I went 12.5” due to availability when purchasing. Got myself a Geissele 12.5” on a adm4 receiver set and cross machine tool 11.5” rail. With my ocl polonium k and a superlative arms adjustable gas block…it’s a very capable and comfortable weapon. Easy in a vehicle, house, and obviously out in the open. Have only gone out to 100yds so far…and even at that distance, I can’t see what the target is doing by naked eye. Just built a 12.5" Triarc mid-length barrel with a Superlative Arms Piston Kit and a Specter Cat WB 718 supressor. It is lights-out accurate, zero gas, and the quietest can on the market next to the PTR Vent 3.
I want to build out a 12.5 mid Triarc barrel I have but I’m worried it might suck because of the stories I’ve heard over the last couple of years about Triarc and my experience with their CS has been less than desirable (no answer). I also don’t know what handguard I want to put on it. You think it will be solid like yours? I want it to shoot soft as fuck and shoot sub moa at 100 all day. When did you get the barrel?
After buying a lot of different 556 rifles and different barrel lengths I really like a bipodded 20" with a 2-10/12 and 16" GPR with a RDS/magnifier or 1-6 LPVO and either a 11.5" or 12.5" with just a red dot or holographic. You really don't need all 3 but it's definitely nice to have. ADM Radian PWS LWRC Blackout Defense Daniel Defense And Geissele have been my favorites. Criterion barreled homebuilds have been pretty solid too. I kept them all because I hate money.
My ‘Go To’ rifle is my PWS MK111 .223 Wylde piston rifle with a OCL Polonium direct threaded on the muzzle. 11.85” barrel and piston driven. Shoots lights out and runs super smooth with zero gas to the face. All the rifle I would need if I was only allowed to have 1 rifle.. thankfully that’s not the case and I have lots of rifles for different applications..
@N-A762 they are solid. Hard to beat especially if you get it on sale and since it comes with the buffer, spring, charging handle, and bcg, you can throw it on an lower and rock!
13.7 with the right MD over a 14.5 but really we’re splitting hairs at that point . Personally I want my .556 WITH a suppressor on it to be as close to 18 in as possible. That’s giving it the best MV at a short enough length to still have decent maneuvering. Ammo selection is also HUGE .
Yep I have an 11.5 super duty and it’s my favorite gun by far. Exps3-2 with g45 unity setup. Can go to 500 easily with it but also run nods really comfortably
I picked up a solgw m-76 11.5” upper from primary arms on sale for like $350. Then got their bcg and BCM mk2 charging handle for about $240 total. Can’t imagine a much better upper for roughly $600! I’ve got my polonium k direct thread on it right now and it’s the perfect little set up on top of my Griffin MK2 lower
@@N-A762 thank ya! Got lucky when PA already had it on sale on top of them doing a 13% site wide discount. Was in the process of saving for either spear lt upper or geissele upper but couldn’t pass up that price
I agree 100% But something to think about, if you’re going to get into longer range stuff with a 308/6.5 or especially magnums. Buying a 556 18” and putting good glass on there, learning to skills to shoot a 1/2 sized silhouette to 600 yards or full sized to 800-1000 yards will teach you a lot of the skills you need for those other guns, but will do it a lot cheaper in ammo prices
@3:30 For making hits on target, yes barrel length doesn't make a huge difference. The issue is 5.56 loses its magic power with velocity loss, significantly decreasing lethality. First, it loses its ability to fragment around 2700fps, then it won't even tumble lower than 2500fps, and cavitational expansion is lost at 2200 fps (all numbers may vary with ammo). So while you can hit 200+ yards with a short barrel, every feet per second lost over distance will eventually destroy your explosive performance that 5.56 is known for. Terminal ballistics is almost everything for 5.56, not just something to brush off.
This conversation will never end. There's definitely no do it all rifle for civilians. 1 gun and 2 uppers is always the answer. If ammo in any caliber were plentiful and not cost prohibitive, a 9" 300blk and 16" to 20" 6mm arc would be the 2, but in today's use case that 11.5" 556 and a 18" to 20" 77g 556 are the 2.
I replaced the 10.3" barrel in my Mk18 with an 11.5" barrel, mostly so I could fit the Riflespeed adjustable gas block. Since the 10.3" is super gassy, I wanted to mitigate that with an AGB... but the Riflespeed wouldn't fit between the gas port and the muzzle device. After replacing the barrel, I must say that I *love* the 11.5" configuration! I won't necessarily say I like it better than my 14.5" M4A1, but I *will* say I like it just as much. Definitely a better length than 10.3".
The 11.5 is a very handle little gun, I think it is a good trade off but I disagree with the 500yd thing. Most people are going to put a dot on it and rarely will they use good 75/77gr or have the skill. 0-200/250 is more realistic on a vital size like c zone size or smaller.
I have 2 11.5s from Geissele, both super duty’s. One for me and one for the wife. They’re amazing. I have PSA and BCMs too. But Geissele is the one and done.
I’ve almost finished my PWS MK111 and MK114 Mod 2m’s. Cant wait to run them both. I SBR’d the 111 (11.85” barrel). Just need suppressor. It’ll be going to some rifle classes. I’m with ya on quality over quantity on number of firearms. I don’t need 20 cheap ARs, pistols, shotguns, etc.
11.5" 5.56 lpvo, 16" 6 arc 4-16x, 20" 6.5 creed 5-25x, 24" 7 prc 7-35x, Shadow systems dr920 open carry, shadow systems cr920x concealed. All the capability you could ever want.
Real Talk: Bullpup supremacy Makes this discussion irrelevant since my AUG is as short as a 10.3 and still has a 16in barrel. Being real though I still love my 11.5 AR because it's just fun.
I run a PWS MK111 Mod 2 it’s an 11.8 inch barrel. I think it’s great at doing anything inside 500 yards. After that my 18 inch can handle it. Great video and cutting a DD barrel to an 11.5 is genius sir!
I agree,if you can only afford one rifle or desire just one. And home defense is the primary reason than11.5" is an excellent choice. I really have a thing for SBRs in 12.5"-14." For a GPR my go to is the much maligned 16."
In CA it's hard to just pick up an 11.5, that would be cool, but not practical in strict states. A13.9"-14.5" we can getaway with a pin & weld if we can't get a manufacturered pistol
I run a 14.5 socom profile as my main squeeze and have a 10.5 socom profile as a cqbr solution. This was before the urgi shorty was created, I had already built out a 10.5 with a geissele mk8 rail and have had really solid results. I have wanted to see what the fuss was about with the 11.5 and this video has me thinking about rebarreling the 10.5 I built out
Love my March FX 1.5-15 dfp. Pairs really well with my LMT quick change barrel. Going from a 7.5" 350 to 12.5" 556 to 12.5" 6arc, I can PID further than I'd ever shoot. 500 yards makes everything look 33 yards "at 1x". Also my KAK downward venting BCG arrived yesterday, so I'm looking forward to testing it.
If you watch any of the suppressor testing videos from Griffin they consistently get better suppression out of 10.3"-11.5" barrels over 16+ barrels. Its weird, but thats a nice benefit.
It’s not weird it’s science. It’s because of velocity. 5.56 is not a subsonic round. So, with it traveling a little slower there is going to be a little less sound (crack) coming out from it.
If anyone is interested in his idea to make the gas port smaller for softer shooting, buying a EZ tune gas tube can do relatively the same thing. He was already cutting the barrel so it was easier for him to go the way he did but the EZ rune is just a 60 dollar custom made gas tube. They take into account what ammo you use, what buffer system you have, what barrel you have. They are pretty neat
11½" is pretty sweet for CQB out to 250 yards. I have a XM-177E2 and a M-4 SOPMOD BLOCK2 with 11½" barrel's. It has it's strengths and weaknesses. 250 yard Anti-Personnel bubble and it's pretty good at it.
My goto guns are a 10.5 LMT and a 10.5 custom from Adcofirearms with extended gas system. I have more rounds through them than any of my other ARs, and they have been outstanding.
I wasn’t sold on the KAK Down Vent BCG either. I tested it against the Bootleg ADJ BCG and fount the Bootleg created a more pleasurable shooting experience. The KAK is now in a box of spare parts.
I still think 14.5 is best for newer people and esp if they are not planning on getting muffler. I mean ur 10 or 11.5 is basically a 14.5 with a silencer. So if u dont plan on getting on nothing wrong with the more velocity and less concusion in my opinion.
I switched out my Eotech and G45 on my 11.5 and replaced it with the PA PLXC Nova. Looks cool, haven’t shot it yet though. Thanks man, most people say 11.5 is too short for a lpvo.
The quieter it got with the small gas port is actually simple and real, and why AGB are good options alotbof the time With less gas going back, you get less noise, you had a smaller gas port, you get less noise, with a full sized can a lot of the noise to the shooters ear is at the action and gasses coming out of the action
My top choice of all my AR15 types, is my PWS MK111 with SiCo Omega. IT RUNS. Good quality medium contour nitride 4150 barrel, mid gas length adjustable gas piston keep crud out and Lube Last Longer. Much better velocity and accuracy than my 7.5" and almost the same velocity as my 14.5" Recoil is a little slower and rolls compared to my DI guns. And with the Magpul brace, no stamp needed. Lighter, and Better trigger and reloading speed over my VHS-2 I'm with you on 11.5 barreled AR15!
Looking at chopping my 14.5 DD Socom down to an 11.5 or 12, not sure which. It depends on the length of the RIS II handguard I have and how it interacts with my Tion Suppressor. Good video, good food for thought.
For the algorithm since I went with the 10.5” instead of 11.5” and I have no intention of buying another upper in 11.5” cuz I’m poor 😅 Should’ve could’ve would’ve 🤷🏻♂️
Any time some silly goose goes on about 556 in a 10-11" gun, just ask them if the barrel length changes their mind of wanting to stand in front of it at 200m. The answer is always, "Well of course I wouldn't want to!" Cool so then we're all in agreement.
Bruh, I’ve subbed to your channel about 3 times now and yet whenever i hop in here to watch a new video it’s like it never happened. YT is ridiculous with that
I think we are splitting hairs with barrel lengths for 556 tbh. I think you are right, that if you could only have 3 guns - pistol + AR, + 30 cal gas gun is the answer. But any AR between 10.5-14.5 is fine imo. Personally, I also chose 11.5 and I have mine set up fairly similar to yours, but if someone went 10.5 or 12.5 or 13.7 at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.
I have the same G upper on a griffin MK2 lower with the griffin Gp5 pinned and chrome cryptic bcg and a rubber city armory adjustable gas key. Runs smooth and holds 1 moa with sierra 77g and 1.65 moa with 62g @100yards. So yeah man the 11.5 is king with a can. I run an lpvo Steiner T4xi, the glass is badass and you can push distance if you have good glass, way more than a magnifier will do
I had a URGI from Geissele. SOLD IT. Geissele has a nice trigger but otherwise their are no real advancements on the AR15 platform that warrants the price. Similarly, FN AR15 products have a nice barrel but they are overpriced for an AR15 that offers no real platform advancements. GEISSELE SELLS MID-TIER PRODUCT AT TOP-TIER PRICES.
11.5 is an extremely versatile barrel length but 14.5 is the best length for a "do it all" gun. For somebody buying their first gun it should be 14.5. Manageable length with a can for vehicles/buildings, and good ballistics for out to 5-600yds easy. Easier than 11.5 ill say. Also no NFA shit you have to worry about for your first gun if you go 14.5. MY 11.5 is build for NV but i know that from 0-300yds its essentially point and shoot, only one hold for 300. Any farther I'm not shooting because i don't run a magnifier.
I totally get what he's saying in the video. My magic number is 12.5" patrol gas Rosco, just finished. I'm gonna be building another 12.5" carbine gas Criterion next. Most likely outside of the range the use is for the home defense. The Russia, China global issues flying spy balloons and war ships in the Caribbean... That extra inch for bullet speed could be useful if an USA enemy puts boots on our soil.
If you claim to have zero bias, you are a liar. If you are a human then bias exists, weather it’s positive or negative. I still work hard to objectively evaluate product and give my honest feedback. I’m not going to beg you to stay subbed, if you can’t see that I’m as authentic as it gets for a reviewer then go be deceived by someone who tells you they have zErO bias🤷🏽♂️
Isn't this a double tax stamp? It's freakin lovely but an expensive build. I have a10.5 I'm building and considering barrel and bcg change now. Great video
question... why you chose a g45 magnifier on a 11.5? i have a g43 on my spear lt.. what's the benefit ? and do you find it more practical over the g43.
Agreed. After chrono-ing a PRI 18", 16", Noveske 13.7", and a BCM 11.5", the MV loss dropping down to the 11.5" is negligible with proper bullet selection for 90% of case-use applications. What you gain with a longer barrel length is better gassing for quick follow-up shots and better wind performance past 400 yds which is something to consider for an SPR build, but for a GPR centered build, at least where Im at in the city, the handiness of a suppressed 11.5" with a K-can is worth the loss of the benefits of having a longer barrel and with proper optic selection there's no issue punching out to 500 yds with the 11.5". Beyond that I'd rather switch over to my 6.5 PRC bolt as a secondary.

The quieter it got with the small gas port is actually simple and real, and why AGB are good options alotbof the time
With less gas going back, you get less noise, you had a smaller gas port, you get less noise, with a full sized can a lot of the noise to the shooters ear is at the action and gasses coming out of the action
11.5in super duty, rc2, Eotech and magnifier is an amazing setup. Love mine to death. Load it up with 77gr OTM and it’s no joke out to 4-500
My exact setup too. And ammo lol.
@@lgdurocher you sir, are a man of fine tastes
Great vid i currently own a 11.5 and i love it!
My top choice of all my AR15 types, is my PWS MK111 with SiCo Omega.
IT RUNS.
Good quality medium contour nitride 4150 barrel, mid gas length adjustable gas piston keep crud out and Lube Last Longer.
Much better velocity and accuracy than my 7.5" and almost the same velocity as my 14.5"
Recoil is a little slower and rolls compared to my DI guns.
And with the Magpul brace, no stamp needed.
Lighter, and Better trigger and reloading speed over my VHS-2
I'm with you on 11.5 barreled AR15!
Great breakdown on the whole rifle
A good do it all rifle would be a 14.5” 6mm arc
No way would I feel confident enough with that hot mess on the muzzle… NO WAY!
I have an 11.5 commando and it's my favorite but it's 300 yds max for effectiveness and that's with 75/77 gr projectiles. Sweet upper by the way.
Looking at chopping my 14.5 DD Socom down to an 11.5 or 12, not sure which. It depends on the length of the RIS II handguard I have and how it interacts with my Tion Suppressor. Good video, good food for thought.
Genesis Arms 12 AR 12 Ga shotgun, veterans, Idaho, Anerican made, best AR shotgun.
For the algorithm since I went with the 10.5” instead of 11.5” and I have no intention of buying another upper in 11.5” cuz I’m poor 😅
Should’ve could’ve would’ve 🤷🏻♂️
I’m a 12.5 in guy myself primarily because with a suppressor it gets me to that 18 in mark or a hair past it
The Geissele DDC buffer tube would look sick on there
Giessele 14.5 hear
Thanks for Sharing 🇺🇸
Great work.
I got a blem from Geissele and there was a big ol dent in the rail. haha.
Any time some silly goose goes on about 556 in a 10-11" gun, just ask them if the barrel length changes their mind of wanting to stand in front of it at 200m. The answer is always, "Well of course I wouldn't want to!" Cool so then we're all in agreement.
would you stand in front of an air rifle?
@@Ravensbreak lol nope
I'd rather be shot at with an 11' than a 16 or 20 incher.
Absolutely love my DD Ris III 11.5” on a Radian ADAC lower. Badass lil MFer
11.5s rock.
My main squeeze is a 11.5” SBR. Pretty much the same setup as yours.
Thank you for a great video and giving glory to God!
Toss a 2-10 with an RMR top dot on top.
I agree with you on 11.5, but do you think its lets say smart on having multiple 11.5 builds vs more variable systems ie 16’,14.5 etc
That's as good optic setup you got there. Lpvo is cool at first but the eye relief shadow is a killer for me.
I run an lpvo Steiner T4xi, the glass is badass and you can push distance if you have good glass, way more than a magnifier will do
If I were to start over and if I could only pick one 5.56 rifle, I would opt for a 12.5" barrel.
BIIIIIG fan of the 11.5 in general
I had a URGI from Geissele. SOLD IT. Geissele has a nice trigger but otherwise their are no real advancements on the AR15 platform that warrants the price. Similarly, FN AR15 products have a nice barrel but they are overpriced for an AR15 that offers no real platform advancements. GEISSELE SELLS MID-TIER PRODUCT AT TOP-TIER PRICES.
11.5 is the way 🎯🎯🎯
12.5 supremacy…. Only because I was shopping for a 11.5 and noticed BCM had a great sale 😅
My BCM BFH 11.5 agrees!!! 😂
I just ordered an 11.5 conversion kit for my MDRX 😊
Sick I want a micron kit myself there so cool
12.5" 6.5G is all you need!
Good stuff
That is a beautiful build bro!
Bruh…I get winded when I tie my shoes…DMR from the corner booth at BWW
XM177 master race
11.5 is an extremely versatile barrel length but 14.5 is the best length for a "do it all" gun. For somebody buying their first gun it should be 14.5. Manageable length with a can for vehicles/buildings, and good ballistics for out to 5-600yds easy. Easier than 11.5 ill say. Also no NFA shit you have to worry about for your first gun if you go 14.5. MY 11.5 is build for NV but i know that from 0-300yds its essentially point and shoot, only one hold for 300. Any farther I'm not shooting because i don't run a magnifier.
2 words Terminal Performance
I feel the 8.5in .300BLK is top tier once you get your AR tuned
velocity is critical for 5.56 FMJ, but for otm or some sort of tipped bullet, its not as dependent on high velocity
Soon as you said "it's gone be a lil Biased" I unscribed
You've became JUST LIKE ALL OTHER SPONSORED GUNTUBERS
If you claim to have zero bias, you are a liar. If you are a human then bias exists, weather it’s positive or negative. I still work hard to objectively evaluate product and give my honest feedback. I’m not going to beg you to stay subbed, if you can’t see that I’m as authentic as it gets for a reviewer then go be deceived by someone who tells you they have zErO bias🤷🏽♂️
I have Mk12 ModH for long range and seems like a good do it all gun imo I also have a 14.5 Super Duty and a Mk18
Would 11.5” still be the best if you live behind enemy lines and can’t have a silencer?
12.5" is the master race
Preach, brother!
11.5 supremacy
SOLGW 11.5” with Eotech and a Aimpoint 3X magnifier - I live in IL so no suppressors for us…
what you can do is have one lower and two different uppers one for close up work and one set up for longer range. its ust 2 pins you have to pop.
Comment for the algorithm!! Criterion core 11.5 for the win!
Isn't this a double tax stamp? It's freakin lovely but an expensive build. I have a10.5 I'm building and considering barrel and bcg change now. Great video
I've actually been looking at a couple 11.5 lately, curious what's your opinion on pistol/carbine/mid length gas system vs a long stroke system pws
question... why you chose a g45 magnifier on a 11.5? i have a g43 on my spear lt.. what's the benefit ? and do you find it more practical over the g43.
only issue with the 11.5 is taking it across state lines
What brand, type, grain of 5.56 do you use for overall accuracy and duty use for your 11.5 that you stock up on and trust your life with?
