    I love how kidnappers/murders write letters on behalf of the victim and sign off with "don't look for me," like do they really think people are going to be like, "welp, they asked us not to look, so lets just go back to what we were doing before..." So ridiculous.

      Ikr, but sometimes it delays the search, as police most of the time say victims must have run away from homes, i remember the case where the man kidnaps his own daughter in his basement for years, and makes her write that she ran away herself

      This happened with the Jemelski case. This guy kidnapped several women and had them write letters asking that the families not look for them. The police believed it, and a couple of the families did as well. All the women were released over time. Some after a few months others after years. One survivor gave the name, color, and type of vehicle, but she was off by a year, and the police accused her of lying. Years later, videotapes of the women were located, and the police had to apologize

    I feel like the first story emphasises the importance of payphones making a comeback in the states. In Hawaii, we don't have any. You might see an abandoned one on occasion, but none of them work. There are reasons to keep them around--this being one of them. Not everyone has a cell or can afford one. When a cell dies and you need help, a payphone is heaven-sent. Its shame they're gone.

      It's a cultural thing. Sometimes it's all the punishment the perps get. The killers of Junko Furuta have been out for years, despite committing arguably the worst crime in modern times, as is the cannibal murderer, Issei Sagawa. Money is often the only compensation the family will have, alongside knowing the killers will have a short sentence, particularly if their family is wealthy ( as with Issei Sagawa). It seems unthinkable to Westerners but is common practice there

      Unfortunately, the bystander effect is huge here. Both people could’ve gone to a police box (which are on nearly every other block) or called the non-emergency number to report seeing her, even if they felt she was mentally unstable or just a girl wandering and didn’t want to intervene directly. There were so many small, easy actions they could’ve taken even if they didn’t escort her to police themselves, that they chose just not to do. It doesn’t surprise me at all. “Not my problem, not my responsibility” seems to be the local slogan. I’ve seen so many people in need of help that locals flat out ignore. I always step in when I can, but the majority seem like they don’t care about others.

    This was the first time I have heard of the Satoshi case. Just horrible! Even more horrible how their society viewed the case and didn't label it as hate crime. I lived in Qatar and Tunisia. There is a stigma in those countries when it comes to the disables. I lived in Tunisia 2 years and only saw two people with disabilities. One was a woman with Down Syndrome the other was a child with a form of severe autism. I asked the locals and they admitted that people with disabilities are kept home. It mad me so sad

      @wcrimeusa 2 месяца назад +2

      It's truly distressing how societal attitudes can contribute to the marginalization and mistreatment of people with disabilities. Cases like Satoshi's highlight the urgent need for greater awareness and acceptance of individuals with disabilities worldwide. Your experiences in Qatar and Tunisia shed light on the challenges faced by disabled individuals in different cultures, and it's heartbreaking to hear that they're often marginalized or hidden away. We must work towards creating more inclusive societies where everyone is valued and respected regardless of their abilities.

      statistically the chances of getting murdered in japan is low but it’s not 0. if you’re a woman getting stalked is a big worry.

    • @ashc9725
      @ashc9725 2 месяца назад +12

      That really depends on how you're comparing safety. For example, a very quick Google search says in 2020, Japan's intentional homicide rate was 0.28 cases per 100,000 population. In comparison, the US intentional homicide rate in 2020 was approximately 6.5 cases per 100,000 population. Japan's crime rate was 13.5% lower in 2020 than it was in 2010.

    As someone who is medically disabled, this really hit me hard. I know disabled people are not always treated fairly in my own country at times-especially when they have “invisible” illnesses as I do-but I’d say that the majority of people here accept disabled people much more commonly than was described in the cases in this video. My heart goes out to those in the disabled community in Japan. I hope that one day they can be accepted just as they are.

    Have four children all ASD, this case angers the hell out of me! Why didn't you take the time to understand your son, autism and try to help him with his struggles. As a parent our children should be the most important people in the world to us and helping them to grow into happy adults should be our goal. I don't understand how anyone can violently kill their own child, let alone plan it. And six years is not enough

    • @delsingray5923

      Societal privilege. I mean, they still call it ASD when it isn't a disorder, but a difference. Even the video was careless in the first case just casually mentioning it (even if it was true).
      I'm happy reading you care about your 4 autistic kids and that support and understanding them is important. The world needs more people like you

      Per capita Japan is actually rather safe. When they’re put together it seems to be a lot but put it against another country and it is safe, no where is without risk though. Japan is very conservative although they do report on crimes unlike China for example who do not. ❤

    • @spongegar7588
      @spongegar7588 2 месяца назад +12

      Tbh for me Japan is a little scary because of the sheer depravity of the crimes. Like it’s not people just getting shot or stabbed, it’s brutal kidnapping, r@pe, torture.
      Crime doesn’t happen often there but when it does they go above and beyond to be the worst of humanity, and barely get any punishment. Junko Furuta is one of the most disgusting cases of modern day, and her killers are out and about enjoying life. That’s what is scary about Japan.

      There might be some reasons to be a little suspicious of the numbers, but it wouldn't significantly alter the crime rate. It is asotundingly safe, objectively, and similarly depraved crimes happen in other places with far greater frequency
