Dale Murphy was offered an opportunity to finish his career with the Minnesota Twins (as DH) and potentially reach his milestone. For whatever reason, Murph turned down the Twins offer. That probably did it for him.
Too young to remember his first stint was the Phillies, but I remember when he came back. Saw him hit a home run at the vet that took about a half a second to get out just clearing the left-field fence. I think if it hit the fence, it would’ve gone through it.
Well the guys that played mostly in the 80s get their shot another time, this was the Classic Baseball Era vote. Andruw Jones will get his shot this January on the regular ballots along with the other more recent players.
Murph kind of blew it when he turned down an offer to play for the Minnesota Twins as DH so he could potentially reach his milestone he had sought. One team gave him a chance. However, he didn't want to play for that team.

He was one of the greatest hitters ever. He played his career almost entirely in the second Deadball Era, and he still had over a .900 OPS for his career, with multiple seasons above 1.000 during a time when that would be similar to a 1.080 or 1.100 in recent years. A well-deserved accolade for him. It’s just a shame that he is not alive to experience it. But I hope his family can have some joy that he is finally getting the recognition he has deserved.

Please remember he played in a pitching dominant era. It was something to be remarked upon if a player had twenty - five home runs in a year. Today, he'd have been a regular fifty hrs a year player.
He was ahead of Mays and Aaron on OPS plus for 14 years! Enough said. Injuries prevented a 20 year career! Best player in baseball in 72! MVP. Beat Jackson on Home Runs in 72-74. Broke his leg in 73 but was ahead of Jackson before he was injured! Highest paid player in baseball 72-74!

W3ll thats cool to see his induction in Philadelphia. There are consequences for your actions but its not like he was in prison or something. He had too short of a prime but still i think they waited too long. Now Dale Murphy is a 2 time MVP. Time to look at him longer also. That’s crazy, what was it like 50 years ago?
He hit the ball as hard as any player that ever lived. I'd have hated to face him as a pitcher
He threw a damn strike from the mound on that first pitch. That's huge. That oughta be on his plaque :).
I wish he was still here to see his time... Man payed his dues,. Rest peacefully Mr Allen....
About time the Great V. Scully would totally agree I remember him talking about Richie Allen and how great he is and was.
One of the All-Time Greats of the game.
Took way too long. Congratulations to the Allen family and may he rest in peace.
Always love hearing news about MLB.
me too

CONGRATULATIONS MR. ALLEN !!! It’s about time !!!
Long overdue for Big Richie... A true mountain of a man
Very nice tribute
Allen had a cantankerous relationship with the media, which hurt his chances of getting into Cooperstown on the traditional ballot. Glad he's in. ⚾️
Replace "cantankerous" with "correct". He understood what the media was.

When is Lou Whitaker getting in?
Loved the Sports Illustrated cover where he is smoking and juggling a baseball
Great player. These writers that vote make it personal. Non professionals
true, and despicable
Yes!!
Too bad it took this long. Next year we need to get Kenny Lofton in. His first-year vote total was a DISGRACE!
Always knew him as Richie
I think he changed his name when he went to Los Angeles
What about Dale Murphy??
