i feel attacked by this comment
nah you already have more than enough storage
This is hurtful
no, that would be losing efficiency.
Yeah, what is up with people thinking they’re ever going to need this much storage? Unless you’re on the Sci-Craft server this project is irrelevant.
I'll add this to the list of yes, I definitely need this on my single player survival and is totally not overcomplicated for an average redstone enthousiast.
Me and a friend are making a mega base with it’s main feature being an easily accessible and well constructed storage system. We’ve been watching your videos like they’re scripture, can’t thank you enough for your work in storage tech!
Don't forget to read the actual scriptures as well! The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

You know Mojang needs to work with their inventory system when players need to go through all this madness just to keep it organized lol
Loved your work, this is truly mesmerizing~
Au contraire, I think the development of these insane systems is part of the fun. Maybe if an item filter was a single item, (maybe craft a hopper with the item you want it to filter) that'd be cool, but outside of that this is amazing.

Never clicked so fast in a video. In my I just finished building a Multi item sorter that we're using as a "temporary" base but I've been studing a lot of storage tech to make a bigger main storage and you're videos are simply amazing.
This sounds like a sorting system that *might* be able to handle a Scar-level end-game chest monster. And if so, it's probably sufficient for any more technically oriented server than HermitCraft. :-)
It's just a bit too big for an individual base on an SMP, so I guess I can only take some inspiration for trying to come up with a smaller scale storage system that doesn't limit itself to hopper speed at all times.
Mumbo may attempt it like he did with his ocean base lmao
Hopefully he learned his lesson
@@juliaf_ he's just using standard impulsesv sorters. Good for the server, knowing him, he'd probably lag out the server anytime hee on simply due to the complexity.
Wait I built this today in my single player world which has over 100 farms and it's absolute nuts
Yeehaw. I've been advocating in favor of your encoded approach for unloaders in ST for a while now, and I hope this storage will serve as a good example of why it's a good idea :) .
Looks great cubic, thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the video, thanks for yet another shoutout :) .
EDIT: Forgot to mention proper credit. The first item unloader wasn't done by me on my own, but I had loads of help from RussellSprout2 and Rapscallion. I just happened to do the last iteration.
Once again, I cannot thank you enough for solving the problem of 1wt first item type unloading.
Building that unloader was a fun project -- congrats on being featured!

Omg dude you are one of the sickest redstoner I've ever seen, and now you are my favourite!
This is an absolutely mind boggling amount of effort! Great job!
Cheers, even in creative mode with access to fill commands, building a main storage complex is a massive task, I would even argue that designing in creative is more work than building in survival from a schematic.
@@cubicmetre I very much agree, designing is much harder than just plain building.

damn, that's a great looking storage. think i might actually build this in my survival world. now i only need to figure out how to add chunkloading to it and it's perfect.
And make spawnchunks perimeter and built it there? Is a good way to go? Or better chunkloading?
@@bigmoixi8977 don't build things in your spawn chunks. ideally they should be empty.
Let's just appreciate that sci craft is using some of the same features of this storage for sci-craft blitz.
I clicked this video expecting to want to upgrade my storage, but this is just absurd
The parallel entity item sorter alone is a good way to start upgrading any storage system, even your bog standard impulse sorters.
i was trying to build such a storage but failed and now i want to thank you for this video.
i found a flaw. it locks the hoppers that pick up the items from the water stream too early, not giving items towards the end of the water stream enough time to be picked up, which means they'll end up in the overflow box.
Found a fix for the timing? Is it server lag related?
@@M4XD4B0ZZ doubling the number of items inside the hopper clock that locks and unlocks the item filters at the top does the trick. only using 3 stacks instead of 4 should do the trick, but i'll hook up chunk loaders to that redstone line so i want to be safe and give everything enough time.

I note you are still using the old item arrangement in your filters, where you need a larger number of items of the item being sorted because the filler items you use are stackable to 64 meaning you need that larger number of the item being filtered. If you take something like snowballs that only stack to 16, they cause a larger redstone signal to be occupied, meaning you only require a very small number [2] of your filter items along with four [4] snowballs, one in each of the rest of the hopper slots. I also typically rename the snowballs to "Filler Snowballs" so there will never be a match for any regular filtered items, including regular snowballs.
You can also put more than one of the filter item.
Genius 👏👏
that water stream separator blew my mind...
I never thought I would hear someone say “too efficient”
Bro.. that water thing is nuts lmao
In a good way!
its amazing fast and organised. and i have a challange for you: can you make a one point collector so you pull levers of items you need and then push a button or something and get 2 stacks of stackable items (if you choose it). If you want an unstackable item you get only 1 item each.
I *LOVE* how that resource pack has a little surprised face for the observer when its triggered. Its fucking adorable and I *LOVE* it.
Hi cubic! I built this in our vanilla survival world. Took about ~2 months to gather materials and make. It was quite the endeavor... Other than the obvious stuff like, not using your mods to stack shulker boxes, we needed to make a few adjustments to the design. First problem building this in survival was your double speed hopper filter. Having 5 stacks of the same item in the middle hopper is quite a task in survival worlds. So I took on the task of designs to reduce the filter item. You can simply make a new dummy item for the middle area and require a single stack... but getting 64 of something like dragon heads is also not an ideal solution either. The problem stems from the top filter hopper always being unlocked and trying to push items into the middle hopper. If the middle hopper isn't full, it'll drain your filter item creating a sorting disaster. So I changed the design a bit to wrap the same power that locks the middle hopper--around the water channel--to lock the top hopper at the same time as the middle hopper. Making this single fix reduces the total amount of items needed to setup a filter to ~4! You still need to collect every item in the game, but it is no where near as painful. Great work and design otherwise. Cheers!
Nice job! This storage should serve you and your server quite well, however be aware that if you lock the top hopper then it will not actually be able to suck items out of the water stream. The storage has two separate water streams, the one at the top is for handling bulk items and yes, this uses double speed item filters which need to have filter items in the top and bottom hoppers. The water stream underneath is for non-bulk items and these are only single hopper speed item filters. They only need 2 filter items in the top hopper to function, so I'm not sure why you would have items such as dragon heads assigned using double speed filters as these can be assigned to non-bulk and sorted at single hopper speed. Double check the video and you will notice I do cover this issue with the filter items which is the reason why I separated the bulk and non-bulk this way.
@@cubicmetre Dragon heads were a poor example haha... I was just trying to make up an example. I think beacons are would be a better example. You have those in the bulk storage location and I don't have any crazy wither farm... >_> yet. You've already interestingly enough spotted my next obvious problem. I'm just a moron. I hadn't done any of the testing on live streams, just putting the items manually into the hopper and seeing what I get. I'm not sure I can get away with a single stack of items in the 2nd hopper for the time being but I guess I'll play around and see what I can do. It's not terrible, it just means I'll be banging away at it for much longer :). Thanks for the response.
@@GravityAB You can just use a different dummy item and a stack of the item being filter in the lower hopper, the only reason I show the hopper being full of the filtered item in the video is because I am using the storage tech aid which doesn;t have an option to change the dummy items.
I've been able to forego all of this by just filling my enderchest with shulker boxes, having one misc shulker, one valuables shulker, and the other 25 for specific items. If I need more storage than that, I'll make a few manually sorted double-chests with signs/itemframes, or if i really need more storage, a simple multi-layered double-chest sorting system
More technical servers like the one I play on have multiple 1million plus drop rate an hour farms which would fill an ender chest full of items in mere minutes. Things like this are perfect for larger technical servers because we can render the chunks of the farm portal hop the items through and sort them automatically without Manual movement of over 100,000 shulker boxes full of gun powder or slime. This system would never break even for a solo player and that’s fine. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that and I’m glad your system
Is working for you!
never really though to water fill a storage system to move faster lol, really cool design

watching this for the third time cuz it's simply amazing
so i did a bit of off camera mining and set up a small sorting system
At first you would think this relatively simple to build storage system is slightly more than your needs, but it is nice to have - right?
Now I need to build a simple to build storage system which can hold the items I will gather for the next few years so I can build my relatively simple to build storage system.
Thanks man!
Yeah, when I talk about "relatively simple to build", what I mean is that the workflow for building it is consistent and doesn't require any awkward tasks, for example using 1wt features and standardising means you can build much faster. Any main storage is a complex machine to build, but minimising the amount of work involved is a good thing to consider in the design.
@@cubicmetre sure, I get it, but still it may be slightly more than I need for my single player world. Really impressive though.
A went with Tango's storage system using 8 sections which is much more than I need, though its better to have too much than too little.
Just seeing that someone has done this and made it work in single block section is amazing.
Wow this is crazy I wonder if there's a large technical server that's updating to 1.17 and needs a new main storage
Wow! I wonder if there is one that updated to 1.17 recently?

The idea With the Water is a really Good one but i think i wont or wouldnt use it bc i Dont really Like having Water in my redstone but Its a nice concept.
To the Storage slices, i am Not quite certain if they arent a bit too big but it might be Worth a shot to change it a bit.
I am kinda thinking about if i Just Do a Seperate chest hall for chest items instead of the chest item Box item slices Like here but i am Not quite certain.
In the end this Video was reaaallly useful to me and It is Well made and also entertaining so keep it up i Luv your content
I feel for best results, you need it to evolve with your playthrough, start small then expand and improve the system as needed.
I have gone through three item storages in my world. First I had a modded villager house (placed dirt on the side when I ran out of space to expand it) and no sorting. Second I had a somewhat sorted storage system underground, made to last a week or two, and It still exists 5 months later where I just made a simple autosorter. Now I see this and question the existence of the universe.
@cubicmetre Random question, I noticed you have some chest lag in the video and my SMP server has been suffering with that too. I was wondering if you have any idea what causes it? I've not noticed many people having this problem.
My best guess at the moment is that it's something to do with custom dimensions being added as we've done that on our server, have you any on yours?
Thanks for any help / info!
I will admit I don’t know what is going on but it’s cool to watch
I'm totally going to build this in my solo vanilla survival world
I'm watching a bunch of bedrock farm videos to do in my world, and got so excited when this was recommended, and then I realized... it's Java. Now I'm sad, lol. But good video, really interesting and entertaining. Didn't understand much, but really cool
There are plenty of very smart people making similar concepts to this on the Bedrock storage tech discord server, there are even variants of my designs there converted from Java to Bedrock edition.
discord.gg/RaEWYeU
I had already seen and tried it but my 6 years as a redstoner did not help me understand how complex it is, but it must be said that it is a show
Is there an easy way to connect the storage to nether portal loaders?
(Maby from the place where you drop the items? With a signal strength based timer, so that we can easily increas/reset the timer?)
So i have come up with the most versatile and easy to use storage system yet
it relies on chest overflow. items will sort into chests as normal, but once the chest gets full, it starts loading the items into shulker boxes. This ensures there is always a full chest of the item which is easy to access along with it acting like a normal storage system for items you dont really have much of.
me: I know a bit of redstone and my items are piling up from all of my massive farms and a 32 block wide quarry on my single player world. So I maybe I should build a lag efficient item storage with auto item + shulker storage. How hard it could be?
also me after 9 min into the video: I have no idea on 70% of what is being said.
Good grief your a mad scientist when it comes to storage tech
that’s insane 😳
2 bonus parameters I would like:
• Ability to interact with a small storage system of highly used items.
• A 'litter collection system' where you can through items on the floor, and have them added back into storage.
THIS IS THE STUFF
Took me until the refrain to realize that the music is a version of Tubthumping by Chumbawumba.
The urge I have to spend 2 months building this is fascinating
I like your funny words magic man.
tbh the more im learning about this system the more i feel my brain will explode
this gives me flashbacks to "rolling rocks in half an a-press"
Hey I'm a big fan of your crazy storage! One question though I'm on bedrock and none of the other sorters I've seen come close to this monster, I would like a similar video except its expendable on bedrock
p.s my single player world now has at least 1 of each item with one crazy iron farm and quad witch hut so I could potentially make it in survival
@cubicmetre hi, i have just found this gem of a vid and planning to add this to my base BUT im not sure if this works vanilla mc, or do you need carpet mod for that?
Without carpet mod the only difference is that shulker boxes will not be able to stack when they are empty, however I planned for this and implemented a massive storage silo for empty boxes to feed the storage. It will just be a bit more tedious to transport empty shulker boxes to and from the storage because you can't stack them.
I myself think of a perfect storage like the one in a lot of mod packs the ME system thing that would be amazing like infinite storage with items delivered to you without running around and stuff
My ultimate bulk is pretty close to this, it displays roughly how much of each item you have in an interface and lets you call/sort them automatically. But it's only good for handle massive amounts of items.
amazing.
Cant wait for your next book, "To Kill a Redstone Problem"
You have no idea how much jukebox storage I need
Hi legend. So, the way i play is that i make a big farm and get alot of shulkerboxes full of items (mobdrops for example) and i want to sort them in a central place. The box storage of this storage system would be perfect but i dont need the chest part of it. I can't seem to figure out where to cut the slice in half tho. Could you help me with that?
If you look on Storage Tech Archive, I posted the standalone accessible box loader slice in the chest halls section.
Nice!!!
I thought the slice had a filter already, Why is there an encoded sorter as well? Is this just to send multiple items to the slices at the same time? Other than my confusion this is super cool!
From my understanding, the encoder stacks items to release in lots of 10/30/60 for an 8 tick release rate. Encoder also unloads at higher hopper speeds and handles the shulker box inputs to unload into those stacks. When those item stack entities are sent into the storage they can be picked up as a whole stack more efficiently than sending items. Fulfilling the efficiency (reduced lag, faster sorting) and reliability requirements (no item allowed to shoot past the storage slice).
