Hey. I have watched loads of TT tutorials the last weeks. I think your explanation is outstanding, because you seem to reduce to necessary info. Many others are overwhelming. Thank you and please keep going.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback. When editing I end up cutting out a good 2-3 minutes of content because I keep asking “Does the target audience for this video REALLY need to know about XYZ thing?”. I want to avoid overloading with info, and it’s great to hear you noticed 😄
Thank you for the topspin serve as I have been hitting fast thro the ball, I never thought of dragging the bat up the back of the ball to add topspin. Keep the tips coming they are explained thoroughly.
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! I’m just about recovered from some bad Tennis Elbow (stuff hurts!) and then I’ll get back to filming 👍
Or you could update this video as well as its very fundamental. Plus a close up handdrawn picture of the point of contact and the direction of the racket while doing so. As of now, I understood zilch
Glad to hear the videos appeal to a wider skill range so far 👍 I’m starting my channel with the Basics, but will slowly be getting into more advanced topics (match tactics, proper forehand form, footwork, how to read/anticipate opponent, and more).
the reason i am asking is if i did a pendulum top to my usual opponents, they will attack it for sure. I usually do side /top or side /under with a lot of side spin to keep them from attacking so easily.
Sure! I live in Idaho…which has VERY little options for table tennis and have never had the chance to get ranked here (working on plans to make it happen!). We do have a local Club that meets twice a week though and there are always some good players going coming and going from it. I was consistently playing every week for 5-6 years between 2014 and 2019. Traveled to some clubs/local tournaments in Washington, Utah, and also got to play at a club in St Louis. Then since 2019 my wife and I started having kids and for the last 3-4 years and I haven’t been able to play as often. When this year started I decided I would get into great shape again, and then start this RUclips channel to motivate me to go to the club again. I’m now going to the club once a week to train, and also using my Amicus Advance Robot at home 2 nights a week (love that thing!), and then working on the RUclips videos the other days. I plan on making a video someday to explain all this. I hope all that helped answer your question. And as far as putting Side Spin on your pendulum serve variations…I think that’s a great way to go about it. I mainly didn’t wanna teach people a side spin serve in this Beginner video though, as I think learning to handle side spin (and knowing how to handle it when a player returns a side spin serve back to you) is hard for a Beginner to grasp as one of their first serves to learn. I will totally be doing more serve videos later and will talk side top/side back 👍 Glad to have you watching the channel!
The pinch is critical, many players grip the paddle too tightly, which creates less control and spin. The only problem with the first 2 serves is that they are easy to read, but do present the main points of the serves. It is much more difficult to read side top from side under, when the server's strokes goes parallel to the baseline, and the change up is a result of where to contact the ball, early or late. A tutorial on that type would be nice.
You mean like…switching from “Pinch Grip” back to your main grip after making the serve? It’s really a quick transition. The hard part at first is just remembering to do it immediately after serving so you’re not holding the racket wrong when they return the ball, lol. It happened to me.
Another fantastic video. Must admit I only ever use pendulem for side spin so the top spin version was great to see. I wonder if some some-mo may be good in future vids? Keep up the awesome content!
FH: DHS Hurricane III BH: Stiga Mantra Blade: Nitakku Acoustic Offensive It’s going to depend on your playstyle, what you’re willing to experiment with, and your budget. My only recommendation would be to avoid the “super fast” setups so you can develop good movements and control/ball placement first before upping the speed. I went to fast at first, and the moment I switched back to a “slower/more control” racket, my gameplay started improving again.
Yep, you’re absolutely right 👍 My thought was Side Spin is more confusing for beginners on how to handle/return it, so opted to wait for another video to talk about that serve.
One of the best parts of a great serve is having it be “deceptive”. You don’t want your opponent to easily know exactly what direction of spin, or how much spin, is on the ball. So we want as much of the service motion to look the same as other serves we might do up until the last moment when we hit the ball. That said, you very well could do top spin like it’s a forehand hit…but I would only suggest it if you have one or two other serves you can also do using that same motion to keep your opponent guessing/paying attention 👍
Would be good if you showed a legal serve, you are throwing the ball from your fingers, the rule is the ball is to start from resting on the palm see ittf rule 2.6.1, other wise nice tutorial.
Hey, thanks for the feedback and the view. I’m aware of the rule and teach it to people, but I didn’t want to spend time explaining Legal Rules in this video. I rewatched the video and I do look to be resting the ball closer to my fingers like you said. I’ll keep an eye on it and adjust next time at the Club. Thanks again!
Was watching high lights of the recent France Championships, and noticed Fan Zhendongs palm/ball when serving. He's definitely resting it closer to his fingers. Never got called once for it during the match, and I assume he's been serving that way a long time. Not saying he shouldn't adjust his placement...but it does seems like there is flexibility allowed with that rule as long as it doesn't appear that you're abusing it in some way. It's think it's mainly there to prevent people from literally holding the ball with their fingers. Again, just wanted to share since we were just talking about this. ruclips.net/video/REcM1sYj_fI/видео.html
Hah, most definitely not! I don’t even have a Twitter (X) account… But now you got me curious, what is the account name that you think I am? I wanna go look 😂
that grip is all fun and games until your opponent hits it back at 60 miles per hour and you now have to switch back to your normal grip as the ball already wen by you.
I get how it could seem that way, for sure. But after doing it a few times, the transition between the two grips is VERY fast. Basically not noticeable. If you wanna see it in action, find some Pro’s videos playing and watch them do their serves. Many use it. Some serves (like Tomahawk) don’t use Pinch Grip, too. So just depends on the serve 👍
Teaches 3 serves in 4 minutes, glad these kind of videos are making their way back into the world, clear, concise, and comprehensive. Thank you
Glad you like it 👍 Thanks!

This is the best table tennis serve tutorial! Straight and clear! Great work, thank you bro
Hah, well thank you kindly 👍 Hope it helps ya!
Crystal clear explanation i have seen in months! Just Wow❤ Love from Poland!
Awesome! Thanks for watching 👍
I love you tutorials !! Subscribed!! Can’t wait for More tutorials video !!!
Thanks for subbing!
Your videos are so clear and straightforward. This is exactly how I want to learn. Please keep making more!
Thank you! Will do!

@@PingPongPowerhouse funny that as I won quite a few points this morning using that serve 😀
Finally I found the right channel, which I was searching for a long time🥰🥰
Glad to have you watching! 👍
Simple but fantastic explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Aint complicated, thanks for simplifying ❤
You’re welcome! There is more detail to the shot, but hope this gets you started off well for a while!
Just came across this channel, direct to the point. Very informative. Content that we need (especially the exercises needed). Thank you 🎉
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! I’m just about recovered from some bad Tennis Elbow (stuff hurts!) and then I’ll get back to filming 👍
Very well explained..thanks
Thanks, and glad you enjoyed it 👍
I like your explanation to serve. I am waiting the explaination of returning serve. Thank you.
Awesome, thanks for watching! Serve returns are tough, and I want to do a video on it someday 👍
Nice video. Thanks a lot for this. A slowmo would be fine where to see the movement and the hitting point of the ball a little better. ;-)
Absolutely! I had it in my video plan and completely spaced it when editing… Future videos for sure, lol. Thanks for watching!

Great ideas, thanks. Can’t update this video without re-uploading, but will be trying to improve my video presentation as I make more videos.
Great video for beginners! Are you planning to do some more advanced stuff, too?
Thanks! Yes, I will! Just trying to get a solid list of “starting places” videos for folks first 👍
@@PingPongPowerhouse Perfect! And subscribed... :-)
great videoss. and i am a pretty good player. going back to basic basic basic always helps.

@@PingPongPowerhouse Greg, can you tell us a bit of your table tennis background. Rating, tournaments, etc.
Also, can you do a video on side/top serve as well

Slow mo. As in slow motion sorry!

Can you please tell me your racket model name (which model of butterfly) as well please suggest a good racket for advance player not for beginners

Also make sure you tap the ball to the table each time before you serve otherwise you will miss
😂 Just a habit I picked up and never think about anymore.
there's also the sidespin pendulum

watching for pe exam on Tuesday
😂 They won’t know what hit them.
How about the reverse pendulum?
It’s a fun serve for sure. And I like how effective it can be when you’re good at disguising the spin. Would love to talk about it in a future video 👍
Well, I'll be honest
You look more like Alan Walker than Alan Walker himself😅
HAH, really…. Well, I think I look a little “Faded” compared to him 😏

Why is the top spin serve so confusing. Can't you just swing the bat across the top of the ball like normal forehand
