    Allen had a cantankerous relationship with the media, which hurt his chances of getting into Cooperstown on the traditional ballot. Glad he's in. ⚾️

      @@jimsnyder6310Allen’s problems went way beyond the media. He didn’t like following rules and continually got himself in trouble for leaving games early coming late for games or batting practice walking out on a team with 2 weeks to go in season

      Dale Murphy was offered an opportunity to finish his career with the Minnesota Twins (as DH) and potentially reach his milestone. For whatever reason, Murph turned down the Twins offer. That probably did it for him.

    Too young to remember his first stint was the Phillies, but I remember when he came back. Saw him hit a home run at the vet that took about a half a second to get out just clearing the left-field fence. I think if it hit the fence, it would’ve gone through it.

      Well the guys that played mostly in the 80s get their shot another time, this was the Classic Baseball Era vote. Andruw Jones will get his shot this January on the regular ballots along with the other more recent players.

      Murph kind of blew it when he turned down an offer to play for the Minnesota Twins as DH so he could potentially reach his milestone he had sought. One team gave him a chance. However, he didn't want to play for that team.

      Garvey is the most overrated player of all time. He's the same player as Daubert and Vernon and they never sniffed.
      Allen had nearly as many RBIs and far more HRs in a shorter career span. Only thing he did better than Allen was play longer

    He was one of the greatest hitters ever. He played his career almost entirely in the second Deadball Era, and he still had over a .900 OPS for his career, with multiple seasons above 1.000 during a time when that would be similar to a 1.080 or 1.100 in recent years. A well-deserved accolade for him. It’s just a shame that he is not alive to experience it. But I hope his family can have some joy that he is finally getting the recognition he has deserved.

    Anytime your slugging percentage, OPS plus and on base percentage are ahead of Mays and Aaron from 64-76, you deserve it! Today racism is defeated!
    Writers were tough on Allen and I don’t believe they should have voting privileges regarding who gets in.

      Boyer and John deserve to be in. No question. Boyer not being in might be the biggest crime out there now that Allen finally broke through

    He didn’t have the numbers to be in? I mean you can rattle off several players more deserving than him. I just don’t get it. He didn’t even have 2,000 career hits. Players like Al Oliver are so much more deserving. Cobra was well deserved but Allen was not good enough in my eyes.

      Please remember he played in a pitching dominant era. It was something to be remarked upon if a player had twenty - five home runs in a year. Today, he'd have been a regular fifty hrs a year player.

      He was ahead of Mays and Aaron on OPS plus for 14 years! Enough said. Injuries prevented a 20 year career!
      Best player in baseball in 72! MVP. Beat Jackson on Home Runs in 72-74. Broke his leg in 73 but was ahead of Jackson before he was injured!
      Highest paid player in baseball 72-74!

    W3ll thats cool to see his induction in Philadelphia. There are consequences for your actions but its not like he was in prison or something. He had too short of a prime but still i think they waited too long. Now Dale Murphy is a 2 time MVP. Time to look at him longer also. They have really blurred the lines for induction the last couple decades its so confusing. Too many writers who never played making command decisions in my opinions.
