I've had the Wanderer Astro Powerbox Ultimate V2 for about 18 months now and its been absolutely rock solid.
Nice review. Regards.
Thanks!
How well does it preform compared to other boxes? With multiple power outlets being used, does it keep the voltage high enough across all for say example the stiff requirement a lot of mounts have?
I've only used Pegasus PowerBox v1 (installed on my second deep sky imaging rig) and Pegasus Mini (installed on 10" SCT that is on the background in the video). I think it's incorrect to compare them to Wanderer Pro V3 since the last one has many more features. I believe the closest competitor to Pro V3 would be Pegasus Ultimate V3, but I cannot tell which one is better since I haven't used Ultimate version.
Talking about "keeping the voltage" for Pro V3, I haven't faced any issues with the power supply / distribution, and I do a lot of imaging considering the amount of clear nights I have. For example, I got a little over 120 hours of exposure time on different targets over October, and all the aspects of the box were running smoothly.
@@AstroCreation ok and the voltages? Did you check to see if it holds/maintains voltage required for example the zwo AM mounts which are finicky?
@@johnsmith-rd9rr I haven't tested it with AM mount since I don't have it, but I haven't experienced any issues with the voltages drops during the imaging session with my equipment.
That 5.5x2.1 to USB C that you're using to power your Mele mini PC, where did you get it from? The cables I'm finding on Amazon are saying that they only work in the opposite direction (USB power brick to 5.5x2.1 powered device). I'm lacking a few brain cells, so I'm not sure if those would work with the orientation that you're showing.
I got the cable on Amazon. Here is the link to the one I use: amzn.to/40CkgOb
I also have an angled USB-C to USB-C adapter used here.
Im in the same boat. I think he's using the cables that came with the box. I custom made a couple cables for my mele's usb c power input. MOST usb cables include that power limiting feature which is why they cant be used in this scenario.
@@johnsmith-rd9rr I got the cable for mini PC on Amazon. The link to the one I have was posted above.
Get this over the Pegasus Powerbox V3! I have that product, and have had lots of problems.
Hey there! Thank you for sharing!
What kind of problems did you have with the box? I want to see if I can repeat what you experienced.
and which power box? they have 2, 3 versions.
@@johnsmith-rd9rr I mentioned V3 in my comment... :)
@@AstroCreation For my setup I had the powerbox connected to one USB port on the MiniPC, and the mount connected to the other USB port. I found the powerbox was causing the mount to regularly disconnect, and required it to be re-connected. This meant that guiding stopped working. I also found that sometimes the Pegasus Unity software didnt recognize it, and needed some time to 'find it'.
Things seemed to work better when the mount was connected to the powerbox, but that doesnt really work for my setup as I have the PC mounted to the pier, and I dont want to have a USB cord coming from the Powerbox mounted on the telescope back down and causing potential cable snags.
@@Fat-totoro-cat thank you for mentioning that you mentioned it
