railway works at Swindon. This was part of the Swindon Cable programme, 'God's Wonderful Railwaymen', first shown in 1984 before the closure of the works was announced.

    Steel - GONE! Railways - GONE! Cars - GONE! Thank you so very much all those wonderful politicians. Nothing like serving Pizza on minimum wage for a livelihood!

      Thank who signed the UNIDROIT Treaty in 1948. A Treaty is signed to end a conflict. We lost whatever that was. Don't forget helicopters and mining trashed here and not elsewhere.

    Most of our railway works were closed because the railways could buy cheaper from abroad, what was never factored in was the cost of mass unemployment and health problems.

    Really haunting hearing those Whistles sound for the last time.Should never have been closed.

      .gov had no authority to be in power nor close what did not belong to them.

    A crying shame. Must have been one of the last manufacturing and large scale engineering places in the country to close

    bloody disgusting swindon was a railway town and should still be a railway town producing what it new best steam locomotives not what it does now a fucking museam show piece
    fucking shame full waste of a good piece of rail way buildings and land .

      @@paullangcaster7909 bad timing from the govermentjust as every thing was set up for Swindon 150 anniversarylaira depot put on a bit of a show but not the same as what Swindon had set up even to day I still have the book of the locos Laura lined up for the event so sad it didn't happen for Swindon people where comeing from all over the world just for the event I still have the 150 badge as well great film keep them comeing

      What got me mate Swindon works repairs paxman engines for years and yet if a high speed train broke down it was dragged back to derby for repairs
